@StardustSoldier Amazing scene thanks for sharing . Shore’s score arguably as sweeping as JW’s work.

Here is one from my Top 3 faves

Oh yes, that's a fantastic scene too. My mother and I watched Return of the King together a year ago, and we both got chills during that part.

I've got all the blu-rays, I even purchased the book, but I would not label myself a fan yet, I noticed allot of people were reading the books on the subway on my way into work when the films were originally released in the theatre, so the films inspired allot of people to delve deeply into the lore.

I will credit LOTR for getting me into the Game of Thrones, I'm a huge fan of that series and have the books too, maybe when the LOTR Amazon Prime series debuts and if its good I might delve deeper. Nevertheless, I'm a huge fantasy fan I went to school to become a fantasy book illustrator. I've got John Howe's Fantasy Art Workshop. Howe's work work for LOTR is beautiful and inspiring.

I'm currently building models kits from the Gundam series and getting into the lore for that series. Nonetheless I can't wait for the LOTR Amazon Prime series.

Ah, I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing. :) I'm actually pretty okay with that release date; in fact, it's a bit sooner than I was expecting. Still a lengthy wait, but it'll make for a great Christmas present. :D

    Thread bump.

I finally replaced my Hobbit and LotR Trilogy (Extended Editions) DVDs with their Blu-ray equivalents and, to mark the occasion, I decided to embark on a Rewatch of the entire Middle-earth Saga in narrative order.

I know that 'conventional wisdom' says that The Hobbit films aren't as good as the The Lord of the Rings films, but I have always disagreed and love both trilogies equally, and so I'm really looking forward to spending the next several nights rewatching what is one of my all-time favorite film series.

Huge fan of LOTR. I really wish they made films out of Tolkien's old lore (The Silmarillion), but I know it all comes down to estate!

two years ago I did a Hobbit Trilogy watch a thon.

I should rewatch the Lord of the Rings trilogy one more time for old times sake. I think Peter Jackson did a good job at it. Cant think of anyone would even try to do the movies anyway.

Plus sometime this year i am planning on re-reading the Silmarillion since its been like 18 years since I last read it

Massive Thread Bump! Much has been released just recently about the new 2nd Age Series.

    1. First, the name of the Series will be "The Rings of Power" https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/lord-of-the-rings-rings-of-power-amazon-series-1235156784/

    2. Second, we have just received the first news of what the scope of the series will be, and OH MAN I think they got this right!!! [yeah I modified the font for the most epic news, IMO]

The title for Amazon Prime Video's Lord of the Rings show has finally been revealed, and it's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Showrunners J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay explained the meaning of the title in a statement, saying, quote, "The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth's Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men." Also adding, "Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring - but before there was one, there were many... and we're excited to share the epic story of them all. #LOTR The Rings of Power takes place in The Second Age, thousands of years before the events seen in the movies, but you won't have to wait quite that long. #LordoftheRings The Rings of Power will premiere on September 2, 2022.

    3. When Amazon bought the rights to the 2nd Age stories, it came with the caveat that "the stories told by Tolkien should not be deviated from on screen"
On the LOTR group I am on FB, a guy summarized all of the known writings about the 2nd Age from Tolkien, this is a really cool list:

FOR THOSE INTERESTED, HERE IS A LISTING OF THE PUBLISHED SECOND AGE MATERIAL:
    The Lord of the Rings:
The Fellowship of the Ring, "The Shadow of the Past"
    Appendix A, "The Númenorean Kings"
    Appendix A, "Durin's Folk"
    Appendix B, "The Second Age"

    The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien:
    Letter 131
    Letter 154
    Letter 181
    Letter 211
    Letter 227

    The Silmarillion:
Second to last chapter: "Akallabêth: The Downfall of Númenor"
Last chapter: "Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age"

    Unfinished Tales:
    Part 2, "The Second Age"
"Aldarion and Erendis: The Mariner's Wife"
"The Line of Elros: Kings of Númenor"
    "The Drúedain"
"The History of Galadriel and Celeborn"

    The History of Middle-earth:
V5, The Lost Road, Part 1, The Fall of Numenor.
V9, Sauron Defeated, Part 2, The Notion Club Papers (appendix on Adûnaic, the language of Númenor)
V12, The Peoples of Middle-earth, Part 1, Ch. 5. The History of the Akallabêth" and Part 4 Ch. XVII Tal-Elmar

    The Nature of Middle-earth:
    Part 1, CH. XVII
Part 3 (several chapters touch on the Second Age directly or indirectly in part 3).

Yes, that is indeed the battle where Sauron gets his mighty "bonking stick" out and goes to town!

The name of that battle was the Siege of Barad-Dur. From the year 3434 to the year 3441 in the 2nd Age. Yeah, it was 7 years long! The good guys had had enough of Sauron and put together the "Army of all Armies" - an alliance of Elves and Men - not just any men, men from Numenor (where Aragorn traced his lineage). The good guys had Elendil, King of Gondor, with the sword Narsil (the mightiest sword in Middle Earth), also Gil-Galad, King of the Elves (with the Spear named Aiglos - just another bad a$$ weapon), and Elendil's sons Isildur and Anarion, also the Elf Elrond (yeah the same dude inthe movies) and Cirdan. The bad guys had Sauron and a whole host of Orcs. The good guys end up forcing the Orcs back into Mordor, eventually ending up at Barad-Dur, the tall tower with the Eye on it in the movies. Sauron himself comes forth and kills Elendil , then burns Gil-Galad to death. When Elendil falls, the sword Narsil is broken, and his son Isildur picks up the sword shard and cuts the ring off of Sauron's finger.

oh also have you played the shadow of mordor games? They are quite fun, in that their is a whole orc hierarchy system, and the gameplay is solid. The only problem is that in this game is treated as canon, yet helm hammerhand is a ringwraith, celebrimbor forges two rings, there is a lot of necromancy, and shelob has a human form, is somewhat good, and is a maiar, even though ungoliant wasn't and even if he was she probably wouldn't turn out as a maiar. Again, very fun though. The core mechanic is using celebrimbor's spirit powers to possess orcs and make an orc army.
