I'm a big fan of NHL hockey. I live in VA so I'm a Washington Capitals fan. Pre season is coming up, i was wondering who watches. This year will be great. A new expansion team, Las Vegas Golden Knights. Then you have Winter Olympics, however NHL players will not be playing. I actually like that.

I am not lucky enough to have an NHL team in town, so I am open to suggestions on who to root for. I'm new to hockey and will have to learn lol.

Washington State. I am guessing Vancouver is as local as I will get. Perhaps I am a Canucks fan now.

Yeah Canuks are good. Pretty close by too. Personally id go with the San Jose Sharks. They are always playoff contenders, they'll make it one year. Whichever team you can get into, and able to watch on tv. Sometimes a team just clicks.

So how did you get into watching the Avalanche. My brother lives out there in the Springs. They have some promise, they are a young team. Varlomov is an awesome golie, used to play for Washington.

Well my younger brother was a massive Peter Forsberg fan had a authentic Ice hocky top & everything. so he kind of introduced me to the sport the NHL game on. The SNES was a great introduction to the sport so I have kind of stuck with the same team since.

Also the fans for this sport are pretty relaxed as I got to watch a Philly Pitsburg match in a hotel bat in Philly & had a great time.

Lifelong Flyers fan here as it’s nice to know there are a few hockey fans in The Cantina. The one thing I love about being a hockey fan is there are no casual fans, as you either love the sport or not.

.... you must have been in a "safe" place, hahaha. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia is a huge rivalry!! From everything I've witnessed, the teams and fans generally despise one another.

That why I was surprised. I was thinking oh boy this could be a interesting way to introduce my friends to the joys of the NHL. The guys I was with are big football fans & were rather impressive with just how tough/crazy hockey players are. But that was in 2009 & I think it was one of the playoff games. Thankfully Philly won which probably helped with the atmosphere.

As a lifelong Flyers fan, the Flyers/Pens rivalry is one of the best I feel in all 4 Major Sports. It wasn't a great rivalry until Lemieux was drafted and then we had some great playoff series in the 80's/90's as we would whistle everytime Jagr touched the puck (when he had that mullet long hair). Ironically, he ended up playing for us in 2011-12 and turned out to a be fan favorite. The rivalry got even more heated once Crosby was drafted as we utterly disdain him here in Philly, and he has said on many occasions that he disdains the Flyers fans too.

There are 2 types of Flyers fans here. Ones that are idiots who take it way too seriously, get drunk, and may get too boorish with visiting team fans as they are a minority. Then there are fans like me who hate teams like the Penguins, but still respect them because it's such a great rivalry. Right now they have won 5 Cups compared to our 2 Cups so they have the bragging rights and had 2 of the best players in the past 25 years (Crosby and Lemeiux). In many ways, I think Lemieux was as great as Gretzky in his prime but injuries and Cancer really hurt his overall numbers. I was at the game when we gave him the standing ovation in Philly when he came back from Cancer, and I know he always appreciated it.
