Biggest plot twist of Episode VIII

i wouldn't really consider that a plot twist more of just one giant question. A plot twist is when something hits you completely unexpectedly and changes the curse of the story. Example: Darth Vader being Luke's dad was a plot twit because it completely changed the outlook on each character and the course of the story for ROTJ

 

lol, i was gonna say "great minds think alike"... but i'm not sure anyone that knows us on here would buy it

I think it would be Rey's heritage as it's expected but I would sure like to see Rey and Kylo switching sides.

 

One potential major plot twist I had come up with this:

In his post-Return of the Jedi efforts to reacquire Jedi artifacts, lore, Force-centric wisdom, and perhaps even forbidden knowledge concerning the Sith / Dark Side, Luke Skywalker unwittingly reawakens an ancient Dark Side entity who perhaps (as has now been suggested in various forms elsewhere in this form) draws upon Luke's Force energy to achieve revivification.

That entity being Snoke, and Luke having indirectly created such a monster by going a little to far in a semi-Faustian style pursuit of Force knowledge.

This then could help account for Luke's sadness, possible (and understandable) shame, and otherwise curious withdrawal to Ahch-To.

But that is quite a stretch, a stretch perhaps too far, and personally I would much rather Luke Skywalker be more a part of the solution rather than the problem that is Snoke.

 

That is brilliant, I love it, no one would see it coming!....but then again, we need someone to be 100% light in this trilogy, and if not Luke, then who?....but it would be so awesome!

 

Yes, I can almost see a parallel between Han's wistful look whilst telling that story and Obi-Wan's when telling Luke how Vader had killed his father.

Down the line perhaps we may see them both as "from a certain point of view" moments, and from the nuance of the Mr Ford's delivery, there's arguably room for that to be played as a "twist" moment.

 

Using the word "boy" certainly left a little wriggle room - Ben Solo would be in his mid 20's at this point.

It's more than likely meant to be Kylo, but you never know.

 

I was just thinking this the other day. How, Luke could have awoken something (Snoke) and Snoke came in and destroyed everything Luke had done/created after Jedi and turned his nephew and apprentice against him and the other Jedi-in-training.

I find it kind of amusing that we are talking about our expectations of an aspect of the film that should come as the least expected. Speaking of my hopes: since a bulk of action will take place on the planet where the First Jedi Temple was most likely placed it's safe to assume that we'll explore the history of Force users and their interactions between each other. It might not be anything earth-shattering, but still may substantially alter the way we see the Jedi Order.

 

I just hope that whatever the twist is, it doesn't feel forced. I'm a little concerned that, because of TESB, they felt compelled to include a twist. But inserting a twist just for the sake of having one doesn't usually turn out very well. Just look at the collective works of M Night Shyamalan. With big reveals there's a fine line between making the audience gasp, and making them groan.

 

The biggest plot twist would be if Rian J pulled off the Dallas dream trick. You kidz probably don't know what I talk about so here is a resume: The popular character Bobby Ewing was once hit by a car and killed off. But a whole season later Bobby's death (and everything else that happened during the season) turned out to be a nightmare on Pam's part.

So .. Something like this:

Opening scene: Rey hands over the saber. Luke seem to faint and all goes black.

Next scene: Hoth. Snowstorm. A young CGI Mark Hamill awakens. CGI Harrison Ford approaches, riding a CGI Taun Taun.

And then it's open season. The events of TESB, ROTJ and beyond was just a dream.

 

Don't think we'll get anything on Snoke too revealing until IX (or perhaps a hint at him being Gallius Rax in Empire's End, you know?), not anything plot twisty about the Force. Adding to the lore is great, but exposition/world-building =/= plot twist, even if it's something like the First Temple on Ahch-To being the place where the Chosen One was prophesied.

As for Rey, in my mind she's either Luke's daughter or a complete unknown, so no real plot twist there.

So please let there be something else, like Finn being a sleeper agent!

 

Kylo Ren will begin to return to the light side of the force.

 

Snoke will reveal that he is Plaugueis and will start the hunt for Rey. He will be seducing the crap out of her in the movie.

I agree wholeheartedly with both of these statements. Everyone is expecting a huge twist, I guess because ESB had one. But the prequels did not have a bit plot twist. If there is not one in the ST, I think a lot of people will be disappointed. But I don't want them to force one in just for the sake of it. They have already set up the mystery of Rey's parentage to be a big deal. I think that only has the potential to disappoint a lot of people no matter how it turns out.

 

It will be something we have yet to see but when we do its not we believe to be our first thought. Also why do we believe the twist to be around rey and kylo perhaps that's the twist in itself and it has nothing to do with that side of the story.

 

That's not a plot twist. It just fact
