Hey guys, I saw a thread hasn't been created for the new Inferno Squad novel yet, so I figured I'd start one up.

I got it yesterday and finished it up today. Great read!

I really enjoyed how the book put a spotlight on the grey areas of the Star Wars universe. I was definitely conflicted by some of what I read about the characters and their outlooks and actions, powerful stuff.

I have more thoughts, but I'll wait to hear some more input from the other forum members first. What did you guys think about the book?

Ohh giddy another quick reader I finished it late last nights. It certainly pushed this rebellion cell very much into the very murky world of what is & is not acceptable in war. For me I ne of the most powerfully lines was that Rebellion is not built on hope but Rebellion is built on hate that just is far removed free m both th OT & R1 that it's hard to say we're these guys even on the Rebel Alliance side & Iam still not sure what there end game was they just seamed to want to hurt the Empire as much as possible & not really care about what cam after.

    SPOILER THREAD, YES!

So, as i said in the other thread, I liked the book (well written, complex characters, etc.), but I didn't love it. I agree with @Addi Ras, the Dreamers' end game was murky, but I guess that was Saw's legacy - only hurting the Empire mattered. I wished Inferno Squad members went on more missions together with Dreamers, so we could get to know more of them better. It's as Lux said, the Dreamers and the Empire were awfully alike.

Still, if they infiltrated the regular Rebellion, I don't think I could have the least identified with them. Plus, I wanted them all to be just soldiers, albeit the best soldiers. But, Iden is brainwashed since she was a child, Hask lost his parents to the Rebellion hence grew up hating them, Seyn is practically a genius. Only Del had a soldier's career. I connected somewhat to Iden, because she didn't become an automaton, but I couldn't gloss over her thoughts on Alderaan and how they brought destruction on themselves. But, I was glad she spared Lux. LUX LIVES! The other one was Del, I really liked his relationship with Piikow.

Talk about the shades of grey. I liked that, still a Rebel. :D

A quick question was Senator Lux a Clone War cartoon character I got the impression he was a fairly major character that I was ment to know but he didn't ring any bells.

@LadyMusashi is right I don't think this book would have worked as well with them infiltrating the Rebel Alliance as Iam not sure what type of mission they could have gone on that would make me want them to sabotage it.

As for characters I enjoyed them & I wouldn't say Idenwas any more brainwashed then the young kid in the dreamers who was basically a child soldier. Seyn felt like a odd choice to go on a undercover mission she she is a brilliant analyst but she very unsuitable to undercover work the empire must have had much more experienced undercover operatives but her death still hit hard even though it was expected thanks to the leaked image of Inferno Squad from the game & was nice to see that the rest was of the squad refocus on ther mission in its aftermath. Del was probably my favourite as well finally a compitant stormtrooper who had a interesting career & his droid was pretty cool too.

Lux's mother was part of the Separatist movement during the Clone Wars, but was killed at the order of Dooku when she proposed peace with the Republic (because Padme was her friend). Lux was orphaned. First he wanted to join the Death Watch against Dooku, but their methods weren't honorable. Finally he returned to Onderon (his home world) and joined the resistance against the Separatists led by Steela and Saw Gerrera and was trained by Anakin and Ahsoka who had a crush on him - though he had a crush on Steela. When they liberated Onderon, he decided to serve the Republic. Presumably he became the Senator after this until the fall of Republic and dissolving of the Senate.

I enjoyed the book and it wasn't what I was expecting. I agree that if they had infiltrated the actual Rebel Alliance it would not have worked. I didn't really connect with any of the squad member like I have with other imperials in other novels like Rae Sloan, Ciena Ree, or Eli Vanto. I did like the Rebel Rising nods and Lux showing up.

@Addi Ras - these are Lux's episodes in The Clone Wars: Heroes on Both Sides, A Friend in Need, A War on Two Fronts, Front Runner, The Soft War and Tipping Point.

This is what he looked like then:

Really enjoyed the novel and has me even more pumped for the game in November!!

Cool to see Lux is still around (but any ideas on his God daughter or am I missing something?)

Enjoyed the tie ins to Rebel Rising and Rogue One too. The name Dreamers took a while to sink in, at first I thought it was a bit silly but it grew on me! Interesting character development and twists along the way. Very pleased with the book!

i had mixed feelings upon finishing this book. first of all, i think it's pretty poorly written from a technical standpoint. structurally it's okay--very by the numbers story, but entertaining. the language was redundant and kinda fluff. this is all okay, i suppose, but the quality of most of the rest of the other books (even the ones i don't like) has been far superior. also: typos! good heavens. seriously, between the language in general and the typos it's like an editor never touched this thing.

all that kvetching aside, this was an easy, quick read and had some great characters. i didn't expect to like Iden or Seyn, but i did. Gideon and Del were awesome. Admiral Versio was awful (but in that love-to-hate sort of way). i also feel like there was just enough humanity in Staevan to keep him from being a caricature. the romance with Sadori felt outta the blue to me, though. and some of the plot points were weird (like why did they need a big flashy distraction at the party in the beginning when they were able to get in and out of the room without being noticed anyway?)

i didn't like the Mentor. i couldn't tell if he was supposed to be condescending or actually wise (again, i fault the writing). and i started to get irritated toward the end once Iden knew his identity but we still had to wait several chapters for what turned out to be basically a weak reveal. i remembered Lux from the series, but not enough to care that much. i did like, however, that of all of them, Iden was the one who spared a life at the end. was really surprised Del was willing to kill Piitkow but then i guess he was nearly dead anyway.

and i was afraid the giant crystal booby-heads were going to be stupid, but that final moment was actually touching--and sort of hit the nail with the warped perspective of the Dreamers: they had seen the fate of the dead as this awful final insult, but each body was treated with respect and care in the after--as they should be.

i was disappointed that the actual survivors of Jedha didn't figure in (maybe they are saving them for something else?).
we know the eggmates lived and it would have been cool to see them again here.

all-in-all, i liked this (heck, i finished, it, which is saying a lot for me since Thrawn, Catalyst, Twilight Company, and Asohka didn't make it this far).
probably if the writing hadn't been so maddening, i would have liked it a lot more.
it had plenty of genuine emotional moments and like i said before, i really like the characters.

i'd rank this one last on my list of the new EU, but i'm glad i read it and it's a fun Star Wars yarn overall. : D

I loved the novel. My only complaint was that their wasn't a lot of action and would of like to seen a few more missions with Inferno Squad. But I enjoyed all the characters and loved the chemistry between the squad. Can't wait to play as Iden in the the new game!

If any might be interested, I just finished listenin' to most recent episode (#228) of Full of Sith. Mike Bryan, Holly and guest Bria discuss, in full, about the story. Rilly Good, Deep and Wide talk about it.
I recommend (if yer a podcast listener) if yer lookin' for more perspective or different angles, thoughts or opinions on it.

The book has direct relevance to the ST era - it gives us a good look at the mindset of the people who would go on to form the First Order.

    interesting thought. i don't know.
neither, Iden, Gideon, nor Del actually strike me as FO material, but it's hard to judge since we're not in a post-Imperial (or even end-of-the-war) mindset to see how they would behave--for now they are all absolutely loyal to the Empire, it seems.
you see the more obvious spark in Rae Sloane: she's disillusioned.
and obviously in Rax as well: he believes he's been robbed of his own birthright.
those people had no love nor loyalty to the Emperor as a person or an "office"; something which the FO seems to pride itself on as well.

The First Order was created by the most fanatical and loyal members of the Empire after it fell, of which Iden and her team definitely are. We also know they do join the FO from the BFII trailer.

We no they join up with the remainder of the Imperial forces that at some point become the FO. But how much they influence that change remains to be seen. I suspect that there was some kind of civil war between the various imperial factions with the winners being what then becomes the FO.

I can see that Verso Snr would fit into the FO not sure about Inferno Squad itself. I guess we will fight no out more when the game is released.

The Game story will tell us how the rest goes... whether how many of the squad make it to the ST.
Hard part in that for me will how to... err, follow along to learn of it, as I've no PlayStation 3 or 4.
PS 2 and N64 are newest I got.

i guess that's not what i see happen in Aftermath and it's not the line we see Rax drawing for it (nor Sloane, nor Hux, nor Ren).
in fact Rax deliberately killed the critical fanatical Imperial loyalists before he was to launch into the Unknown Regions.
but we still have a lot to learn about it, i suppose.
hopefully the Phasma book will might answer some of these questions.
