Its so weird that my opinion had change in just 1 day and a half.

From a big deception (I was devasted yesterday) to an excellent conclusion.

    This is common.

I hated Revenge of the Sith and then loved it on 2nd viewing. It comes down to expectations and sometimes watching too many trailer/teasers/BTS/spoilers. You get an impression in your mind of what is going to happen and when the film is different to that, you come away disappointed.

I left all my preconceptions at the door. Well, in fact I didn't hold out much hope. Same with The Last Jedi. And I loved both viewings.
With The Rise of Skywalker, because it is so fast paced, a 2nd viewing is key. When it finished last night it took a while to gather my thoughts.
I knew I loved it, but there was soo much to take in! I did have tickets for this afternoon but was too tired! Next viewing will be on Sunday with my son.
    I can't wait.

Just returned from my 2nd viewing with my son he absolutely loved it

my opinion sadly hasn’t changed it’s all a bit underwhelming there are moments that raised a smile 2nd time around and ones that fell flatter 2nd time around

one things for sure it’s a beautiful film to look at but in certain points a bit overly dark imo not from the fear point but from the filming point black on blacker backgrounds beginning end bits just kinda blurred some detail out

story is still a bit linear in its delivery with few surprises that you couldn’t have guessed

and potentially interesting characters become nothing more than screen filler

Some of the pointless filler that could have been scrapped and left out in favour of expanding on the big bad of the story and how it’s become to be slowed story to a halt only to fast forward to bits that should have been cool or helped the story better

major gripe the few bits a liked I had seen for free in trailers and tv spots and the ending just wasn’t as epic or as wowing as a saga ending SHOULD have been given the resources JJ had to work on and with

so my childhoods gone full circle I guess I know how potter fans feel

Spoilt in the early years cheated and underwhelmed in later years

    this is my personal take
And I whole heartedly hope you guys get something more than I did

after 2 views I’m all star warsed out

My experience with 2D version was much better than my 3D. 3D is always darker and you loose a lot of details.

What main plot point was thrown out? Let's not make excuses for plot. TLJ ends clean. All the main cast is returning. Pretty much any story can be told after The Last Jedi. Leia is the complication. If I had to pick a film to write it would be 9 over 8 since 8 is basically required to start where 7 ends.
How did every one see this film multiple times before release day?

Agree. We have a lapse of one year between TLJ and TROS, what makes easier for the plot.

Well, I liked the movie just fine. The plot wasn’t that hard to follow and there didn’t seem to be as much nostalgia as I expected. Basically, the only real problem is the pacing. It desperately needs a 3-4 hour Extended Cut. If they make one, it would be the best movie in the trilogy.

Agree. It feels too rushed. Even more than TFA. I think the best pacing in this trilogy is in TLJ.

A masterpiece that not only salvages the ST, but it adds so much more depth to the saga. I went in expecting a tacked on nonsense, I came out completely blown away!

So... 3 more years of divisiveness... OY VEY... my head my aching head. Well, anywho I'm seeing it tonight at 1am. I had to cancel my 6pm tickets today due to work... can't complain the overtime is good. I really wanted to see it with a bunch of saber swinging Star Wars FANS.

I just saw it, sorta. I wanna hold off on my full opinion until I go to my proper screening tonight but my first impressions aren't very good. When I logged on here I saw someone say this could've been a 3 hour movie and I so totally agree with that. In fact, and I can't believe I'm saying this because I was so against the idea when it was being discussed around the internet about a year and a half ago, this could have and maybe should have been 2 parts. It feels like 5 hours worth of movie crammed into 2 and a half hours. That might be exactly what some people are looking for, but not me. I know it's my least favorite of the sequel trilogy but that's as far as I'm willing to go right now. I've seen a few people say it gets better with the second viewing, I'll find that out in about 8 hours.

hmm. I'm seeing a lot of reactions like this. "I need a second viewing" Reminds me of the reaction to The Phantom Menace.

As much as I have changed my opinion between first and second viewing from "disaster / horribly bad" to a more positive note, I still have a hard time picturing how some people consider this movie a "masterpiece". It has too many intellectual flaws and the plot is over the top and all over the place, like some of these Transformers or Marvel movies that I don't even watch. For me TLJ is clearly the best movie in this trilogy, while TFA may be the most entertaining and the one I will most likely pick for future friday coach potato nights, after this run of theatre screenings.

Edit: And I changed my vote again, back to "horrible" - since the question was "How will you rate TROS in your first watch?" - not second watch.
