Hello all...the end of the Skywalker saga is upon us and I thought it would be a cool idea for each of us to reflect on these movies and what they mean to each of us. Felt it would be something positive for us all to take part in amidst the reviews, debates, so on an so forth. To start off...here is my ode to Star Wars:

Everyone has something of theirs that was their favorite growing up. A favorite toy, game, movie, TV series...the list goes on and on. Most people tend to hold a soft spot for those things or maybe get lucky enough to hold on to them forever. Star Wars has been all of that for me and then some.

Ever since I was introduced to this world at 9 years old, it’s been my escape. I’ll never forget the rush I felt after watching Episode IV for the first time. I was the most unathletic kid of the neighborhood “First Street Gang” but nobody’s bicycle went faster that day. In my mind, it was an X-Wing and I was ready to take on the Empire. Luke Skywalker showed me on that Sunday afternoon that I can do anything, anyone can be a hero, and it’s a message that’s stuck with me through the years, even to this very day. In the highest of highs, the lowest of lows, and everywhere in between, Star Wars has always been there for me.

I’m 24 now and eventually, you sort of outgrow these things. Not entirely, but nothing lasts forever, especially those favorite things from yesteryear. As the Skywalker saga comes to a close, it feels like goodbye in a way. Not in the sense that I can’t ever watch these movies again, or that they’ll ever stop making them, but it’s time for a new generation to enjoy them as much as I did. To pass it on to the kids of today and those of the future, like any good Jedi would, so they can love and cherish it too.

Thank you to George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and all the other actors, writers, directors, etc. who brought this universe to life. You all created something that gave me sunlight on cloudy days, hope when it was needed most, and reminded me to never, ever stop dreaming. Again, thank you all.

When the final trailer released a while back, it brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of a group of young boys in Grapevine, Kentucky playing with their toy lightsabers and believing they were Jedi Knights, fighting the good fight to restore peace to the galaxy. That’s how I’ll remember this saga most and my ultimate hope is that Star Wars will forever inspire children across the world, like it did myself and so many others.

God bless that galaxy far, far away and may the Force be with us all.

One of my first memories is early 1980s. My dad had hooked up two huge speakers to our TV, specifically to watch Star Wars A New Hope. And seriously annoy the neighbours. My bother and I watched it every day for years.
Three years ago, my dad (who is not in the best of health) came to visit. My son (his grandson) wanted to watch TFA. Dad hadn't realised Star Wars was still going. He let him put it on (primarily to keep my son quiet). Two and a bit hours later, my father (who had sat spellbound) said that he really enjoyed the movie. He particularly enjoyed Finn and Rey.
I'll always be thankful to Lucasfilm, Disney and JJ for letting me give my dad a few hours lost in the GFFA with his grandson on his knee. However good or not so good the movie is, it takes us to another place. Another time. Thank you Star Wars.Thank you Mr Lucas.

It meant everything to me until disney got their hands on it. I can't believe what they have done to it - the movies I grew up on, all the great memories shared with my dad going to the movie premieres, all the merchandise and 1000's of times we hung out as a family and watched the movies over and over again. After all that I'm left with this. I'm absolutely disgusted at Disney and I will never forgive them for ruining and taking away all the enjoyment I get from Star Wars. I'm utterly heartbroken at what they've done. JJ, KK and especially Rian Johnson. They have taken what I love and mutilated it beyond all recognition.

I'm utterly speechless and destroyed. My only hope now is that enough people feel the same way I do, that we can get together and somehow convince Lucas to come back and finish the story correctly. Hopefully Disney can show some humility and admit they absolutely dropped the ball with the sequels - hopefully they can reboot the franchise and give us the ending we deserve. Most of the actors are still alive, George is still alive. Let's start a campaign to get the real ending to the skywalker saga made, not this abomination disney fan fiction!

I'm just crushed. How can a company as big as disney be so clueless as to what the actual story of Star Wars is? How is it possible to ruin something so completely? With all the money and talent they have at Disney, THIS is the best they can do?!? Disgusting! Disney will NEVER get another dollar from me!

I have a lot of memories
You will always have the classic movies.

Forget what you dont like. I did this with the prequels.

Keep your focus only in the movies, series and books that you really enjoy.

Agreed. That's what I'm going to have to do. The only issue is, with the prequels, they didn't affect the OT. It's like reading a book half way through - you love the story so you decide to read the beginning. The beginning was ok, but it wasn't as good as the middle and the events didn't happen like you thought they would. The beginning of a book can't ruin your enjoyment of the middle. The ending on the other hand affects everything that comes before it.

I'm just a bit crushed at the moment, coming in here and chatting with people like you helps. You are right though, I'm just going to have to blank it like I did (like everyone did) with the matrix sequels lol.

We still have the mandalorian :D

I'm very curious for The Mandalorian. Haven't seen it yet.

Maybe you will enjoy TROS a little bit more if you give it another chance.

Hopefully. And really, cancel whatever you are doing right now and give the mandalorian a watch, so good!
