I agree. I love the plot, the characters, and I really appreciate the fact that we got an ending with “the bad guys” winning. We always see the protagonists saving the galaxy or something like that. I mean, in the end of TESB Han was in carbonite and in the hands of the empire. And Luke had learned a horrible truth and had lost one of his hands. It set up for ROTJ quite well too.

Agreed! This is something I think the new films were lacking, rather than make a fantastic story, they just focused on pleasing the mass audience. They wanted to throw away the old and start something completely new. And it was at the expense of the last 6 films. Don't get me wrong, from a film making perspective, the Disney movies were brilliant. But sadly, I can't say the same to the character development and story.

That is a common complaint about the ST’s too. They are good films, yes. But like you said, the character development wasn’t equal to that of Anakin in the PT and Luke in the OT. Although, I do have to say TFA was one of my more liked films. Since it was basically a re write of ANH, I loved it. I just wished Finn got more development from there. I feel he was just used as a side supporting character and nothing more.

Yeah. TFA was really good. But I felt they played it safe by keeping it similar to ANH. I was really looking forward to seeing something brand new (which I now have got from the Mandalorian show lol)

Thats a good point with TFA and ANH. With a whole new trilogy, they wanted to ensure that the majority of people would be pleased. Since everyone loves ANH, they kept it safe and decided to make TFA really similar. I was looking forward to some new stuff in the movie, but whenever I get a new planet, character, or whatnot, Im pretty satisfied either way :)

Yeah without a doubt, it's why GL made SW so successful. He was an innovator.

I am a prequel kid, having seen TPM as my first Star Wars movie in cinema. ROTS was the best movie of that trilogy and my favourite SW movie. However, I think some of the best Star Wars scenes took place as the Luke-Rey-Kylo storyline of The Last Jedi, but I thought the other stories of that movie were relatively boring. A New Hope has nostalgic value, as it was the very first one, with the TESB as the best movie of that trilogy. I think overall the original trilogy was the best trilogy of the three.

I fully concede Empire is the best movie. but rotj is my favorite cuz it was the movie that introduced me to star wars when i was a kid. i was 4 when it came out and the years i was growing up all the toys i ever saw in stores were jedi toys.

I agree with you. Not a fan of ESB because it gave me mixed feelings. From this perspective, Revenge of the Sith and a New Hope are much more meaningful and strong. I especially liked the characters and the evolving of Skywalker into the dark person. I liked the fact that his dark side was developed gradually, and not after one event.

Truthfully, I think the best films in the franchise are the original three –– in the eyes of many, every story in Star Wars, regardless of its place on the canon timeline, will always follow those three films. (And quite honestly, they’re nearly impossible to top.)

However, my favorite three are Return of the Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi, so I voted for them. :)

It's refreshing to see that TLJ is among the top favs, despite such a bad rep it's gotten.

I think Rian Johnson tried to do something new, but unfortunately these days we have social media.

He did? I went away with the feeling that he was simply trying to copy some aspects of Lucas' story.
