Belfast to join Star Wars universe as spin-off movie comes to town..

Staff at the city's Paint Hall studios in the Titanic Quarter have been told that once production on the final series of Game Of Thrones finishes later this year, the legendary sci-fi saga will be coming to town.
Star Wars creator George Lucas was in Belfast before Christmas checking out locations for a new stand-alone film centring on the life of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi - with Ewan McGregor reprising the role he first played in 1999 prequel The Phantom Menace.
There has been speculation the film will be directed by Stephen Daldry whose hits include Billy Elliot, The Reader and hit TV series The Crown.
Movie mogul Lucas was pictured eating out in swanky Holywood restaurant Noble during his short Belfast visit. The snap led to frenzied speculation as to why he was visiting the city.
It's understood that it was to give his seal of approval to the latest Star Wars spin-off being shot in Northern Ireland - a move that will pump millions of pounds into the local economy.
Lucas spent part of his time here last November being given a guided tour of the Paint Hall studios. Paint Hall sources said Lucas was hugely impressed by the Belfast studio.
"We've been told there will be work throughout 2019 because Star Wars is coming to Belfast," said an insider.
"It was all very low key, only a few people knew that the old guy walking round the set was George Lucas. It was only when we were told about Star Wars coming here next year that it dawned on us that was why he was here before Christmas."

I would love for Lucas to be on board in an advisory position. Hell I would be excited for him to write the story with someone else handling the screenplay. Assuming this is true I wonder if we are wrong in assuming the movie would be set in the 20 year exile. What if the movie is a live action Clone Wars movie?
Ewan has aged wonderfully and can easily be made to look like he did in RotS. Get cameos out of Hayden and Samuel L. Jackson allow Ahsoka to have a brief live action debut, allow Temuera to play all the great clones like Rex. Have the plot focus on Obi Wan leading a small Jedi task force that allows for PT Jedi like Kit Fisto, Ki Adi, or Plo Koon to finally be able to shine in the movies, finally be able to bring Asajj into live action. And think of all the references they could have for the people who watched the show. I might actually prefer a Clone Wars set Obi Wan movie over a Tatooine-exile one.

Belfast definitely doesn't make me think of Tatooine, and as I've said, I can't see Obi Wan leaving that place while Luke is there. Everything we've gotten so far points to him staying there for the duration of the time between RotS and ANH.

I was hoping for a story about Obi Wan, Qui Gon, and Satine dodging warlords on Mandalore, and while Lucas gives me hope, Belfast does not, unless this is pre-devastation Mandalore (or they run to some other planet represented by Belfast).

Maybe Clone Wars, but lets do pre-Asokha. Lets actually see Anakin transition from Padawan to Knight.

this would be fantastic (esp as my office is close by and I can see the paint hall studios from it) - I imagine it would be for all the indoor sets - though there are some great beaches in northern Ireland that could be used for close up sand dunes - believe it or not a lot of the "exotic" outdoor scenes in game of thrones are also filmed in northern Ireland - amazing what a bright camera filter can do :)

I know it mentions Kenobi in the report. But it also mentions GoT. Could it actually be the 2nd new trilogy they announced, then the producers/writers (whatever they are) that are starting this new trilogy as soon as GoT has finished filming, don't have to move out of the studio?

Yeah, I kinda noticed that while all the outlets were quick to say it was the Kenobi film, there's actually no real evidence tying it to Kenobi. It's a good guess though.

It would be a crime against humanity if George doesnt write the story for this movie.
