As I said above, Bob Iger has recently confirmed that they will never so to making films but it's jus a matter of "when."

I don't think Disney is gonna stop at ix...why stop when there are so many possibilities Lucasfilm can go with. While George said before why he didn't continue doing more with Luke, leia and Han...I didn't believe that there were no more stories to tell. Well here we are now. What do you think might have happened between jedi and awakens? I know of the EU at the time when it was still canon...I have read most of the books but I miss watching a sw movie where there is so much to explore in that galaxy far far away. So I voted yes...I am certain that there will be more movies here and there.

I'm not all too anxious to see a sequel-of-a-sequel, but...we all know how cash-grabs work. It's the same reason why we have unending strings of sequels/spin-offs for big money makers: Alien/Predator, Saw, Friday the 13th...this list could go on and on. :D Alien is one of my favorite movies of all time, and after the release of both Alien III and Alien Resurrection I did so many disapproving-head-shakes that I have irreparable whiplash.

I suppose there are tasteful ways to carry on without completely demystifying the story while simultaneously maintaining a fresh perspective and adding new elements to the lore. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that if this comes to fruition, it will be done right. :D

I'm okay with letting sleeping dogs lie. For example, I love the Last Airbender and Korra animated series' and I was very sad to see the series wrapped up in a way that seems to be, well, completely permanent. That being said, I can appreciate how great the series was, no matter how short-lived, and I sleep soundly at night knowing that something new and refreshing will come along to sate my cravings for great story telling. :D

TLDR: It'll probably happen, and that's okay as long as it's done tastefully. :p

Seeing that Disney plans to release Star Wars movies for years to come, probably. I doubt they'd want to get rid of the new characters.

If there's a Fast and Furious VII, be ready for a Star Wars XX. The only limit is imagination. A movie every two years isn't that a big deal.

The point is that this trilogy isn't the end of the previous ones, it's the start of something big and that's why most characters are new and unrelated.

I'd like to see Kylo Ren survive this trilogy, perhaps be redeemed at the very end to become the hero of a following trilogy. I'd be quite happy for Lucasfilm to invade my brain for the next decade to indulge my fantasies, but I'm pretty bananas.

I feel that a 4th trilogy would work best if they kept Kylo alive and very much immersed in the dark side by the end of EP9. They've made a good foundation so far with EP7 in terms of background lore and the characters seem strong enough to carry another trilogy of movies. Having Kylo Ren be the "de-facto" villain of the Star Wars episodic movies going forward would probably only be achievable with more than three movies (which is a testament to how grand the saga's journey felt before TFA continued it). If the 3rd trilogy poses us the question of whether Ben is ultimately redeemable and answers us with a clear, resounding "no" (a moment to surpass and parallel him killing his father), then we have quite possibly a very intimidating, very despicable villain for the next three movies that everyone will love to hate. Introducing new main villains each trilogy, I think, would make them feel like more of a spin-off rather than the continuation of an overarching tale about the Skywalker family (not to mention that when you'd be sitting at 12 movies, Kylo Ren, and whoever else takes his place, would feel like a footnote compared to Vader and Sidious and I feel the character has more potential than that).

I would prefer to see more standalone Star Wars movies (spin-offs). There is so many subjects from the time of first 3 trilogies that could be developed and researched in many films. I would be delighted to see one day a film that will be placed
    1. film about the events in period between New Hope and Empire strike Back.
    2. a film that will show life of young Luke and Obi-Wan as his protector (great role for now older Evan McGregor).I always wanted to see Luke hitting Womp rats from his speeder.
    3. a film developing story before Phantom Menace, involving Joda, but also Palpatine and his Master Sno.. sorry Darth Plagueis the Wise, and their plot to overthrow the Republic and Jedi.

clouded, the future is...by giant boxes and crates of star wars merch at every big box store in the world.

yes, there will be another, and perhaps more still. My biggest concern is quality. if they can keep the quality high, they can make 'em till i'm dead and beyond.

I remember seeing a video long ago on YouTube where Mark Hamill, while promoting the original film in 1977, said George Lucas basically thought of Star Wars as a 12 part saga, and that the film they were filming the 4th film, and that he had a little backstory for what would be Episodes I-III, but was focusing on 4-6 because the middle is more interesting way to start for him as people don't know everything that's going on fully. It's also been stated that Lucas always wanted to title the original Star Wars "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" as homage to Flash Gordon serials and such, but Fox said not to do that as people might get confused as I-III didn't exist yet and the prequels only existed on a few pages in the beginning of his 300 page story outline to the Original Trilogy to give some context and backstory with Obi-Wan, Anakin and Darth Vader, and with all that in mind it was just called "Star Wars" for the time being, while Empire and Jedi had "Episode V" and "Episode VI" in the crawl. Hamill then said that Lucas would then work on VII-XII and have Hamill come back as a mentor, similar to passing down Excalibur to the next generation of Jedi. However the video was taken down by Fox due to footage of Star Wars being in the video so unfortunately you can't find it now, unless it's been uploaded again recently. But I remember it vividly, as I watched that interview many times and it was interesting to see how it seemed like VII-XII would happen, but in 2005 Lucas said it would only be a six part saga. So in the end, yes. I do think we'll see Episodes X-XII one day. Whether we are excited or not, I'm sure it'll happen someday.

If they are smart there is a Trilogy to be made around Snoke, why Luke is where he is, what happened to Han and Leia in that 30 years. Maybe a few Trilogies in that time. All with new actors similar to the Star Trek reboot.

This is why I believe in A TFO victory. If TFO wins the current sequel trilogy....you can guarantee that's what 10,11, and 12 will be on.

I'd much rather see a KOTR trilogy. Can you imagine?

Full-on Sith War. Tons of new characters, actors, directors that can jump on board. That's the timeframe that hasn't been touched on film at all.

With the current timeline, we'll have Episode 8 in 2017 and Episode 9 in 2019. With R1 this year, Han Solo in 2018, and presumably, another anthology in 2020. (Fett? Kenobi? - I hope Kenobi.)

They can then get ready for a KOTR trilogy to start in 2021 or 2022 if "Kenobi" ends up being made and is 2 parts, like Ewan has half-joked about.

But even if it is 2021 - then you have the 1st part of the KOTR trilogy then, then the 2nd in 2023, then the last in 2025.

That takes us almost a decade into the future.

We'll see if the public is "star-wars'ed" out by then.

If not, you make Episode X with Rey and Kylo, siblings or cousins who are leading they're own various factions and have to team up against alien invaders. (think of the Vong) You can combine the feel of the trilogy most recently seen, the KOTR trilogy (war - with jedi/sith combat) with the characters from ST that people will have grown to love, but older who they haven't seen for a while.

(and it gives the actors a good 6-8 years to make other films and explore their careers apart from SW. Which they are likely to want to do)

    Just my random ideas...:D:D:D

The only way there's no episodes after IX is if the world ends.

Each movie trilogy revolves around a specific story arc and the antagonists that fit them. Having the First Order serve as the primary antagonists for the Sequel Trilogy only to keep them around for the purposes of padding out the saga would be redundant, especially considering that they're basically the Empire 2.0 (though I hope that changes with the next two movies as we learn more about what sets them apart from their predecessors).

When they do the Sequel Sequel Trilogy (or whatever the devil we're going to call it - and yes, it's a matter of when they'll do it, and not if), those movies will revolve around a specific set of antagonists that will exist to establish a central theme. This much I can tell you. New trilogy, new conflict, new theme. Otherwise, they'd just be milking the cash cow by revisiting what we're already familiar with (which is kind of what the Anthology films are for, aside from the additional insight they'll bring to the setting as a whole).

My guess is that we'll see some sort of reworked version of the Legends-based Yuuzhan Vong storyline for the next trilogy. The species is technically canon based on the fact that there was a script for The Clone Wars that featured them, though how they're implemented in said script is different and more in line with what we think of as "Canon" these days. Plus, it's an extragalactic threat, and that's something we've never seen on-screen before with regard to the franchise.

I think they should tie up this story, call Episodes 1-9 "The Skywalker Saga" and then make a new set of saga films, starting again with Episode 1 and calling it "The Whatever Saga". Set it 100 years after the Skywalker Saga and create something fresh.

Yes sir. Bring on the Vong. That would be amazing if executed properly.
