i watch the Extended versions of the movies 3 to 4 times a year (+ the extra's)

My favorite movie of the trilogy is ROTK (it's also my favorite book)

I'm excited for the announced series by Amazon. If Gandalf appears in the show, i hope Ian McKellen will play the role again.

I read them once, and liked them (although, i had a hard time with the first one). My personal rank of the books is:
    1. ROTK
    2. TTT
    3. FOTR

I'm prepared to give Avatar a chance, but am glad of the LOR recognition.

yeah, I don’t get the Avatar movie at all, though I love the animated show by a similar name. But fellowship of the ring and a new hope never get old for me. I would go see them on the big screen any chance I get.

Yeah, I'm not a fan either.

Maybe it's not so much an acknowledgment of the quality of the film. The title of the list is Top Films You Must See at Cinema. Maybe that just means that the experience of watching Avatar is so vastly improved at a cinema vs at home that it tops the list.

And I was pretty innocent back in the day when Avatar came out, but judging from what some of my friends said, there were certain things they did to "enhance" their viewing of that movie at the theater. I don't know, maybe that's a factor in this list too :p

As a military guy, 5 mins into Avatar I had it figured out “Blue people good....Human military bad”

Oh, of course! That's part of the reason I think the Pocahontas comparisons aren't quite right. In Disney's animated thing at least, neither side is really the villain, it's the general idea of "conflict" that is the source of the... well, conflict.

Avatar gets one thing about colonialism a little more right, in my opinion- the colonizers shouldn't be there.

If anything, maybe this classic is a more apt comparison to Avatar... :p

Anywho, back to LOTR- anybody here play Shadow of War? Or are we more book fans here? How about the board game War of the Ring?

Not quite. There's a newer game out in the past 5 years or so. It's a little rule heavy, but mostly manageable, and a ton of fun.

Just a couple stills from our last game when I played with some friends in December:

That looks AWESOME and fun!! I want to play too!! I used to play a lot of wargames growing up including ones that I designed myself. You can buy blank hex sheets and blank counters, I used to make up my own games and rules.

This is what I am looking for too:

And in the scene they shared....

The most important part of the scene ended up being a ring

Honestly, both villains in Black Panther are among the best in the MCU.

Killmonger was obviously top tier, extremely sympathetic and well acted.

Serkis was a lot of fun, too. As my friend described him last night, "He's a villain that enjoys being a villain."

I think that really applies to his LOTR role, as well- maybe Gollum doesn't really consider himself a villain, but he gleefully gives into his tendencies.
