Hey look, it's the Solo siblings(spoiler alert)! Rey is going to be quite the emotional mess when she finds out Ben is her brother.. You know, the A hole that killed their father right in front of her. Is she going to kill him in revenge or spare his life like a Jedi should?? I'm choosing the latter.

    Latest Thoughts :

So, I'm editing this to say Rey is Luke's daughter. It doesn't change my point much, just that the way Leia treated her in TFA (prob thought she was dead, but sensed it was her through the force) tells me they had a feeling it was their niece and not their daughter. There are too many clues sprinkled throughout the movie to think any other theory is right.

She'll do to him what Luke did to vader in ROTJ and Luke stops her before she can kill him so then Luke decides not to train her "initially" like toss in ESB

What makes you think that Rey is a Solo as opposed to a Skywalker? I do think that Han and Leia knew who she was, but I don't see Han and Leia as deadbeat parents... who would leave their child on Jakku. Unless Ben hid her on Jakku... even then, don't you think she would remember him... and if they dropped her off... she would remember them... even slightly?

Well, if she is a Solo then she's a Skywalker too, unless Han had the baby with someone other than Leia. haha ;) I think whomever dropped her off (wasn't Han or Leia or Luke) wanted to try and make sure she was never rediscovered or had any connection with anyone through the force. Han showed love for Rey, but more like ' I lost my little girl and you remind me of her' because he doesn't have the force, so he didn't realize it the way Leia did right away upon her arrival at the Resistance base. The emphasis JJ and crew placed on their embrace was a dead giveaway for me. He focused so much on it that he forgot about poor Chewy! (now that's an important hug)

I used to think she was Luke's child, but when it comes down to it any other parentage gets too convoluted and any major SW fan knows that SW likes to steer away from exposition as much as possible. Rey being a Solo and Ben's sister would make things VERY interesting without some giant sit down with Luke and Leia trying to explain where the F she came from. Not to mention SHE WATCHED HER BROTHER KILL THEIR FATHER!! If that doesn't make things much more interesting between the Antagonist and Protagonist I don't know what does. :)

There was also these lil hints:

Rey seeing Han as the father she 'Never had' (as Ben put it)
Rey being able to reverse force mind read and get into Ben's mind so easily.
    Anakin's lightsaber calling to her
They also resemble each other with their dark features.
Ben's overall reaction to her appearance from Jakku on.

It kind of makes sense from a narative point of view it just getting her to Jakku & not hanging Han & Liea tearing the galaxy apart trying to find her which makes me doubt she is a Solo but having her be Lukes daughter has similar problems so I have given up trying to guess who she is & just enjoy the ride

I get what you mean. I'm sort of the same, but on a narrative pov, this is the most sound if the saga is indeed about the Skywalkers. If it's Luke's daughter I'd be just as happy as long as they don't make it too convoluted and shrink the galaxy bringing even more characters we know in on her parentage like Obi-Wan and such. :)

I do believe that her parent(s) are going to be someone we know. Whether she is a Solo (I doubt that) or a Skywalker or even a Kenobi... someone (Kylo Ren) hid her away from Han,Leia and Luke on Jakku. My guess is they alll thought she was dead.

I don't think that she is a Solo because of the way that Han and Maz had their chat about her. Maz knows that she's special and asks Han about her... Don't you think that Han would know who she was after that talk (if Maz knows)? I think the easiest answer is that she is Luke's kid. Leia and Han NEVER mentioned losing another child when they talked either.

I am not saying she couldn't be Han and Leia's child, but I think they are pointing us toward Luke and maybe purposely away from Han and Leia.

I like the idea/theory that she is the grand daughter of Obi Wan... with Dutchess Satine (who had Sabine Wren in secret) And that Sabine Wren, and possibly Ezra Bridger, are the parents of Rey. It's a long shot... but I like that theory.

Well, if we're going down this route: (spoiler alert) Ren is Rey's father.

......What? He just aged really well!

'Bloodline' paints a pretty clear picture - Han and Leia only had one kid.

You're not brother and sister "like that", it's common life, dinners, laughs, joy and pains shared that make you relatives.

you could be very closer to friends to some of your brothers and sisters.

IMHO, it brings not much to the story especially when your parents are more interested by your brother than you.

I don't think they're siblings. If I was Rey I'd be very angry and start digging graves for my Skywalker family.

I'd be even happier if she were Luke's child. haha It would show that Luke is a Jedi of the new which isn't a bad thing. It would take some explaining though..More so than if she were a Solo.

The problem I have with the Kenobi theory is that shrinks the universe much more bringing in even more characters we know to explain Rey's parentage. Focusing on the Skywalkers at least shows that we are indeed focused on one family and not bringing more families we know off screen into a convoluted exposition..

Beyond having to explain who the mother is, I don’t see it as any more complicated. Jedi tradition is to divorce yourself of personal attachment. Considering the character we know from the OT, it’s pretty hard for me to imagine Luke keeping with that philosophy. His love and devotion to his friends is the principle catalyst for his motivations, which is already in contrast to the ‘old ways’.

That being said, it seems like Luke is being positioned as a surrogate father figure to Rey in this next episode. It would be an odd reveal to have him be her actual dad after that. Unless that comes out right away.
Yeah, my biggest problem is that it doesn’t address the essential question at hand. Who is the ‘family’ that Rey is waiting for? It’s not Obi-Wan. This would only be an additional layer on top of the existing mystery.

    Oh I forgot.

Han spent times with Chewie searching for his ship ... But none for Rey ? Who's gonna believe that ?

I guess the counter to that being if Han believed his make-believe daughter dead. Pretty sure this concept is just an intellectual exercise at this point.

of course anything is possible (even if this is 99.9% unlikely), but if any two people ever looked less like siblings....

Han's affection for Rey isn't particular. he has mentored many young people in a fatherly way prior to TFA (as shown in Aftermath and Bloodline).
it strikes me as more about his pain over not having a connection with his son than missing a connection with a daughter he never had.

Ridley did say in an interview that she thought her parentage was pretty obvious in TFA and was surprised that people didn't get it. Either she is a very cagey individual having fun with the fans or else she is a Skywalker or Solo. Also in the novelization for TFA, Snoke and Ren exchange a line that didn't make it onto screen to the effect of "It is her" (the missing one or the one they have been searching for).

After the way Luke and Leia were hidden from Vader and the Emperor, I don't know why people are having a hard time believing that Luke would have done the same once Snoke was revealed to be evil and had corrupted Ben. The only leap in logic is that instead of hiding her away as an infant so she wouldn't have any memory of the truth, she was mind wiped by Luke to protect her. This even makes sense when you realize how she was able to tap into the Force once she made mental contact with Kylo. She had simply reopened a door onto her early training that had been closed by Luke. And finally, why Jakku? Because there was some ancient Force artifact there that had been uncovered by the Emperor and it was a perfect shield for anyone looking for her in the Force. The couldn't see her dim presence under the overpowering glare of whatever it was that made Jakku important in the first place.

I'll have to revisit this theory after reading Empires' End, but it fits right now while not being too much of a stretch for a space opera about a single family, a prophecy, and good versus evil. I go back and forth on Solo or Skywalker, but in the end it isn't that important.

I figured Ridley was only saying that she hadn’t been told Rey’s parentage yet and came to her own conclusion watching the movie - same as us.
Leia was left with the rich and loving Organas. Luke was left with his aunt and uncle and overseen by Obi-Wan. Rey seems to have been dumped off with that creepo Unkar Plutt and left to toil in the sand for scraps of food. Does that sound like something Luke would do? That’s why people have a hard time with it.

Rey would have been 13-14 years old when Ben went totally South.
either the timeline doesn't really work out for this argument, or according to your narrative, Luke is kinda awful for making Rey believe she was abandoned and suffered for 9-10 years on Jakku--and then actually made her suffer for at least 5 or 6 of additional years. in a world where Princess Leia was a teenaged Senator and Padme a teenager Queen, consider that this is very backwards to think Rey needed to be treated this way.

    @FN-3263827 and @eeprom

Both excellent points and why I find this sort of speculation so fun. With a few notable exceptions, no one seems to be able to predict what is going on and I am not discounting the creative mind benders someone like RJ is able to come up with. I never saw the end of Looper coming :) But I still don't think we'll stray too far from the Space Opera, family, and specifically daddy issues
