This isn't so much about their roles/performances in Star Wars
But just based on the talent displayed in their careers. Just to look at the scope of talent the franchise has added over the 40 years of existence.

Who are your top 5 actors or actresses to have been in the Star Wars films
    (Ep 1-8, R1, Han Solo)

    Mine:

    5. Harrison Ford
    4. Natalie Portman
    3. Benincio Del Toro
    2. Adam Driver
    1. Sir Alec Guiness

I didn't count BDT because we haven't seen him in the movie yet but he will most definitely be in the top 3.

runners up (in no particular order) Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Harrison Ford, and Mark Hamill for his phenomenal voice work.

and mad respect for our newbies: Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, and Domhnall Gleeson.
i also think our Rey and Finn might make this list as well some day.

Big big few years for Daisy coming up. She has a few big films coming out and her performance in those could really decide her immediate legacy

yep! and i think Finn's got the chops too if he can get the right roles.
Isaac has already impressed in Inside Llewyn Davis and Ex Machina, Driver was disgustingly good in Paterson and Hungry Hearts, and honestly, i can't say Gleeson has ever sucked in anything (Hux's Starkiller speech may be the weakest thing I've ever seen him do, and i think he was just badly directed in it, frankly). he always surprises me. these are actors who are not going to go on churning out franchise stuff.

Driver, Isaac and Gleeson are always prepped to win awards in any performance. So talented. If you haven't seen A MOST VIOLENT YEAR with Oscar Isaac, it's phenomenal as well.

Driver's performance in PATERSON might be one of my all time favorites.

Boyega has DETROIT coming out this year too. Could be a massive boost for him as well.

ooo, i need to see A Most Violent Year!

Paterson was definitely my no. 1 movie last year. i could just follow that guy around for hours (and we did! hahaha). every now and then for no reason at all i think about that great moment in the bar when the guy gets all crazy about the ex-girlfriend. Driver's expression in that moment alone was more than Oscar worthy. he was also really good in Silence, but his role was too small.

can't wait to see Detriot as well. i really love Boyega; he's amazing! don't get to love on Finn enough here. : D

SILENCE could have easily had three actors nominated. Garfield, Driver and Neeson.

The Finn thread is toxic as it gets. Until DETROIT is here, watch ATTACK THE BLOCK and IMPERIAL DREAMS on repeat

Neeson was stupidly good in Silence. his best role in a long time.
i still feel torn about Garfield and his performance.
i gotta watch it again, but it's kinda painful to put yourself through ~ hahaha

i'm gonna watch A Most Violent Year tonight. will see if i can find the other two soon.
yeah, poor sad Finn thread. i'd guess more than half of my neutral ratings (and probably a couple of my negatives) come from that one thread alone ~ hahahaha

The accent is off with Garfield but the performance is great IMO.

You will have a whole new appreciation for the talent LFL and Disney have brought to Star Wars...

I don't know who are the best actors and actresses in the saga. I doubt that anyone really knows. This is all just a matter of preference.

In no particular order (is there an echo in here?)

    Sir Alec Guiness
    Peter Cushing
    Ian McDiarmid
    Adam Driver

Good lord that was hard, though. I usually don't consider Star Wars to be all that well acted of a film (not bad, just not particularly groundbreaking) but there truly has been some talent in this franchise. Special shoutouts to Hammil, McGregor, Neeson, Gleeson, and Fischer, too.

    Ian McDiamid
    Mark Hammil
Adam Driver (shouldn't be in my list after only 1 film.. but i think he was that good)
    Harrison Ford
James Earl Jones & Frank Oz (yeah i know sneaky to have 6 in my list but i couldn't separate them lol)

can't believe nobody has Hammil in their list.. seems he is destined to be overlooked forever :(

McGregor was clearly a shining light in the PT, but i still think what he did was well within himself.. i'm expecting more in a Kenobi movie!

In no order, Alec Guinness, Liam Neeson, James Earl Jones, Peter Cushing, and Ewan McGregor have my votes.

And a very honorable mention to Andy Serkis, whose talent I hope is not wasted moving forward with Snoke.
