Having been born in 1974, I had the honor of growing up and seeing many of the iconic horror movies of all time. I saw the rise of many of the greats such as Jason Vorhees, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, Pinhead and Pumpkinhead. I also got to see some cool lesser known movies like these:

    0085_q.jpg

    2794537_The Unnamable.jpg

    house-1986.jpeg

    CHUD_poster.jpg

And even some wacky crazy ones as these:

So what about you guys? Even though we are getting some cool new horror movies such as The Ring, The Grudge, The Conjuring, Insidious and The Babadook and we are also getting tons of remakes of the old classics that are just too many to name, are any of you here in the Cantina old school horror movie fans? Did any of you get scared or creeped out by the likes of Michael Myers, Candyman, It, Pet Cematary or The Exorcist or where any of you guys grossed out by The Fly, The Blob or The Stuff?

The Exorcist will always be my favourite film. Period. It's a masterpiece - the acting, the scenery, the script, the cinematography, the 'music'. Just fantastic.

Give me horror any day of the week, old school, international - i'll eat it up!

Night of the Demons, Slaughter High, A l'interieur - i love horror.

I enjoyed the Babadook, it had a great old school feel to it, less up front, much more tension, atmosphere before the end payoff.

Yes the Exorcist still rocks hard to this day! I also enjoyed Night of Demons as well both the old one and the new updated version. I wonder why I can't seem to remember that movie without instantly remembering the chick sticking the lipstick inside her boob!

I feel the same way my friend. Sure there are a few good new horror movies these days but most are not scary at all just like you said and others are just plain gory without any horror elements in them. That's what happens with movies like The Saw and Hostel. Those movies are more like drama or suspense movies with gore elements but they are not one bit scary.

    Ghoulies Guild

I love classic strange-ones such as The Birds and Night of the Living Dead and modern gems such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Scream.

Mostly, I follow the Friday the 13th series, because Jason nicely captures a human curiosity about something 'bizarre in the woods.'

No, I'm not even a "modern horror film" type of person. I just can't stand that genre of movie making. I don't see why people want to scare themselves to death right before going to bed. Doesn't make sense to me. Some of my siblings used to do that when we went on vacations I'm always like, why do that to yourself?

    I'll never understand it :p

I really enjoy horror movies, but not the new ones. There are just for jumpscares and action... I like thrilling horror movies with a great story and terrifying 'villains'.

My favourite horror movie will always be this one:

Such a thrilling movie and the Halloween theme gives me chills.

Another great horror movie is the first Alien movie.

I LOVE Nightmare On Elm Street. Robert Englund is great. I actually saw him at my states Comic-Con this year and he talked about how he helped Mark Hamill get the role of Luke Skywalker!

Robert Englund is great indeed! Did you know that apart from being an evil dream slasher, he's also a lizard from space?

It was the series named V. There he played Willie who was one of the good visitors.
    robert-englund-102636 willie.jpg
The visitors as they were called in the series were a bunch of nasty lizard aliens who pretended to be human. At simple glance they looked all fine and dandy like this:
    79603590df6f97152a9f71ef0bb19ae3.jpg
Bull pull on their skin and you were in for a nasty surprise!
    visitor from v.jpg
    reptileface.jpg
And finally, to make matters even worst, those darn lizards were compatible with us humans so you never know what surprise you may get once you leave a bun inside your girlfriends oven as poor Robin here:
    Robin_Maxwell.jpg
Sadly for her, Robin fell in love with a jerky lizard and he made it to second base with her. Everything was peaches and cream but the resulting twins in her belly were a teeny bit different one from another:

The series is cool but you have to keep in mind that it's from 1983. There is a 2009 remake but I haven't seen that one. I tell you this because when I see a movie or a series that's old school, I go with a mindset ready to see things from that time. It bugs me a little when people ask about a series made in the 80s and when you tell them it's good, they watch it and then say it sucks because the special effects can't compare to the ones from movies like Pacific Rim or Avatar. How can they expect something like that? I once met a person that was bummed because she watched Creature from the Black Lagoon and didin't like it to much cause it was black and white and looked old! For real??? That movie was made in 1954 for crying out loud!!! What did she expect? Gillman doing Matrix effects? Ha Ha!

Old horror films are a blast! I really love anything that has it's inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft!
