    Probably true. But I also suspect his role was beefed up in the reshoots. Things like the scene of Bail returning to Alderaan strike me as the sort of thing that was probably added in the re-editing.

    Alderaan is not great. It never was great.
    Overrated. The destruction of Alderaan is fake news.
    I'm not convinced it was even ever real.

    But what world is Bail Organa from? Leia's home planet wasn't always called Alderaan: back in 1975 it was called "Organa Major," after the royal House. And as I understand it, some of the variant scenes in Rogue One were written so the film could be compatible with more than one SW timeline.

    (This is also why Vader's lava planet isn't named: it's Mustafar now, but in 1975 it was "Condawn," the planet where Vader's Sith Lords won a great victory in battle against the Jedi.)

    Whatever was the name back in 1975, the Great Swipe of 2014 made sure the name of Leia's planet is Alderaan.

    And Pablo Hidalgo has already explained why Mustafar was not named onscreen.

    Bail's appearance in Rogue One really ties the trilogies together nicely. I was glad to see him appear for more than 2 seconds. The conversation between him and Mon Mothma was much appreciated.
