    A new Star Wars classic.

This scene is intense and plays like a film-making master class exhibiting top-notch cinematography, choreography, set and sound design.

    Rumble in the Throne Room.gif

The point I wanted to make (but couldn't find an appropriate thread) was how, in retrospect, I'm happily surprised that Rian didn't take the opportunity to demonstrate Kylo's command of obscure Force moves during the fight.

They say "less is more" and I think it was a tasteful move to mirror the OT's subtle use of Force powers and have a melee battle without bringing any new or gimmicky Force tricks to the fore.

This isn't a cheap shot at the PT's combat panache which has it's own merits.
More a realization that if it were me directing I would have been tempted to throw some sweet new Force moves in there!

    Nice job.

Any thoughts on the scene are welcome here.

    Edit: english

Goes down as one of my favorite scenes in all of Star Wars. It's not elegant. More brawl like, and I think it was supposed to be. Let the past die and its no longer a more elegant rigid forms age.

My fave scene of TLJ but not of all SW films made.

Agreed very much on the fact it's more brawl than duel and that was one piece of fresh I liked.

It was beautiful to see the blue and red light saber teaming up.
The context of the scene made it so powerful... The only thing I could think about after seeing it, was: "More!"

The scene look gorgeous. Everything I see in the throne room looks amazing. The dialogues, the duels, the surprises and especially the astheistics. RJ nailed with the red in this movie: Curtains, pretorians and Crait.

There's a chance Rey's light saber throw to Ben wasn't just good aim and good catch? ;)
I loved the little eye twitch he gave after Rey helped him out of his trouble with that move. I think Adam's made it a bit of a Ben signature.
And Rey learns a valuable lesson from that move - don't give the unstable guy all the weapons!!

I hear you though. I'm waiting for Kylo to bust out the Asajj Force pull into light saber blade on an enemy (maybe minus the kiss of death).
I'm still getting used to the poster being such a dramatic change from the Drew Struzan colors, but I'm over my concern that all that red palette may have been overkill.

You're right...gorgeous. Rian certainly didn't need blood to highlight the violence...

    Red Mist.gif

    Wasn't it?
And that blue saber sure stands out.
It really looks like a Throne Room imposter - hacking off bits of Praetorian guard and flinging their flaming remains into the curtains!

I loved the scene, not just because it was beautifully shot, but because it's true to the characters and situation. A combat with multiple opponents doesn't call for some major display in swordsmanship - it's kill or be killed. So, it's a brawl. Also, that's only kind of fighting Rey knows, she wasn't going to learn to fight with style on Jakku. She had to survive, so if bashing them aggressively works - great. That's another thing I liked, how aggressive she gets. I might have mentioned it somewhere else on the board, but that's a good tactic when facing someone - you act dangerous until you become dangerous. I can see Rey employing this tactic on Jakku until she learned to really defend herself. And Kylo is a big ball of rage and resentment who, while having actual combat experience, would choose to end the fight as quickly as he can.

The scene is great for it's significance as well - a temporary alliance born out of wrong perceptions - one fights to gain an an ally for galactic dominance, the other for it's salvation.

I don't know if I heard it correctly, but I believe the fight choreography is directed by the guy who does Game of Thrones as well. The fight in the forest certainly was.

It is also interesting to note that Medieval fighting techniques are always very physical and make creative use of all the parts of the weapons the fighters use.

I also love this part where the Praetorian and Rey are taunting each other. Fire!

The lightsabre fights in the sequels are very realistic.

This. One of the things that I adore in the ST are the realistic duels, especially Rey x Kylo at the starkiller base. The choreography is not forced, the moves are agressives and the only porpouse is to destroy your adversary soon as you can. There are no ballet moves like in the PT.
