    Hi all,

So, since I like the sound of my own thoughts… or whatever, I’m gonna go ahead and paraphrase/think out loud regarding how I currently believe XI will play out. Warning: It is extremely unlikely that any of this will actually come to pass ;)

    Opening Crawl
The First Order has won and things are looking bad for the galaxy. FO continues to win new ground and the New Republic is powerless to stop them. Nevertheless, Luke Skywalker has again sparked hope throughout the galaxy, and the Resistance are slowly rebuilding, planning to strike a blow at the very heart of the evil FO. Oh, yeah, and Leia died… ( <-- how the hellion they are going to convey this/do Carrie justice is beyond me; it seems such an impossible task and I wish LFL/JJ all the best here).

    --ACT 1--

I don’t think we’re going to see Leia’s funeral, ‘cause Star Wars ain’t got time for sitting around and moping much, and LFL wouldn’t us a let’s-all-remember-Carrie moment as a set-up for FO to crash the party and dishonor the entire thing. (But see below).

    Opening Scene
Space… (duh!) Camera pans somewhere/reverses to reveal a battle in the atmosphere of a gas giant world. Cloud City comes into view; it is on fire.

Screen-wipes to reveal a series of blast-is-going-down! scenes of FO kicking arse throughout the galaxy, similar but opposite to the RotJ Special Edition victory/celebrations montage. (FO enslaving Ewoks on Endor? Doesn’t make any sense, but would be cool, I think). Return to Bespin.

The Millennium Falcon blasts into view, trailed by a bunch of rag-tagged second-hand Starfighters and the like; Chewbacca & Rey in the MF cockpit, Finn & …someone at the guns, with Poe leading the fighters from a scrappy old Z-95 Headhunter (please, let this happen! I need Poe in a Headhunter!). We the audience cheer and woop, but the Resistance heroes look grim and desperate.

Rey or someone barks a, “Are you sure this guy can help? We’re taking an awful risk here…” to Chewie who roars annoyed.
Finn says, “I’ve got a bad…” and then an explosion rocks the Falcon.
“There goes our rare shields!” says Connix.
“Chewie,” Rey shouts, “get us in the shadow of that thing! (Cloud City) That place is doomed anyway!”
Much drama and action as our heroes enters Cloud City, extracts Lando (who refuses to give up on his facility and is possibly hauled out of there by Chewbacca) and some folks, and escape the battle. [The Resistance has effectively doubled in size, huzzah! :p ]

This stuff will either take up the entire first act (much like the Jabba’s Palace rescue mission), or the conflict could drag out with some chases. Since Star Wars is rarely a single group story, a splitting up of the Resistance characters is likely; my current best guess is that Poe (with BB8) will be left behind in the action, his ship damage. He will avert capture (sneak onboard FO vessel? Hide among refugees?), find unlikely allies (DJ?), and rise to the occasion and prove himself as a leader. The MF Resistance characters escape into hyperspace, but know the FO will track them (‘cause they have that technology now). MF is fast, however (thanks L3-37!) and gets a head start, reaching DESTINATION WOLRD (Coruscant? Nal Hutta? :D New place?) where our heroes slip away in the throng.

    --ACT 2--

We quiet down as a cat-and-mouse chase goes on between FO & Resistance. Our heroes need to consolidate and gather new allies & resources. They will find a sympathetic ear somewhere, possibly converting some faction into the Resistance. To honor the Leia thing, there might be some more to the New Republic here, some secret military system set up/inspired/funded by Leia or her cronies in the Senate or whatenot. Hopefully, Mon Mothma comes out of retirement somehow, if only to galvanize Resistance sympathies in the political theatre; perhaps she even manages to turn whole worlds against the FO now that Kylo & Co. are rampaging through the galaxy.

Rey & Kylo argue through Force projections/visions (or has that gone away now that Snoke is dead?). Ghost-Luke advise Rey some more, possibly giving her some insight into herself (probably not a reverse on who her parents are though… ‘cause that ship has sailed); Rey meets Ghost-Yoda (please?); also, Rey is fed info on Ben & the Skywalker bloodline and whatever, to prepare her for the final confrontation with Kylo (and his Knights of) Ren(?). This could all possibly take place on Yavin 4 somehow, with the Dark Side temple being used as an exposition scene.

Meanwhile, Kylo goes to Mustafar to learn about Vader & the Dark Side – Snoke have forbidden him from doing so earlier for [insert reasons], but now he can’t help himself. On Mustafar he learns about Vader and stuff, plus some key info on the Force that we don’t know about; he probably has a Force Vision/Ghostly encounter/Dark-Side-Cave-on-Dagobah-type-trial involving Darth Vader [‘cause coming full circle and all]. Alternatively, although I think less likely, Kylo [and?] Ren journey into the Beyond to find whatever Palpatine was after, but all of that is too grand and convoluted to take on in the final installment, I think, so my guess is the much smaller plot of Vader & Mustafar exposition informs Kylo going forward. (Leave the Beyond stuff to the TV show). Again, Yavin 4 is a strong contestant against Mustafar, although the latter is such a win-win that LFL really should try to milk it.

The act ends with a betrayal of some sort (please not Lando!), or with the Resistance falling for a trap (like RotJ), or some other Resistance defeat. The Resistance takes another loss and everything looks grim now.

    --ACT 3--

Various hero groups come together and unite their forces/insights. A plan is made… Somehow, the Resistance is going to launch an attack on the heart of the FO; the stakes are enormous and the task very difficult, but our heroes have to try it.

So, another Death Star I hear you say? No, hopefully not, but for an underdog-to-beat-the-evil-space-empire scenario to work, there has to be something that a small force succeeding against the odds can visually and spectacularly destroy on the big screen. Perhaps they can use one of Palpatine’s contingency stuff against the FO or perhaps it is just a matter of killing the bosses and disrupting the FO logistics/power somehow. An interesting twist here could be for the Resistance/New Republic to use a super weapon variant to win the day, perhaps something that Leia has overseen behind Mon Mothma’s back… that kind of stuff.

The final battle commences. Rey somehow finds herself in Kylo’s presence and they will fight and/or defeat one another and/or redeem one another and/or fight side-by-side against something (KoR? Evil Palaptine contingency Dark Force monstrosity? ( <-- I hope not. Monsters are boring). Um… Plagueis and/or his legacy somehow? Whatever is set up as the Dark Force escalation thing in Act 2 will be fought here, although it might just be Kylo vs. Rey, Round 2).

Meanwhile, the Resistance do their difficult thing, almost fails, but manages to dramatically pull it off in the end, possibly at the cost of someone sacrificing themselves for the galaxy.

Finally, we will get some sort of celebration, hopefully with reference to Leia. Perhaps we finally get her funeral at the end of IX, and/or Rey sees Ghost-Leia (not likely since KK has said Carrie won’t show up in IX in any way – let’s hope she was lying/have changed her mind), along with Ghost-Luke and possibly Ghost-others too.

    Bonus discussion – the Prequels
: It is said that the PT is going to be referenced more this time around, which could mean many things.
    • The Resistance victory could finally reverse the evilness that -- Palaptine & his Empire + FO later on -- inflicted upon the galaxy, re-empowering the New Republic for reelz somehow and possibly rebuilding the Jedi Order in a better and wiser way. (Luke is certainly not the Last Jedi! And Rey has books to start over with).
    • Another possibility is that FO or Resistance will somehow draw upon PT factions in Ep.IX. New Clone Troopers fighting of one or both sides? (*yaaawn*) Battle droids coming back? (Could be interesting, but probably not). Or, you know… Plagueis somehow? (Difficult to do right but might be worth trying? Perhaps not.). Or what about Mandalorians? Are they still around? (I don’t follow the books and comics etc. That said, I guess they would be more Clone Wars than PT, but still…).
    • Or, perhaps more likely, we’ll just return to Naboo or some other PT world which will be easy to do and perhaps the “safest” thing with PT feelings being so divided. (It would also be the cowardly thing to do, so I hope the PT gets to shine in a little more concrete way than that!).

So there you have it, my stupid, won't-ever-happen predictions about Ep.IX :D I could’ve made a ton more predictions (no Boba Fett for instance, as much as I would love to see him), but for now this will have to do.

To (almost) quote Yoda: “For the geek it is time to eat as well” :p *hungry*
