i think the Emperor should probably be in that list.. seeing that he took on 4 Jedi at the same time (and personally i've never once considered that he actually lost the duel with Windu after killing the other 3 Jedi)

I went with Yoda because we saw him fight 2 powerful Sith lords, and they both bottled it against him.

my second choice of who was best with a light saber isn't in the list... R2 !!

I initially had the Emperor on the list but then it would only let me do a certain amount of options, so I took him out since he doesn't actually use the light saber very much. But you're right, he did take on 4 at once. I do consider Windu beating him though.

You forgot Dooku. He's or was considered to be the best duelist.

Other then that I picked Anakin and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan mainly because it's canon that he has the best defense in the whole Jedi Order. It's also the reason why he could keep up with Anakin on Mustafar.

Anakin because we get to see him fight with dual light sabers for a bit.

I personnally HATED that moment Palpatine took out a saber from nowhere. I thought it did not make sense : Palpatine was the (upcoming) Emperor, and the Emperor so far always used force lightnings and not a saber at all.

I gotta go with Anakin/Vader because when you look at the vast amount and variety of different opponents he's fought and beaten it's seriously impressive, plus he survived some losses against very skilled fighters so he gains even more respect for that.

He beat and killed Dooku and Obi-Wan plus a huge amount of other Jedi during the purge-many of whom were high-ranking masters, he almost killed Ahsoka who was a master of saber combat at that point, he disarmed the great Mace Windu with ease, Made Kanan and Ezra look useless plus he managed to knock down Sabine when he deflected her blaster bolts and he toyed with Luke on Cloud City...I could go on and on.

Yeah...I hate Palpatine with saber, same to Yoda.

    I choose Luke, btw.

It's hard to judge, because lightsaber proficiency is kind of a movie thing... In the sense that the approach to fight choreography differs a lot across trilogies. So if we're taking into consideration mainly what we see on screen, I think a cross-era comparison is a bit unfair. Hell, it's tricky even within one movie - Mace and Sidious fight like two grandpas compared to Anakin and Obi-Wan and I'm not sure that should be the case on paper.

That being said, I'd probably choose Anakin based on movies alone. As for era specific - PT: Anakin/Yoda, OT: Luke, ST: I wanna say Kylo, because we've seen him do some incredible stuff (and he's my personal favourite fighter) but it's probably Luke, since Kylo didn't even manage to hit him and I assume it takes some serious combat skills to dodge Kylo's attacks like it was nothing :p.

it's a little bit snarky :p I would prefer to say "Mace and Sidious have the wisdom of the elders, as Anakin and ObiWan both share the passion of youth".... :) :) (no pun intended for you @srg)

but it's true : when you jump from the fight between Anakin and Obiwan at the end of EP3 right to their next fight as Vader and Ben in EP4, well it's..... erm... okay, they've aged, but seriously there's a gap!
When Lucas re-edited the OT, he should have *just a little bit* speed up that sequence - just a little bit.

I also want to say Palpatine because of how (seemingly) easily he killed three Jedi. That fight always looked awkward to me, especially Palpatine's movements and the faces and noises he made. I giggled a little when I saw it the first time. Regarding the poll, if there was only so much space, why include Kylo Ren and Rey? I don't remember them doing much with lightsabers that looked impressive, at least not compared to others.

I'm going against the grain and will probably get flack for this, but no one wields a lightsaber like Adam Driver, so I'm going with Kylo Ren. He's not the most artful, but he hurls it like he's trying to cut the victim in half and I love the brutality of it, tbh.
