Discussion in 'Random Discussion' started by GingerByte, Sep 5, 2016.

?

Has a book, film, or TV show cracked your "tough person" persona yet?

  1. Yes, I'm a phony. It's all an act!

Now, I'm not saying that I'm a "tough guy" or anything, but I almost never get emotionally attached when it comes to books, TV shows, or films. And in the rare instance it does happen, then it's usually tears of joy. So, if I do end up 'wallowing in misery', then I believe that the filmmakers have done an exceptionally good job :).

My question is what books, films, or TV shows have manged to crack your "tough person" persona and as a result of this made you cry? Oh, and it can't be Star Wars, that's cheating :p.

The most recent example for me it's the Australian film Red Dog... ...and that was 2013.
    Red Dog.jpg
After the dog's current owner is killed in a motorcycle accident, Red Dog travels Australia searching for his owner. He helps out lots of people along the way and you start to feel good inside. Then he finds his master's grave and dies next to it.
Way to kick us "tough people" in the balls when our defences have been lowered! Had me bawling like a baby :D.

Also, screw you miner who poisoned and killed Red dog in real-life !

Inside Out. Probably more for the fellow fathers of young kids out there, but man if that movie didn't make me bawl like a baby.

    bawl, people.
to "ball" as a verb means something...er...else.

i don't typically cry easy at movies and it's been a long time since i did. i'd have to say maybe The English Patient was the last movie that made me openly weep.
but that was during a kind of rough period in my life, so i'm sure that contributed to it ~ hahaha.

TFA very nearly almost made me cry. ROTJ did, but i was 12 then.

I saw Joy Luck Club in the theater many years ago. There wasn't a dry eye in the house leaving that one. One of the guys was this tough looking biker dude, with red puffy eyes and a tissue. I will never forget that guy.

"Live Together, Die Alone," Boone's death, Claire's baby birth, Shannon + Sayid, the very last shot of the series, etc.

"Not Penny's Boat". That one still gets me.

Edit: Also if we're on early 21st century TV, "Would you like me to lie to you now?" from the last episode of Angel. Any fan of the show will know what I'm talking about. Those may be the only times in recent memory that TV really got me choked up.

True "tough" people make books, TV shows and films cry.

And I'm about as "tough" as they come.

Lol, I even made a joke about the movie when the dog was dying and got this stern look of disapproval from one of my BFF, who was quite sobbing. But hey, it's maybe because I am not a dog person.

TFA breaks me in that certain scene. Every. Single. Time.

When i first saw that movie, the first thing I did was go hug and kiss my dogs (brothers) and then sleep next to them in the garage in a dogpile.

    Yeah, me too.

Oh that... I sense a tear or two running down from my eye about 5 or 6 times each time I watch it.

Otherwise, Crimson Peak (at the very end), Harry Potter 7 part 2 (the procession and the 19 years latter scenes), Cool Runnings (during the last run), Space Pirate Captain Harlock (after a death), The Theory of Everything, The Imitation Game, Young Sherlock Holmes (after a death too) and the first one: Thor the Dark World!
