Anybody else disappointed in the lack of marketing of Han, Luke + Leia?

Yeah, these new characters may be cool and all, but truth be told for the most part I could care less about them...Like 99% of Star Wars fans I think that Han, Luke and Leia are Star Wars and by far the biggest reason I will be going to see this film.

Thus far I've been more than a little disappointed that nearly all of the marketing (with the exception of the wildly popular "Chewie, we're home" line from the 2nd teaser) has all but ignored three of the most legendary/popular characters in the history of film.

I completely understand that they are trying to reach a younger audience that may not be as familiar with the big three as older fans are, but is it wise to do this at the expense of these legendary characters?

Hopefully as we get closer to the final wave of marketing to kick in we will start to see the big three in a much more significant manner.

they probably wont be playing a large roll in the film... I almost doubt there is much to see.... or maybe they do play a big part of whats going on in TFA and they are trying to keep it a surprise...

I'm sure as the release date approaches you will see more than enough of the 'old 3'. There isn't much for them to do right now, and in all honestly, I am 100% sure that Disney is trying to push the 'new faces' as much as possible. But as you say, its hard to 'care' for those that you don't really know yet. I would not get your hopes up except for a string of interviews starting around mid-November from the 'old 3'.

I agree with the OP 100%. I believe the fans of the OT characters should get a little more reverence for hanging on for 30 years before our beloved characters pass the torch in Episode 8.

I believe they're actually marketing this movie very, very well, the fact the we only glimpsed at Luke, at Leia and Han is so that we can keep on the waiting wagon and build up towards the movie. Would you have liked it if they showed the 3 right away and probably spoil you the surprise?

And honestly, I think the original characters, really, need no marketing, we've known them for almost 40 years!

I couldn't agree more. I think their entire promotional strategy has been crap so far. Most of my casual Star Wars friend/family don't even know a movie is coming out this year and are generally shocked when I tell them. Being only 3 months away that's inexcusable.

I have no idea if this is a result of JJ Abrams mystery box, or this idiotic sentiment that you could burn Star Wars fans out by too much promotion. Either way, it's the dumbest idea ever.

The movie is gonna make tons of money so I guess they don't care. I think we deserve better treatment. But considering they bought Star Wars in 2012 and made me wait an entire 2 YEARS (2014) before they officially announced the big 3 were coming back...in a black and white photo...I can't say I'm surprised.

I am amazed at the people who still don't know a new Star Wars movie is coming in December. How can people not see the articles online, the magazine covers, the new merchandise? The checkout lady at Walmart on Force Friday was totally oblivious about why it was such a big deal on Friday.

Han will play a significant part in this one. Luke isn't going to get any action. He'll play a mentor role in the next one. Leia isn't going to be too significant either. They will eventually get their action figures of course, and you might see Leia and Han in the full trailer. The movie isn't about them and that's why there hasn't been much focus on them. To be honest, even though I love the OT characters, I think Disney made the right decision- we need to move on to new characters and stop milking the cash cows.

I don't get it as well. Han Solo and Chewbaca are the only originals with a toy (Lego Mini-fig) in the TFA. Leia and Luke has been put off to the side. I get that the new cast will carry the movie, but I was hoping that we would have more inclusion in the marketing with the older characters. I don't know if it is an "old people" don't market well for toys (but Gandalf in LOTR is elderly, and he was part of the marketing campaign.). I hope the closer we get to the movie, the closer we get more about the Big 3. We are getting close to the 90 day mark before the opening, and I honestly hope that they will release a trailer with dialog soon, otherwise I will worry that they are hiding something and that Lucasfilm does not have full confidence in their new story. (I am looking at you Fantastic 4).

They won't be pushing Han, Luke and Leia until late in the game; either after the third trailer or just before the release.

And it makes perfect sense. They need to establish Rey, Finn, and Poe as the new, main characters. Then market the original trio to drive up the nostalgic factor. Had they done it the other way around, many would be complaining that Han, Luke, and Leia aren't in it as much as they were led to believe.

Of course it's coming, it can't get here soon enough. We're all very anxious to see the movie and that causes impatience.

Clearly they are using the OT characters to maintain a bit of suspense. Also they're all over 60. They can't be as dynamic (physically) as the new cast. To pull in the new generation of fans you have to balance and be careful of how you transition from the last time we saw the OT cast, how they look today, and how younger fans will process it.

I completely agree with this. Luke is, by far, my favorite character............I am SO hoping to see him for the first time, on the BIG screen and NOT on a monitor. (I want that same feeling I got when Godzilla was revealed in the movie last year in that first shot, that since of awe/wonder) As for the new characters, I am already starting to "get used" to them....I think Disney is doing things right here.

What disappoints me with marketing of the film is the lack of little nuggets here and there that I remember from the prequel days. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it felt like 10+ years ago we would get little pictures during filming of sets and people in costume especially with AOTC and ROTS. I thought starwars.com had a subscription thing one could use to get little updates and photos of the day or week as filming went on. Am I off on that? I don't remember too much back then because honestly I was smoking a lot of marijuana.

As for the original trilogy characters, yeah I was hoping to have at least some promo pictures of Luke, Han and Leia. Hopefully they become more involved in the marketing as time goes on. I understand there are new characters that need to push the saga forward but it is a sequel to Return of the Jedi so I really hope the original characters have a big role or at least have a big impact if screen time is limited.

Star Wars is all about Han, Luke & Leia. Unfortunately i've got this bad feeling that their screentime will be very very short..,
Disney needs them at least a couple of minutes on screen to make a "Star Wars" movie out of an ordinary science fiction story.

I'm not too disappointed. I already know the characters and know that they'll be in the film in some capacity. They don't need to sell nostalgia to me.
