By the way, Andy has portrayed non-motion capture characters in movies before.

True he has played non-mo cap characters.

 

I really want Serkis to be Plagueis...I mean just given the seeming focus on the nature of the Force-and its 'awakening'-I believe it'd be interesting to explore a character with such total control over it. A character with control over life and death. He can also function as the through-line from Prequel Trilogy to Sequel Trilogy.

 

When I think of Serkis, I think of his performances as Martin Hannett in 24-Hour Party People, or Ian Dury in Sex & Drugs & Rock and Roll before anything else. I think the man behind the pixels is probably slightly better known here in the UK...

 

Indeed. He will also play Ulysses Klaw in Avengers: Age of Ultron, a character who doesn't need to be motion captured.

 

Wow, imagine him with that voice from the trailer.. Pretty scary actually.

Not getting my hopes up though, i'm wondering if they're going to change the look of Plagueis if he does appear :/

By that logic then why use old characters like Luke, Leia,Han and the rest in the first place? The new fans won't know who they are either except through this first movie. The OT characters are not the focus at all. The new characters will be. The OT ones will be in the mentor roles as the PT ones were in the OT. Plagueis would be as new and real as Luke to the new people watching TFA.

It's Episode VII so it has to ultimately tie into the whole saga. The core of which is going to be Jedi vs Sith. I-VI was ultimately about the protagonist Anakin Skywalker and the antagonist Darth Sidious. Anakin was overcome went to the Dark Side and it was only through his son that he returned to the Light Side and overcame the true enemy.

So that Sidious' mentor returns as the main antagonist against the son of Skywalker who inherited being the main protagonist only makes sense and then their apprentices will inherit that from them and that will be the story of the ST. This makes story sense on all kinds of levels.

The canon isn't nebulous at all. The movies, TV series, books and comics are defining it right now.

 

It's pretty hard to find a teenager who doesn't know who Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, C3P0 and R2D2 are... even in a third world country.

Is it me or Plagueis would not need to be a Mocap character?
Good old practical, mask, make-up, like Bib Fortune, Ackbar or General Madine?

 

Nah. If he was to be a starring role with lots of emotion and stuff I can't see how he wouldn't be a mo cap.

 

With Mo-Cap they could be more move-able and put in some cgi work for Sith moves.
