So I know we all accommodate the Sith using their red lightsabers but have always wondered, could a Jedi use a red one as well? I have yet to recall a Jedi using one before, they seem to stick with only green and blue. With the exception of Mace Windu, of course, who has a purple blade

The colour of the lightsaber depends on the Kyber crystal and the bond it creates with its owner. In most cases this bond results in green and blue sabers, but sometimes it can give you a purple saber, or white one, or yellow one, etc. However, to get the red saber, the crystal needs to be corrupted with the Dark Side, which Jedi don't use, thus the colour of Jedi's blade cannot be red (unless he gets his saber from a Dark Side user, but even then the most likely scenario is for him/her to purify the Kyber crystals from the Dark Side.)

Samuel L. Jackson voiced an opinion and Lucas decided to go with it. He got his purple light Saber. Its sad that others didn't do the same, we would have got a much better film, any who I'm not here to bash the prequels, I love them, I always thought, in the heat of battle could a Jedi disarm a Sith and use his own red saber against him? But create one, no.

In the 1974 rough draft of SW, the Jedi protagonist Annikin Starkiller used a red lightsaber. I believe at that time, all lightsabers were meant to be one color -- as can be seen with the white sabers in the original trailers for SW 1977. The idea of different saber colors came from by Ralph McQuarrie.... who in a 1975 production painting gave Darth Vader a blue blade.

Yes a Jedi can use it. The color doesn't have a special meaning or or exludes groups from their use. The color is a result of the contruction of the lightsaber, after that, it is how it is. No the Lightsaber doesn't change color, or is a mood ring.. until being rebuild.

There was an idea floating around a few years ago that Luke was to use Vaders Lightsaber in the sequel trilogy to remind him of the darkside and what he went through...I thought that was a cool idea.

Obi-wan used asajj ventress's lightsaber in a duel in the clone wars.

In the non canon 'clone wars' cartoon (what the prequel movies should have been like) Anakin used her lightsaber when his was lost.

Why not use a red blade? Red shouldn't always be regarded as negative, just as black shouldn't always be regarded as negative.

In canon, only Sith can create red lightsabers since the Dark Side is corrupting the Kyber Crystal, turning it red. That being said, if a Jedi were to take that lightsaber, they would be able to use it

In the old Republic game I play as my jedi who has both light and dark impulses and fights with two lightsabers. One has a red blade and the other blue...
