I'd much rather see a rebooted Thrawn who takes over after the failure of TFA baddies. BDL has the face and voice to be an awesome Thrawn. I can see Rian Johnson as an EU/Legends fan

I may be way off-base but how good of a villain is/could BDL be? I can't recall seeming him play one but I haven't seem too many of his films. At first, I was actually confusing him with Javier Bardem, who I love as a baddie.

He was a great Pablo Escobar even if the movie was lacking. Javier Bardem is a fantastic villain but him and Benicio Del Toro are equally skilled actors with similar charisma

OK. Thanks for the information. We'll just have to wait and see if he is offered/accepts the role.

Benicio Del Toro would make a great villain in ANY capacity. He can do a Sith or a military commander. I imagine he'd be playing a Peter Cushing type of role as one of the central villains, but not necessarily THE villain. It would be badass if he turned out to be THE Sith master for the trilogy though.

As I said earlier.. Del Toro is an amazing actor.. But I don't really know how I feel about him being in Star Wars.

    Let me explain:

The whole point of Star Wars is that it was a long time ago.. in a galaxy far, far away..

This means we feel on some level that we shouldn't recognise certain faces as it ruins the feeling of Star Wars films.

For example when you see the prequels it looks v.strange seeing Samuel L Jackson, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Christoper Lee.. dare I even see Ewan Mcgregor in these films. They are so famous and recognisable!

We don't have this problem with TFA:

Boyega and Ridley are virtual unknowns.
Isaac, Driver, Christie, Gleeson (etc) have the same fairly low profiles that Ford (pre ROTJ ((Blade Runner/Indiana Jones)) ), Hamill and Fisher had!
Andy Serkis and Oscar winner Nyong'o are CGI so you won't see them in human form.
Even Von Sydow who despite being a legend is 90 now will fall out of the reticular activation system of most modern audiences.

These characters and actors make you feel that it is the first time you are seeing them which should be the case in the Star Wars universe and a major Plus point for the original series and The Force Awakens.

I remember when Daniel Craig got the part of James Bond, before accepting the offer, he called Spielberg whom he had worked with before to ask him metaphorically if he would ever hire him again knowing he would be James Bond. Spielberg said yes.. but the reason this was a potential problem was because Craig would be so recognisable as James Bond in any other movie he makes, that some directors wouldn't cast him so as to not ruin the mythology/perception/look of the movie.

Anyway this is just food for thought. I was a big fan of the Usual Suspects and Che.. but not sure if he is right for the films unless it is done in a way like I described with Serkis/Nyong'o or he is used in another clever way. I am hopeful.. but just cautiously optimistic.

I can't see Kylo Ren getting killed off in TFA ... he is the centerpiece of all marketing it seems. They are setting him up to be iconic.

Is Serkis signed up for anything beyond TFA? There were the rumors early on of Kylo Ren killing hie master.

At the time the PT started Portman was known only for the professional. She became a house hold name after TPM as did knightingly. McGregor was about as known as Oscar is now. Oscar and Gleason are becoming well known fast, they have both done a lot lately so too with driver. As noted the OT had a few big names much like the PT. The ST is doing what the PT and OT did. Casting up and coming talent and mixing in veteran talent.

P.s. Joel Edgerton (Uncle Owen) is about to be a huge star. He held his own against Christian Bale snd Jason Batman.

I agree. Especially after reading the EW article it really looks like their setting him up as the new Vader.

I think BDT's casting says more about General Hux's fate than Kylo Ren's.

I'll say it again I feel confident in guessing that he will play Kylo Ren's old master in the Knights of Ren

Wasn't BDL in Wolfman, I heard he was great in that? Any chance he's lined up to play a non-human (make-up/costumed) villain? That would be different....
