I would have loved too, but I'll be out of state by then. I didn't hear about this soon enough to work into my schedule. :(

Star Wars, StarTrek & LOTR: Our Modern Mythology

    6/5/2016 / 3:30 PM-4:30 PM / Room 146

“Along time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” Star Wars resonated deeply by presenting a wide range of familiar character types and storytelling traditions. Science fiction, medieval legend, historical romance, fairy-tale, ancient myth, gunslinging Western, and epic adventure are all easily identifiable in the cinematic tapestry that is Star Wars. And these same genre markers are recognizable throughout fellow modern mythologies such as Star Trek, the Marvel/DC Universes, and The Lord Of The Rings. These all present a deeply rooted reinvention of mainstream lore by reintroducing a true sense of wonder and legend into the cinema-going experience. And, as true mythologies, they all have the power to affect people’s lives both inside and outside of the movie theatre.
