Just thinking, the way the canon is being so skilfully linked up, there is a possibility that we do not see Kanan die or Ezra fully turn to the Darkside in Rebels and it could all be linked to Thrawn. (All of this spec is based on further spec that season 4 will be the last).

Firstly, I think Thrawn is going to win something of a phyrric victory at the end of season three - I don't think this is much of a speculative assertion as it's heavily alluded to in the last trailer we got. He's going to find Phoenix squadron's base and destroy it. PS will suffer heavy casualties but the bulk of the main crew and some of their squad will escape to Dantooine to join up with the newly formed RA.

But what if Ezra is captured and the beginning of season 1 sees him brought before Vader and eventually the Emperor? What if they attempt to bring him to the darkside? He's there for a while but eventually is rescued by Kanan and the crew later in season four. (Maybe Kanan gets killed in the rescue, maybe not).

Towards the end of the season, with the death star near completion, the Empire gets cocky and decide they don't need Thrawn around, we see Krennic, Tarkin and co try to push him out and the Emperor decides to send him to the unknown regions to begin preparation for the contingency
which would place him out there when Sloan and Hux arrive at the end of Empire's End
and Ezra (and Kanan if still alive) leads a task force to follow him and they lose contact with the rebellion.

Also - side speculation on Maul - what if Obi Wan does not kill hime but convince him that Sidious is the main enemy. The unlikely source Ezra enlists help from for the s3 finale could be Maul. Maul could then be part of the rescue attempt to free Ezra and either die or end up being part of that expedition to the unknown regions with the others.

All wild speculation but stuff I think would be pretty cool to see.

Yep- within a wide margin, I think that's a fair and reasonable guess.
I (now) have faith that whatever happens, the story will be excellent.
The writers seem to have quite a good handle on things.

This is an interesting concept that I'd be happy with!

It could also lead to a live action Thrawn/Ezra (Del toro?)

Like and agree with the Thrawn aspect, can see something like this going down.

As for Maul? They have to kill him, it leaves to many answers as to where he is. It'd be too much of an open door if he's alive.

I have a hard time believing Del Toro could play Ezra in Episode 8 (if he is even in Episode 8). Era would be the same age as Luke and Del Toro in real life is 15 years younger than Mark. Unless with a lot of make up, it would be hard to see Del Toro play a character that is pushing 70. With that said, I can see Del Toro play as Thrawn as he has similar face structure. That's was my first thought when I read he was cast in Episode 8.

I'd agree that I can definitely see Thrawn seeing out the season on a high and there being a fair bit of fallout carried into S4.

Your theory about the ongoing arc for Kanan and Ezra is an interesting one, but I'm still hesitant about whether the two of them (as opposed to the rest of the Ghost crew) will really survive beyond the end of the show. I know the target demographic is a younger one and it would be a bit of a challenge to kill off one or both of the leads - but it seems possible, perhaps with the other going into exile or accompanying Zeb to Lira-San and not being able to return. Whatever the outcome, I don't see any of these characters being around by the ST era - time wise (let alone narratively) it feels like too long a stretch, how old would they be by then?

I'd gamble that Maul will fall, it's been fan service to bring him back and perpetuate him - but narratively he has to be long out of the pitcure by the time RO/ANH comes around.

Well any of the above scenarios sees him out of the picture by the time RO comes around but I don' think narratively speaking, Obi Wan has to kill him, in fact I think from a narrative perspective Obi Wan has to be Maul's opposite. Maul goes to kill Obi Wan, but Obi Wan convinces him that he is not the enemy, that the fate that befell Maul on Naboo was Sidious's fault. Maybe the voice of Qui Gon will get a look in.

Yeah, this theory does sort of address that issue of "darkness" with a Disney XD show, while simultaneously allowing for the possible rumor of Del Toro appearing in the future as an older Ezra.

Some possible solutions for where the Ghost Crew ends up at the series conclusion:

Ezra- I like the idea of him heading after Thrawn into the unknown regions. Empire's End implies that may well be where he is during that era, as they have charts from him for those areas, which would also imply his survival. Those charts could also be from his pre-Empire years, though. Check out this excerpt from the upcoming Thrawn novel, between Palpatine and Thrawn:

These "threats" are interesting, as well- sounds like that might be important in the coming films... Maybe Ezra and Thrawn eventually end up working together for the betterment of the GFFA, even?

Kanan- Honestly, I don't see Kanan making it to the end of the series. His death could absolutely be a big moment for Ezra, and it wouldn't seem as totally out of place in a Disney XD show (after all, Disney loves to kill off parental figures, don't they?) In fact, I don't think he's guaranteed to even survive the Battle of Attolon (or the Battle of Chopper Base- however they decide to call it).

Hera and Chopper- We see Chopper in Rogue One, and I can only imagine "General Syndulla" is Hera. Not to mention, we see what is almost certainly the Ghost, and Hera's voice actor contributed vocal chatter for the Battle of Scariff. Not sure how they did in the battle, but I think we can assume they both made it at least to that point, which I imagine will be chronologically after the events of the show.

Sabine- Lots of options for her. Is she with the Ghost at Scarif? Do her loyalties lie with Mandalore? Is she Rey's mother :)p)? I guess she could theoretically die, but I don't see much point in that. She definitely doesn't have to die to fall off the radar.

Zeb- Same goes for Zeb, really. I think going to Lira-San would be a nice ending for him. Also likely would be him being given the option, but instead opting to stay aboard the Ghost.

Sato- Dude is so dead in the finale of this season.

Ahsoka- I get that her "scene" with Vader didn't explicitly show her death, and that sometimes implies a character's survival- but maybe it was also simply to spare us from having to watch Vader chop his former apprentice (and beloved character) into little bits. After all, we generally don't assume the younglings all survived simply because the camera cut off from that scene in ROTS.

I would be thrilled to read this story line. I don't however think this is a path they will go down, not yet at least. I'll probably change my mind by the mid-season of season 4 of rebels.

I agree, I don't see Disney killing off a children's show main character. The best theory I've seen is yours that Ezra, Kanan, and Ashoka, follow Thrawn to the unknown Region, this where their story line continues through Episodes IV, thru VIII, we might see them return in Episode IX who knows. Great Theory. BDT is not Ezra though as more leaks are coming out it seems that he will play Ducain. The one stole the millennium falcom from Han Solo.

That sounds pretty cool actually, where'd you see that? Looked up Ducain and Wookiepedia says he's a gun runner, which could make for an interesting character and story.

The source of these rumours is this highly "credible" "leak."
