Anyone else think Mark Hamill needs our help?

Or even throughout the whole video when he says; oh sorry I was sleeping. Just completely out of tune with the video. It's obvious he is doing it consciously in protest.

I can guess Hamills thought process: He is thinking he disagrees with the direction they (Rian) has chosen and a part of him still thinks; hey you guys still need me as an actor because I'm still Luke.

I think that as fans (of Luke at least) we owe it to the guy to stand behind him.

Man, I've watched so many of these Youtube premiere's and interviews of TLJ and in all of them this air of fear permeates them. The actors fear of directors' Abrams and Johnson and the directors' fear of Kennedy. Who sits there smug.

Even Abrams who stutters and looks over at Kennedy when he wants to answer a question and her waving her hand nonchalantly like a Roman Emperor as in : "Yes you may answer". Everyone afraid to speak their mind.

Hamill is the only one to make evident his opinion.

I really think that as fans we need to get behind him.

Edit: To be honest, what is Hamill saying? All he is doing is standing up for the characteristics of a true Jedi (something that I am afraid has been forgotten in the current age.) I.e. someone who doesn't give up. But not only someone who doesn't give up. The true meaning behind being a Jedi: That feeling of virtue, dignity, righteousness. Those three words probably mean little to audiences of TLJ. That whole noble and altruistic feeling seems to have been lost.

Enough has been said about whether Mark likes or dislikes what Rian did with Luke, so I'll respond just to the last paragraph. I understand disliking what they did with Luke in TLJ, but trying to claim that people who like what was done with Luke in TLJ want to cut to themselves off from moral virtues that Jedi represent is sad, just sad. The reason why people like is because at the end, Luke triumphs over evil, ridicules it and brings hope to the whole galaxy and does it so in a non-violent way that made him a Jedi in the first place. He understands that, while the Jedi Order as an organization was deeply flawed, people of the galaxy need Jedi as guiding beacons for their everyday struggles and symbols of virtue, dignity and righteousness.

PS. If you want to blame someone for Luke's exile, blame Abrams, not Johnson. Abrams was the one who came up with it and left all the dirty work of explaining why would Luke have ever done something like that to Rian, similarly to all other dangling plot threads from TFA left for other directors to tie.

I wish people would stop using Mark, to twist his words or perceived behavior, to back their views on the movie (and I mean everyone) as well as infantilize him: he is a grown, intelligent man, capable of both evolving his opinions and standing for himself. He is not some delicate flower who needs our protection.

There is also the practical issue of Hamill not wanting to spoil the end of the movie. Of course, he is going to say: "when I first read the script....etc.", "but when I saw the final result I was completely convinced by Rian's vision.....etc.". The first part is spoiler free, the second part isn't. Hamill is not going to spoil Luke's depiction in the third act of the movie.

So a pratical issue of 'not trying to spoil the movie' is the actual source of many misreadings of Hamill's comments. :)

No worries, the man's as fit as a fiddle - just another victim of conspiracy hyperbole! ;)

Let me put this into the universe - Mark's on-screen character is so strong and selfless his Force ghost presence will have more definition than all the live action around him in Episode 9.

I love it how as soon as a difficult question is presented to the cast, they all look at Adam Driver. The Supreme Leader is wise.

Me neither. :) But people blame Luke's exile on Rian while it has been known from TFA's premiere that he went into hiding.

Mark knows his fans love and support him.

And that many of us look forward to his essential Return in Episode IX.

Luke Skywalker's presence there is not an option, as I see it, but required if the New Jedi are to rise and not repeat the mistakes of the self-defeated Jedi Order of Old.

Luke can help Rey see past the doctrinal and historic limits of the ancient Jedi manuscripts and her own dangerous inexperience at this key point in Star Wars galactic history.

In that role, Luke can help Rey fulfill the vision set forth in the Journal of the Whills:

    "First comes the day
    Then comes the night.
    After the darkness
    Shines through the light.
    The difference, they say,
    Is only made right
    By the resolving of gray
    Through refined Jedi sight."

I think Mark has made it pretty clear that he's not afraid of Mickey Mouse.

I'd let the man speak for himself.
