SPECULATION Anakin's Brother

    The new Star Wars comic said Luke was raised by his uncle. No brother or other kids were ever shown when we met Anakin in Phantom Menace or when he found out his mom was dead in Attack of the Clones. Does anybody know anything about this uncle of Luke's?

    Also, I was just thinking. Do we know who Anakin's father was? Could he be some awesome Jedi or something? Could it be Palpatine? I don't remember any mention of a father in Phantom Menace. I always thought it was implied Anakin was born of immaculate conception or something. Anybody know anything about this?

    It's Luke's Uncle Owen Lars. Owen Lars is Anakin's half brother. This can be seen in AotC.

    Anakin was conceived by Shimi Skywalker through the force, immaculate conception. This is explained in TPM.

    Are you just getting into Star Wars for the 1st time?

    Anakin's mother married after he left for the Jedi academy.. Owen was her step-son, and Anakin's step-brother

    This IS a change from the original canon... in the novelization, Owen was Kenobi's brother

    "Your mother and I knew he would find out eventually, but we wanted to keep you both as safe as possible, for as long as possible. So I took you to live with my brother Owen, on Tatooine..."

    It does tend to get a little muddy... but AotC and RotS pretty clearly show Anakin meeting his step-brother, Owen (along with his girlfriend Beru), at the Lars family home, and young Luke being taken to them to go into hiding

    Like I said, it gets a little muddy with Lucas changing his mind from the original direction indicated from the novelization

    EDIT: I actually just wrote to James Kahn, who wrote the novel for RotJ... we connected a while back rather by chance, and since this has kinda bothered me for a while, I figured what the hell, I would ask him

    Shmi had sex with Yoda. It all fits together with Yoda not appointing Ani to the council and sumo making up a story for Qui Gon.

    No... not even a little. And were that true, you, who are Anakin's dad, would be Yoda... which I also don't see...

    Got a response from Kahn earlier today:

    I think it's fantastic that Lucas allowed the author to inject such a canonical item like that, and more surprised that it got discarded later

    I guess Lucas was going more for a Christ parallel to some extent in the prequels because Jesus had a brother. And, it doesn't work so well for Obi to have a brother on Tatooine story wise.

    The only Christlike reference would be the immaculate conception... I don't think anyone can accuse Anakin of being meek... Lars being Obi Wan's brother could have entirely worked if they had written it that way... I honestly think it would have made more sense than Luke being hidden with his real uncle...

    The immaculate conception is a pretty big similarity. He's the chosen one. The council is sort of like the pharases (SIC) who don't really accept him as the one. Unlike Jesus, who resisted Satan during His 40 days being tempted in the wilderness, Anakin gives in to Palpatine (Satan).

    That's probably a fair analogy, although I don't think George was trying to make Anakin into Jesus. As he correctly put it at the time, there is a lot of mythology out there that involves immaculate conception, so to speak.

    At any rate, Owen was his step-brother. So he was a true uncle to Luke.
