Boba Fett? Where?

True, why change the actor, especially if it's set in the run-up to ANH?

 

I like Fassbender a lot, he is definitely one of my fav actors, but he doesn't sit well to me with Boba Fett character.
I would love to see Temuera Morrison or even Daniel Logan in the worse case scenario. Mandalorians are Maori!!
And I like them that way! (Or at least this pair of Bounty Hunters).

Also, it would be stupid to change the canon this radicaly. I know it would please the Prequel haters, but what else?
Temuera was great as clones and Fett Sr.

 

Just a technicality but Jango Fett is NOT Mandalorian and by extension neither are the clones or Boba Fett. This has been stated several times from Dave Filoni (from George Lucas.)

Totally agree with the Temura part. As for Filoni and his explanation, I dig it, works well with Mandalorians of TOR and all. I do like making Jango and Boba special, so maybe Jango undertakes his own prophecy, or has a vision, to split from the peaceful Mandalorians and militaristic Death Watch, and create his own code and law, which would then allow Boba to be an anti-hero like his father. Just an idea

 

Hiring someone in their acting prime like Fassbender also doesn't scream "Star Wars" to me. Sounds more like a fan scenario. I think if it's not Morrison or someone that looks and sounds like him I will be disappointed.

 

I'm unsure how I feel about the mantle part of it... it would take away from the character and make him feel cheap. For his survival, it has always been more-or-less accepted by the fan base that he got out of the Sarlacc due to his contraptions and all that jazz. So for the most part I think they could stick with something similar and face minimal griping.

As for the actor, well, you don't have to have some big name do it. You don't need Temuera Morrison either, but certainly someone who at least someway fits the bill, if we see him with his helmet off. I'm not going to scour through actors to find other possibilities that would be a better fit than Michael Fassbender (who I do love in what he's been in by the way)... frankly because it's someone's job to get it right. This would feel like a mistake, with or without the story change.

That said, I could see Fassbender as playing a Mandalorian-armored bounty hunter, just another one of a different name. Not Boba Fett specifically. Possibly even some relation to the Vizslas. He'd fit that role perfectly to be honest, were they to continue with that line in some form.

 

If he never takes his helmet off then Morrison could do the voice and you could have a stunt guy similar to ESB

 

Much as I dig The Princess Bride and all, I just don't see how it's going to work to set up a thing where anyone with the suit and the ship can call themselves Boba Fett.

If they do a movie about him in parallel with TFA, then he needs to be a grizzled old bounty hunter, just like Han Solo will be a grizzled old former smuggler. The whole "forever 35 years old" thing just sounds gimmicky as all get-out to me, and agree that this Fassbender rumor sounds like something a fan dreamed up.

 

I could see Fassbender being an imposter of Boba Fett, not actually passing the "Fett" mantle onto anyone else. Keep the real Fett dead and this guy took his place when he heard he died on Tatooine.

 

Isn't that an old Star Wars RPG Boba Fett bit from back in the '80s? What was the "fake Fett's" name, Jodo Kast or something like that?

I mean, they could certainly do the imposter thing, but... I dunno, it seems like it'd fall a bit flat. I could be wrong, though.

 

I think Fett had a fake name in the old EU post-RotJ. But they retconned it to be the name of Jango Fett's mentor or something.

 

I think you're both right. The Jodo Kast thing I remember specifically though because I had to look him up after 'discovering' him as a hidden character in Masters of the Teräs Käsi back in the day.

I could kind of see Fassbender doing it if it's meant to be an imposter and not "passing on the torch" as suggested originally. They'd have to make that clear though, and explain why "Fett" has either returned after 30 years, or been active in that time, and what people thought. Seems like too much work. And we also have the rumor of a "fake Vader" to deal with at that.

I vote "just another bounty hunter wearing some Mando armor" if they were to even consider it.

I had that same sort of feeling in TCW. Seeing Death watch fight like an army, Mandalore itself, and Satine and Mandalore Protectirs really supported this. Can't wait for a novel or something about Satine and the super commandos and Obi-Wan

 

Having a friend take up the mantle is a nice little twist BUT that is NOT what the rumor has been. As a ret-con Disney wants someone to KILL Boba Fett and usurp his identity. According to this highly dubious rumor Disney doesb't like the Fetts as they were created by George and wants rto turn him into a Good guy.

 

Im sure will learn more about this bounty hunter in his spin-off movie.
