Another female lead! Oh no

Straight white men are who's been saving the day for the last 2,000 years.

They literally invented civilization. Starting with ancient Rome, get clued in on history then come back and talk to us.

I don't mind a strong female lead at all! Two hours of watching a smart, physically fit gal run around haveing adventures with an accent...sign me up! That's the only thing that saved those atrocious underworld movies, IMO. However, if they make Finn transgender because of his injuries, and he runs around that casino place telling everyone they can use whatever bathroom they "identify" with, I'm out.

 

Is this sarcasm? The point seems like it would have to be, but it's not written that way.

White men don't have a monopoly on "saving the day" except in American action movies prior to the last couple of decades. During most of the 2,000 years you refer to, white men have only really been saving the day for other white men - just like pretty much any demographic group, the priority is typically looking out for your own. We are all tribal by nature.

And if you want to get clued into history, Mesopotamia is generally thought to be the first civilization - and you wouldn't call them white. The Persians and Egyptians both also predate the Romans. Neither of them were white. Maybe you're thinking of the Greeks, who often get credit for creating Western Civilization. Because unlike the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, and Persians, the ancient Greeks were white. I don't think you can necessarily say they were all STRAIGHT white men, given some of the accepted sexual practices of the era, but if it's important to you to give a group of white people credit for inventing civilization, go with the Greeks rather than the Romans.

 

We all need to remember that the Star Wars franchise is a Disney product, and Disney trademark has always been THE PRINCESS



BUT, on an honest remark, i sincerelly don't judge or grade a movie as good or not good depending on the male or not male leading role, therefore i couldn't give less to the female lead on the new Star Wars movie i just wan't to see a GOOD STAR WARS MOVIE.

Honestly it's time to start some severe education around here if we start to get comments like these,(edit) on the other hand if someone states such absurdities it might not deserve any answer because ignorance is a bliss.

On the history note, just a brief check: civilization started in Northern Africa an Mesoptania in 8000 BCE with the advent of agriculture and husbandary, therefore the first civilians where Arab, then around 3000 and 2500 BCE the first big cities arise in Mesoptania, Egypt, and China; the Minoans and the Greek follow around 2000 BCE and 1500 BCE, the Roman who invented civilizatian as YOU know became after the Hellenistic peiod of the Greek civilization around 300 BCE, appeared in 100 to 60 BCE.

 

Since 2012, they bought the franchise, they don't invented it.
I guess many folks need to familiarize with that.

To be honest I don't like the template that they created with TFA.
I'am still looking forward to the upcoming successor and Rogue One. (the hope dies last)

 

The reddit rumors are how VIII will mick esb although it's already been stated officially that it will be wholly ew and original in every sense of the term.

 

Please don't be to hard on SW creative team, ROTJ is a very nice film, probably the Third best in the entire franchise

Today i've come to terms with TFA, guess i over antecipated the thing, just like i did with TPM, and in the end got a little frustated with the end result, BUT TFA is not bad at all it's a nice and very entertainment movie and with some great hopes of becoming a turning point on the last SW movies (I know i might just be over antecipating episode VIII, but i love SW so much that i want to watch a SW movie with the quality and the impact the first three ones had).

On one side note, "Rogue 1" might became the next big thing in SW Universe, or fail miserabily, but it has The Empire versus the Rebel Alliance and Vader and Bounty Hunters and X-Wing dogfights, ahhhh and it seems it also has the Death Star again (why SW Creative Team didn't realize that the greatest SW Movie is the one WITH OUT the Death Star?)

After all the criticism over TFA copying ANH i don't think they will take that road, i expect an original movie. In my opinion the abuse of ANH "references" on TFA doesn't make the movie worst but if it had a little less tribute then TFA might be an even better movie.

 

The references made TFA "overrated" like how a lot of us perceive the prequels to be but VIII is supposed to be the entire opposite.

 

I agree with you, it's still the third best. (our opinion)
I never stated that RotJ is a bad movie.
Actually I like it, but it's not the successor it could have been. (maybe I'am alone with this notion)

I agree with you a second time, TFA is entertaining to some degree, but it's not a good sequel in my opinion.
I have the feeling, that Disney is rushing the Star Wars movie projects.
They could come up with something better, if they would give themself more time.
I think they are currently doing this - to strike while the iron is hot -
It's nice to get a new Star Wars movie every year in the next few years, but they will not be masterpieces.
The quality of the movies will suffer and there is a possibilty that the audience/target group will get fatigued/supersaturated.

This will be an interesting topic for future debates.

Yeah Idk About her actul character as we haven't really seen anything yet but just that line sends chills down my spine...and not in a good way since it's cringe inducing.

No, TFA was comfortably #3 for me (with ROTJ being #4). And this whole debate is hilarious in the context of the freaking SW films:

-We've had SIX previous films all starring White guys.
-The casts of those movies were almost entirely male (and White). Those "only one important female/POC character per trilogy" jokes actually have some basis in reality. The other females were either irrelevant, useless, or had horrible stuff happen to them in order to further male characters arcs.
-The casts for TFA and RO are still overwhelmingly male.
-The nexy anthology after this is a Han Solo movie, who's a White guy. And Chewie, another male character, is the only other confirmed addition right now.
-Third anthology is rumored to be either a Boba Fett movie, or an Obi Wan one, both male.
-Disney hasn't "Princess-ified" the Marvel films (heck it'll have been ELEVEN yeas since the MCU began before we even get ONE female-led Marvel film). Sio that argument is, questionable, as well.
-Etc.

So please forgive me if I don't give much credence to the "SJW/PC police are ruining everything" nonsense right now, especially for this franchise (give it's history).

Also I'm still trying to figure out what's so bad about the "I rebel" line? Because it doesn't bother me at all. And given a lot of the dialogue in the previous films, even the good ones, it sounds positively Shakespearian by comparison.

 

I don't have problems with it either.
