Can someone explain what "Canon" and "Legend" mean? Does the "EU" or "Extended Universe" fit into this somehow?

Is this sort of the same as the "MCU" or "Marvel Cinematic Universe" which means the Marvel movie(s) vs the comic books?

Rieekan and LadyMusashi , thank you so much. I have read both links.....makes more sense now. I hear/read people saying "that's not canon.." and I just wanted to understand what part of the SW Universe that refers to.

Now my next question, what is your favorite book(s) or comic(s) related to SW? It's been so long since I have read anything related to SW, I would like to expand my horizons....

We have a subforum dedicated to Legends material, and you can find a thread there covering that very question -

As for the canon books and comics, lots of conversation in this forum here -

    Happy hunting!

Pretty much what everyone is saying: movies/tv shows are ALL canon and anything published since 2014 that is 1st edition is canon

It really depends what you like. I want to ease people in, so in terms of comics, you might like Lando - it's only 5 issues and it is probably the single comic that enhances the movie story. You may find yourself emotional. ;)

Darth Vader is good (25 issues) and the spin-off Doctor Aphra which explores a lot of lore. Kanan is also great.

In terms of novels, if you want action, you might want to read Lords of the Sith, there is both Vader and Palpatine badassery on display. If you like dense, deep character exploration, read Tarkin (my favorite new canon book, but I am weird, lol), if you want the tour through OT with compelling love story - Lost Stars, politics and Leia 'the Hutt slayer' - Bloodline, big picture, state of the galaxy post-RotJ and setting for the First Order - Aftermath trilogy. There is something for everyone, just ask. ;)
