I feel that it is Vader. He can survive for short periods with his mask off. Possibly that is the Emperor in the tank. It could be that he has to soak in it from time to time due to the force lightning damage that he took.

 

I'm really wondering how this scene will proceed. If there is a someone in that mist like substance (bacta tank, yes, perhaps) will that someone have any dialogue or be seen? I'm not so sure. What if all we know is the person kneeling is going to see that someone, perhaps we know who the someone is and what the conversation will be about, but maybe we don't get to view it.

Could this be the equivalent of the Knights of Ren in the Force Awakens trailer, where we already have all that there is to see?

If there is someone in a bacta tank I'm not sure they are going to show that someone being as vulnerable as we see Luke in Empire. I mean the vulnerability will be implied but I don't think we are seeing Palpatine or Vader (for isntance) in their underwear. That's why if it's a bacta tank I'm just not seeing how this scene will proceed.

 

My guess is that the cloaked figure is Vader. They're going to want to sell some new toys. Adding a hood to the classic Vader suit ought to do it.

As for the smoke-filled column, since this is supposed to be a pretty straightforward war film -- or at least a straightforward heist film in a war setting -- I think this scene will end up being pretty uncomplicated. The column will probably rise into the ceiling, spilling its smoky contents. Out of the mist, Palpatine will emerge. It's just a cool visual and a new way for revealing Palpatine.

 

Why is everyone saying its a bacta tank? Nothing else in the scene says "medical bay"; and why have steps like that up to what basically amounts to a sickbed?
Looks more like some kind of contained energy field to me. Perhaps some kind of hitherto unknown teleport device. Or its something sacred/unholy which would account for the steps.

Because it resembles a bacta tank. But for that matter it also resembles the carbon freezing chamber on bespin. All three of them have thick hoses leading from the sides to a tank/apparatus.

I agree with you, however. I don't think it's a bacta tank. Yesterday I might have said maybe, now I think highly unlikely. It is almost like a bacta tank filled with smoke/air of some sort. I still think it's function could be medical.. and we do know of a character that could use an infusion of a healing air to help him breathe. But you make good points as to why it isn't medical.

I feel like the steps up to it, and the guards guarding it, make people think someone is in there. That and it kinda looks like a bacta tank. I hope we don't get teleportation in star wars.

 

Most likely the last Inquisitor, played by Mads Mikkelson. He will die towards the end so there are less force users by ANH.

No, I'm 99.9999% sure you said it. I referenced the Lando comic, which has jack to do with Plagueis.

 

I'm kinda liking the idea of this cloaked guy being Forest. In the trailor he comes across as the wise, experienced, advice giver, with all his lines about 'what will you do when they catch you? What will you do when they break you' ect. Well , it certainly makes one wonder how he got to be so knowledgeable about the Empire. Did he get caught and broken by the Empire, is that how he speaks with such authority on the matter? Is he now working for the Empire in some capacity, unbeknownst to the Rebels? It could be a cool/cruel twist. And if he is working undercover for the Empire, he would need a good disguise cloak so nobody recognises him going to report to Palps.

Speaking of Palps, I reckon that room is his own personal Imperial bacta day spa, and he's in the middle of a facial, and that's why it's so steamy. Good for the pores. Unfortunately, he's been interrupted by his undercover spy with important news about the Rebels upcomming plans to steal his DS plans. Let's hope Palps plans for 'me' time aren't completely ruined by the news, and he still has time for the hot stone massage afterwards.

Not really. This would likely be within a year or two of when we last see her on Malachor.

I don't think it's her, but the timing works.

 

The other problem is that actually, she seems a lot of less injured than Vader. People seems to forget how strong the padawan was. There's not many jedis who could battle Greevous on one to one at 14.
