The director of photography for the Disney Plus Star Wars series Andor has stated the series was originally set to have five seasons, but plans have changed and the full story is planned to be told in three.

According to Adriano Goldman, the director of photography on the Rogue One prequel series, Andor was, at least at one point, set for five-seasons, but according to him, plans have changed. The direct quote, translated to English, is as follows:

Here's a video of Goldman revealing this tidbit in Portuguese on a Brazilian television program:

It's possible the series will ultimately have the same total number of episodes that they initially planned - since the norm for a live-action Disney Plus show to this point has ranged from six to eight episodes per season, and the first season of Andor reportedly checks in at twelve episodes. It is also possible the creative team realized they didn't need as much time as initially thought, to tell the story they want to tell. Either way, it sounds like Lucasfilm is confident enough in this series if they are willing to stake out a future for the project, which has a second season already in development.

So far, only that second season of Andor has been greenlit, as far as the public knows.  Andor is said to resume filming this Fall for its second season, which should be around (or shortly after) the same time the first season airs. Hopefully, Star Wars Celebration will provide some clarity on the future of this series and other projects in the pipeline.

Andor follows Rebel Alliance intelligence operative Cassian Andor (played by Diego Luna) in the years leading up to Rogue One. Aside from Luna, Star Wars alumni confirmed to return include Genevieve O'Reilly as Mon Mothma and Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera, with new cast members including Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Fiona Shaw, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Robert Emms, and David Hayman. Alan Tudyk, who played Cassian's plucky droid sidekick K-2SO, has indicated that he is not in the first season, but will be appearing in the second.

The first season of Andor is currently slated to air in the second half of 2022 on Disney Plus. We will find out in a little over a month whether fans will get their first glimpse of the series at Star Wars Celebration, which takes place May 26-29. For fans not attending the event, any potential trailer released for the series at the event would immediately hit the internet following its debut.

My burning questions is: Why is this series scheduled for 12 episodes? and my beloved OWK series and TBOBF has only 6/7?
