Im having difficulty here in the Cantina trying to find common ground on TLJ, LFL, the direction of the SW saga, etc.

Things that I thought were extremely well done, such as Luke's story in TLJ, are absolutely abhorred by others. I love Rey's character and love the idea of "common" people (I know I shouldn't say "nobodies") being "chosen" by the Force.....this notion is violently and virulently argued against by some. Admiral Ackbar's death and the way it was handled made many people angry - for me, honestly, how much actual screentime did Ackbar get in the OT and why is he all of a sudden so beloved? People call Rey a "Mary Sue" yet seem to forget this concept is not new in the SW story (young Anakin or Luke). Thread after thread analyzing box office results seemingly to the penny, or hour of the day, comparing to other SW movies and other movies with the ultimate goal of some to pound their chest righteously saying "See!! I am right, this movie is TANKING and the whole franchise is doomed".

I don't go into SW movies looking at the color of people's skin or their gender, yet apparently many are angry at LFL and KK in particular, feeling that they are pushing an agenda of diversity.

With threads like "THREAD FOR THOSE THAT HATED THE MOVIE"....."Thread for those that LOVED the movie"......Bottom line.....Is there any common ground to start a discussion?

I am happy with this era of SW movies made by Disney.

I am enjoying this saga much more than the prequels.

TLJ is a masterpiece in my point of view.

    Solo trailer was great.

Sorry for those that disliked what LFL, KK and Disney are doing so far. I am happy that I'm not of the "haters".

I have no problem with those who disliked the movie(s) (though I feel bad for them). Film is subjective and that is all right. I have problem with those who take their opinion as a fact and will use every fact out there and skew it every way possible to fit their narrative (I am not pretending that those who loved the film(s) are completely innocent of this, though perhaps not as aggressive). There is something really warped in trying to destroy other people's joy and I don't like that. I think the common ground is possible. It's called acceptance. You like the movie(s)? Fine. You disliked the movie(s)? Fine. We all like Star Wars, right? Fine.

I unabashedly love The Last Jedi and I liked both TFA and Rogue One a lot. After seeing the teaser for Solo, I have high hopes we'll get excellent adventure romp. Is it possible that I won't like it? Sure, it's possible. But, I am not going to try to take away the enjoyment of those who will. I'll tell you how I feel and why, but I'm not going to bash you over the head with it. I think trying to change people's opinion with bashing is a futile endeavor. But, changing people's mind is possible with well presented arguments - and we saw some examples here on the boards. So, civility, arguments and acceptance, that's my recipe. ;)

    Common ground.
I say at the same time people say stop hating, they should act stop hating.
Speaking for myself, if Disney would stop with any more Journey to "X". And publish more adult novels (reading age 20 and above, not NC-17 ) chronologically. I don't want to have to buy every comic and game to understand movie like TLJ.
And if Disney would publish more what they label as "Legend", that would be my dream come true.

Own up when people say "Your video was disappointing for me. Here's why." Don't say anything like "Your expectations were too high."
    +++

When we have TLJ director who publically says: "Your Snoke theory sucks" Proudly.
And we have Pablo Hidalgo who promised people EU was canon and brought out Leland Chee who made a holocron so that they would make sure everything jived together for said Canon.....
I would totally understand if Hidalgo and Chee were "reassigned." But no.
Then KK said "The important thing is to protect Star Wars, these characters." On video.
How am I supposed to trust a word they say?

I will tell you about my experiences at JCF.

    ---
The below experience was at the JCF.

We had a bunch of people who says: stop hating Disney! Disney Star Wars is okay. Stop the hating Star Wars...... At the exact same time, they will say: OMG Did u no Legend is not Canon anymoar? Only old geezers are interested in those moldy tomes. Get with the times man!

And then they started swearing with vulgar words against me.
And they started labelling me politically extremely left and then extremely right at the same time!
And then they say all Bring Back Legends people are "extremely politically right"! Never mind they said I was "secretly extreme (edit): left"....

So I said leave me alone.... To no avail. My "reward" was exile.
    ----
    Anyway enough with the rant....

***sits patiently with his friends ^ -
OP, @Messi and @LadyMusashi with which he agrees on most every point = really likes and fully supports where LFL and Ms. Kennedy are steering the Stories we've been told and the ones yet to be, without bashing others opinions while tellin' what I like and Why I do,

    - waiting for others to come meet on Common Ground.

If being a Mary Sue was a scale from 1 to 10, then Anakin and Luke are 3. Rey is an 11.

However, I do like the character and I like the fact here parents were "nobodies." I was actually getting pretty sick of the Star Wars routine of "this person is really this other person's father/sister/brother/son/etc"

Thanks for your opinion. I disagree with it. Guess no common ground there. Personally I feel a 9 yr old boy jumping into a Naboo starfighter and randomly punching buttons, then ending up destroying the enemy's command ship 3.5 minutes later, rates higher than a 3/10 on your "Mary Sue" scale.

    But that's just me.

You've touched on another topic....canon vs legend.

Here is my take: I don't care about canon vs legend. Oh no, the horror!!!!!

I will read or watch what I want, and enjoy what I want.

    Canon or Legend.

Good point, but the character does come back down to Earth in E2 and E3. He loses his first duel against Dooku, then loses another duel to Obi-Wan. And there is more justification for young Anakin being a good pilot than there is for Rey. There is no explanation whatsoever for how she knows how to be a pilot, let alone such a good one (yes I know this matter was addressed in books, but if you have to rely on books for an explanation of something in the movie, that is a shortcoming of the movie).

There is justification in the movie for a 9 yr old boy "being a good pilot"? Can you please explain this to me? I'm not seeing it. I am following your rule about it has be in the movie(s) to be justification.

No matter how you slice it, Anakin in the Naboo starfighter was the GREATEST MARY SUE scene ever in all of SW, in my opinion.

I’ve always liked to think there is some common ground... we all like Star Wars.

Not necessarily all of it - but enjoying every aspect of it in all its formats and eras must be pretty damned rare, but we do all like something about this whole SW universe, its themes, characters and/or mythos and that enjoyment was enough to bring us here to share that love with others. Gotta be a good place to start!

I am just happy we are getting more SW.

But I would be even happier if Lucas would be still onboard as a creative consultant, edit: what he probably already is, so this part of my post didnt make a lot of sense.
    :)

For real we have it really good these days. My dad told me only a few weeks ago how hard it was to wait 3 years for the sequel to Star Wars.
The wait for Jedi was even harder after Empire cause everybody wanted to know if Vader didnt lie to Luke

People were actually criticizing Lucas for this legendary plot twist, thats how bizarre SW Fans were and still are. lmao.

A bit of a contradiction there, my friend, "There is no explanation whatsoever for how she knows how to be a pilot ... (yes I know this matter was addressed in books ...)

    ??

No one has to 'rely' on the canon Stories, that's a choice. Person by person.
If ya wanna seek it out (coz it is there), Great !
    If not ? Great !
This I'll agree to disagree with on account of not a shortcoming of the film.

I like threads like these, where we can enjoy things all together.

On Rey: I really like her. I understand if people have issues with her having her force abilities, but one day it just stopped bothering me.
Crait was also a really cool world to me.
