It sounds like it is the same in every language.

For me, it's politeness, it is what made our countries survive and our cultures grow. They just don't lack grammar, they lack culture, intelligence and they want everything without contributing to anything.

They are also daily outraged for basically anything. It's a new world, the world of one way requirements.

But maybe it is just what it means to become old :D

It is not incorrect to use the first sentence, it is simply less formal. In formal writing or a situation where casual speech would be inappropriate, using "may" would be the safest choice.

You could be cheeky and respond to the informal request with "Yes, you can." but that would be pretty rude when words often have multiple meanings. By the same logic, using your example of "I would like" should be met with a response such as "Well, that's nice." and no further action, because the phrase is sometimes used to express a desire for something instead of asking permission.

Thinking of the cantina I initially voted no, because a lot of us aren't native english speakers and therefore prone to mistakes in that area. But after reading the post I think that's not what you're talking about and I changed my vote. I'm not as strict as you seem to be but sometimes I'm really annoyed.
A classic example of what annys me everytime is if people in german use:
"In 1977 wurde Star Wars veröffentlicht"
in german that is (or maybe was when I was younger) just wrong.
    It should be
    "1977 wurde..."
    or
    "Im Jahr 1977 wurde..."
And it still hurts my brain when I hear the other version which is more and more used in all types of media now (which probably means that it is now proper (but ugly) german).

So, I'm also annoyed by people who begin conversations and sentences with the word "so".
    Oh...

And emphasising speech with "so" to make conversations have more impact.
    Examples:

    "It was so loud".
    "He was so annoying".
    "They were so rude".
    "It's so tall".

Remove the "so" from the examples above. Use variations of other words to replace "so", or omit them altogether.

    "It was very loud".
    "He was annoying".
    "They were quite rude".
    "It's impressively tall".

That was so rude. What you actually meant was:
    True that.

How do we know that's actually in German? Could be Huttese. ;)
