    Great article. I agree.

It is new and fresh and takes things to a whole new place. It's familiar and breaks new ground. It's still Star Wars, and honestly it should have came first, not that I dislike TFA because I love that one but because it would've started it from the beginning. But in context, I understand why TFA came first and had to.

The same old, same old would have been just straight up catering. Rian loves Star Wars in my opinion and took it in a different direction cause it needs to. People like to quote what Mark said, but forget the rest of what he said. He did embrace it too. He also disagreed with Irwin Kirshner too.

I seen what Rian was doing. Twice I've seen it. He's basically saying you'll never recapture the days of old. This movie is a death and resurrection of the new.

I can't wait to see this film again. It sets up a lot of great things for the future and I expect JJ will have a lot of fun closing this story out.

It's going to be pretty challenging for them to tie things up. And I am so curious to how this trilogy will will look like when it's over. Very happy with it so far.

Rian definitely took a shot at burning SW to the ground and he mostly managed to do so - but in the worst way possible imo. He took the Marvel movie template and applied it to SW. He made a movie with inconsequential plot threads (Canto), awful special effects (Canto horse chase and Mary Poppins Leia), and shockingly lazy and cliche movie tropes including “poor children working in stables”, decoder rings, and “wealthy people are evil”. He threw out everything the character of Luke was and made him something entirely different and dumb.

Had this been the first movie in RJ’s stand-alone SW trilogy with all new characters, I would have shrugged my shoulders a little bit and moved on. But in this case I think RJ almost completely screwed up this trilogy.

He's ruined the entire saga. Making Rey random makes everything the Skywalkers did unnecessary.

So basically the movie was so terrible that it made it artsy and good. Ok..... or it was just terrible.

It means any body can take down an Empire & like our good friend Brad Bird said "When everyone is super none of us are".

Bad, bad, bad, bad, just a nobody bad.

It's like when people defended BvS by saying Zack Snyder just wanted to deconstruct our icons. Well, ****, nobody asked for that.

If you want the same story told over and over again, then just watch the original trilogy. Luke saved the Jedi order from the Sith and now Rey can restore the Jedi order thanks to Luke. I'm not sure what her DNA has to do with anything.

I dont think it is entirely bad, the movie shows a more powerful side of a jedi and how great is the force. Honestly, it isnt a bad movie at all. If it does seem too much of the original thn it wouldnt be nice as fans would just be watching something they really expected. TLJ has twists but some were predictable ( for the ones who have done researches )

I wasn't aware that filmmakers need permission to do what they do. That would honestly hinder the creative process, imo.

I don't see the article as making that point at all.

In all of Star Wars exactly one family has shown tight connections like this to the force. Yet people have applied it to be the standard bearer. It's so strange

I thought she would be a Skywalker, but I believe it was wonderfully explained in the movie especially in the way it was structured as part of Kylo attempt at seducing Rey. 'You are no one, but not for me'. Luke still saved everyone 3 times now, returned Vader to the light, destroyed the empire, and now literally "passed on what he has learned". One Skywalker is gone, but as the movie so beautifully shows at the end with Rey and the scene with the children, thousands new Lukes are ready to take his place. But I understand that for many people, this is a bit too much depth. In time, when your rage has passed and you'll put some thinking into it, you'll understand. I trust you.

It took more than ONE person to down an Empire. And putting faith in just one person is quite the idolization this movie is saying. A nobody is just as important as a legend.

Putting only a bloodline in a box and not straying is quite stagnant storytelling.
