Can someone explain this scene?

We see Leia and Chewie hug earlier and we can assume they will again. Should we pause the story, and the movie, to watch every interaction the characters might have?

The Leia and Rey interaction was the one that the story needed us to see at that moment. Seeing Chewie and Leia, at that moment, does not further our story. It's especially crucial since we're near the end and we still have important business to get to. Leia has accepted Rey into the family, so to speak.

Why did the two of them hug? I can think of a few reasons. Han told her about "the girl." Leia knows who she is. Leia knows she was among the last to see Han alive. Leia senses something through the Force about Rey. Any or all of these are options, or perhaps something totally different. I'm sorry this bugs people so much... it really is a small thing within the larger picture.

It's Han's wife and Leia knew it affected Rey because she was fond of him. Both needed a hug. Seems pretty simple to me.

Well, stop and think: did we see any of the snow troopers? There a scene in the TFA visual dictionary that show them searching the Falcon! That wasn't in the movie. There a shot of Rey with Finn's jacket on, siting inside a snowspeeder. That wasn't in the movie! WE GOT ROBBED!!!

I liked the gangs and the Rathtars. It gives us a look at Han's state as a smuggler. Pretty important if you ask me. Plus, it added a threat that wasn't the FO and gave Han an excuse to dump his giant freighter.

Snow troopers searching the Falcon sounds boring to me. I still want the 2:40 version of this movie though!

Not boring to me, especially if it leads to a firefight and a chase scene on snowspeeders!!:D

Deleted scenes aren't a new thing. I'm sure we'll be seeing some of those things on the DVDs/Blu-rays.

Even though I enjoyed the movie even more second time 'round, this still bothered me. It affects the character continuity of Leia and Chewie. It just does not feel right. Far from ruins the movie or anything, just frustrating.

Leia was happy to see her niece was still alive and never died when the new academy was sacked
