I love the cute little, “ the child”. I really hope we get a name for him or at least the name of Yoda’s species.

 

Hey, a child needs a father and a mother...

Baby Yoda is legit everywhere in stores. lol

 

What I'm wondering is, if the child does talk, will he/she talk backwards?

Some people have noted that there are other characters as old as Yoda who don't seem to use Yoda's unusual syntax (like the Bendu). So maybe it is just an inherent feature of his species?

As there are no other speaking individuals of Yoda's species in canon (right? or does Yaddle speak in some canonical comics or other?), it is impossible to say whether Yoda's unusual syntax is due to his personal speaking habits or if it's some native language influence thing.

It is also worth noting that Yoda hemself isn't consistant in his OSV/SOV pattern... and I THINK he speaks it more consistantly/forced in the PT (and certainly in the animated shows) than he does in the OT (and TLJ, I believe).

From a stylistic point of view, however, I would expect Babyoda to lean on the OSV/SOV structure. I mean, if he was not supposed to resemble/invoke Yoda in the first place, they could just as well has made him a powerful Togruta or whatever.

 

From a certain point of view : when the first trilogy came on screen, wasn't Yoda kind of intended to embody the christianity and the christian philosophy, using the latin and its inherents OSV syntax?

Several other terms in the story (Jedi for example) come form other religions and other cultures.

 

I haven't heard that before, but it could be? Latin is an SOV structured language, along with fellow "religiousity-loaded" languages, like Classical Greek and Sansrkit.

As for OSV that is a bit rarer, but are used in Arabic & Hebrew. You can also use it in some English & German sentence variations (and I think it is more common in poetic literature, although that's just me guessing).

But yeah, I could see Lucas deliberately chosing a "religious" language structure for Yoda.

 

I hope he doesn't speak till the last episode.

Might or might not have been covered but I suspect "Baby Yoda" might be a late bloomer.
Its been said BY is 50 years old. Yoda has a padawan by 100.

Either the development of BY accelerates from year 50 to 100 or someone in LucasFilm dropped the ball.

All I can remember reading is that Francis Ford Coppola advised GL to turn Star Wars into a religion... I think GL succeeded in that endeavor whether he wanted to or not.

 

So BY.. clone or not?
I say yes b/c Dr. Pershing appears to have a Kamino clone patch on his arm...

 

Kuill literally says he used to work in the gene farms and BY doesn't seem like a strandcast (genetically engineered being).

 

Favreau has explicitly stated that The Child is NOT a clone... of Yoda. He could, of course, be a clone of some other green little friend, even despite Kuill's suspicions. I assume Dr. Pershing to simply be an (ex-)cloner working for Karga/Gideon on some nefarious, yet-to-be-explored cloning plot, and doesn't indicate that The Child is himself a clone.

Personally, I suspect that The Child sharing birthyear with Anakin is some how relevant; that both character's mysterious origins could somehow be related, even if only in some tangenital way. But who knows?
