I am really worried about Disney's attitude towards G. Lucas and Star Wars... just look at Ezra, who is basically an Aladdin pasted into Star Wars.. and I totally agree with this article.

The original interview also had George admitting he was using Star Wars as a way of experimentation. While it worked the first time around, it did not work the 2nd time around. I think his movie could have been great. But there is no way I would want George making his own movie.

I see no evidence of any of this. Let's watch the movie first, shall we?

I agree, there's nothing that suggests a "twilight" or teen drama for TFA. If anything, it points toward the OT which everybody loves, and the reason the PT's are generally disliked. I don't think George "cared" that the PT's were not what fans expected, and I do believe that if given control, the new trilogy would have looked more like the Prequels.

I seriously don't see why the focus on teenagers would mean we're getting "twilight crap".

That doesn't seem to be the case with TFA.

In the OT they had a love triangle between Han, Luke, and Leia yet that didn't take away from the main story.

I thought it was handled subtly and was just a side story.

I mean, they had to get that brother/sister kiss scene in there somehow...

Whoever wrote that article didn't do their research. It was Lucas who wanted a younger cast, like he had in the prequels. From Vanity Fair...

“Disney and Kathy decided they should consider other options,” as Abrams (not then involved) diplomatically put it. He said Lucas’s treatments had centered on very young characters—teenagers, Lucasfilm told me—which might have struck Disney executives as veering too close for comfort to The Phantom Menace and its 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker and 14-year-old Queen Amidala.

Opens news account. Immediately throws up link to some unheard of site with a poorly researched, click-bait style opinion piece. Pretty obvious what this thread is.

    Shameless, self promotion.

It's funny how he's like "I just read this article" or "I agree with this article."

Are you seriously going with those poll options. You're sort of forcing an opinion on us that we don't necessarily have. I don't agree with either option. Yes or No would have been sufficient.

Everybody's coming out of the woodwork blasting and having Preconcieved notions of a movie that has been a pure secret and hasn't even came out yet. Sad really

The crew of the Ghost have made my kids (ages 3-6) as excited about Star Wars as I was as a little boy. I'll take that any way I can get it, Aladdin Ezra or not. ;)

Besides initially being a "street rat" kind of character, the similarities between Ezra and Aladdin end there, especially now on his path to become a Jedi, or something worse if they decide to swing that way. This kind of criticism and fear about Star War's future direction is click-bait at worst and lazy at best.

Just for the sake of sanity, here's a reminder that the show being criticized (and erroneously linked to the films, for some reason) is a cartoon designed for 8-13 year-old children, on a network designed for 8-13 year-old children:

"Disney XD's schedule currently consists largely of live-action and animated programs aimed at pre-teens and young teenagers..."

And that being said, it's a pretty damn good show for pre-teens. TFA is designed for a far broader audience, is made by different people, and is about different things.

Also, are we really getting critical on the Ezra archetype, one that has existed since long before Charles Goddamn Dickens made it popular? This is pretty straightforward storytelling stuff. Part of the classic myth-making that is essential to what, I think, makes SW great.

Anway, stop being a troll, man.

Welcome to the Cantina.... However, not a great first thread here. I hope you are being serious with your post. I have no comment to this post and will not comment to these types of posts.
Everyone is entitled to there opinion but lets hope this is good natured. If you are serious I see no evidence of it myself. Lets just watch the movie and enjoy it's magic.

I don't believe these films will be "too much teenage focused", and the notion has been overstated. Disney is all about making money, they have the kid things for the kids, and these films are more for everybody. You don't minimize your profitability by pissing off the parents who will be shelling out the money.

The question about Disney's attitude towards GL, for me is of greater concern. Agree with everything GL did with Star Wars or not, and I don't, an argument can be made that he deserves more of a say in an advisory role (especially as it pertains to the episodic films). But he did sell it all to Disney (on the cheap if you ask me), and therefore he really has no say and that point, apparently, has been made evident to GL. Whether the new PTB are able to capture the same magic the previous six films have is yet to be seen. I believe it can, TFA will be great and I expect the ST overall to be great as well. Completely thrusting GL aside is not the way to go about things, I had hoped he would have had more of an advisor role than it sounds like he had, but we'll see how it goes.
