Those fights in II and III lack emotional depth. Episode III's fight should have had this depth, but it didn't. Only when Anakin is taken out does the fight......and the movie redeem itself somewhat....in my opinion..:p

Personally, the closest to hard hitting parts of the Anakin and Obi Wan fight are when they stop swinging their sabers and talk. The talk right before the fight isn't totally terrible, even with Lucas's dialogue. Same with Obi Wan's anguish at the end

And this shot was actually pretty cool.

But yeah, some scenes in that fight really were too... much. I can't even really think of a word, so "much" will have to suffice.

And I can't find a gif right now, but the Tarzan swinging on the big floating platform, too.

Yeah it had some amazing shots and great potential. Obi Wan's monologue scene at the end is beautiful.

You're not wrong, but I wish I could say that was the only problem I found with them. The pictures cawatrooper posted are a perfect example of the ridiculousness of the light saber fights in the latter two prequels. They were just so big and dumb.

Tried to watch this movie again yesterday. I wouldn't say it stinks but it's pretty bad paced. We spent too much time on Tatooine. That podrace scene takes 20 minutes of screentime! Not even Vader has that much screen time in ANH.

I wonder if TPM the best movie to introduce kids to Star Wars. It's colourful, has exotic and beautiful planets, a kid character to relate to and bad guy soldiers, who can be massacred in hundreds and it won't look violent.

I will never forget the overly enthusiastic guy wearing a full stormtrooper costume in the cinema queue my family and I went to see TPM in July 1999. The stormtrooper fan went in, sat in his seat at the back, quietly watched the film with his helmet on. Occasionally I would peep back over my shoulder to see what he was doing. His helmet eventually came off and there was a huge look of disappointment on his face. He looked old enough to have a kid when the OT was originally released in the 70s and 80s. After the film was over he looked soooooooo gutted. He walked out slowly and silently shaking his head and seemed not to care any more. I had already read the novel of the film. Maybe I should have told him that there weren't going to be any stormtroopers in The Phantom Menace....

That is the biggest memory of TPM that I have. TPM was okay, not thebest thing I'd ever seen, but not the worst either. It still amuses me to this day 19 years later.

Ironically, I felt like the stormtrooper guy after watching the TLJ late last year....

Sounds like Maul received the Boba Fett syndrome to me. Let's be honest, Boba Fett is only popular because he looked cool. Old EU stores just expanded on it. I personally put Episode 1 over Episode 2. Episode 2 is the only SW movie that I constantly have to press the skip scene button.

Well, At least we didn't send an 9 year old actor death threats and caused tamper tandems when Episode 1 came out and pretty much made George sell off SW. The OT are great movies but don't act like they are Macbeth or Citizen Cain.

*Millennial who grew up with Pre-Special Edition OT on VHS before seeing the PT and is a huge Wedge Antilles fan.*

Oh man... that was painful to read.

I really do feel bad for people like that, but honestly I think it's mainly just sad that they so quickly let themselves lose something that was clearly so dear to them.

Things like this makes you question what do you (or anyone) actually loves about Star Wars? If one movie like TPM and TLJ is enough to make people go from love to hate, then maybe some people are just putting too much emotional investment into something, that can't possibly pay it back.

Nothing that you wrote has any resemblance to reality. No one sent death threats to Jake Lloyd. George Lucas sold Star Wars a full 13 years after the film came out. And I have no idea what a temper tandem is. No, the OT isn't Shakespeare. They are well-made, popular films that generally everyone likes. The prequels didn't need to be brilliant, or even as good as the OT. They just needed to not be the cringe-inducing hot garbage that they were.

And people need to stop expressing their opinions as facts. I don't give a blast that you dislike the PT, the OT or the ST for that matter. But I do get sick and tired of people making these kind of pronouncements as if they were stating a fact. I find it arrogant and manipulative.

If anyone wants to express their opinions of any of these movies, could they at least stop pretending that their opinions are facts?

I'll bite... Probably gonna regret jumping into this one, but oh well.

TPM, like the entire PT, has moments. Some decent ideas. Personally I like the politics, the idea that the Sith Lord is the chancellor at the end of the episode I. But, George REALLY needed to get in a guy who could direct actors AND get someone who was willing to tell him the script was crap. I mean, the dialogue was atrocious throughout the PT. "Yippee!", "Now THIS is pod racing!" "Anakin, you're breaking my heart!" Just bad.

The performances Lucas found acceptable? Give me a break. It's like he just said okay after one or two takes and moved on. And he had some fantastic actors signed on for the PT. Ewan Macgregor, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson, Samuel L. Jackson, all are fantastic actors. That Lucas screwed the pooch with every single one of them is just beyond acceptable.

The good thing about the PT? I agree, the duels are fantastic, as is the music. I love the way the final showdown between Darth Maul and the Jedi goes down, especially the way it starts. That's an awesome scene.

Anyway, I'm not sure there is a need to beat the PT over the head. It is what it is. Thankfully Star Wars has moved on. And I'm not going to even get started on the stupidity of the midichlorians.

Star Wars has moved on to what? Crap? Because that is what it seems to me. With the exception of "Rogue One", Disney has produced nothing but crap in my eyes.

And we will agree to disagree on that one my friend. I don't want to sit here and bash the PT, but there was no where to go but up from that mess. Did it have some good things? Sure. The music was fantastic. The light saber duels were awesome as well. Unfortunately the rest of it was absolute garbage. The acting... sheesh. Lucas wasted some amazingly talented actors. Its almost as if he had never directed actors in his life, or just couldn't be bothered. The dialogue? I could go on but what's the point? You obviously like the PT and I obviously despised the PT. We aren't going to agree and we aren't going to change the other's mind so what's the point of this?

Please tell me when I suggested my opinion was undisputed fact. It's implied that what a person writes here is their opinion. It doesn't need to be stated every time that it is, indeed, an opinion. It should be obvious.
