Initial reaction after 1 viewing? I was so overwhelmed with all the emotions that after it all ended I got a massive headache - I just felt so tired when the anxiety related to anticipation finally released... :) But today is round two and now I will start processing all of it properly!

Overall I'm happy with basically everything that happened in this movie when it comes to major story points. There were huge moments that made me super excited and happy - some scenes I had literally wished for. I liked the plot - the way it was driven and the adventure feel. The pacing was insane, which had both positive and negative effect. There's definitely stuff I don't like, but these are some spoiler details + stuff related to TRoS as a movie. No major gripes with the story and characters. For now at least. :p

Overall, my ST ranking is very clear: TLJ > TRoS > TFA. TLJ definitely remains my favourite, as I expected, and while I think TFA is perhaps a better crafted movie, TRoS is far more engaging for me personally because of how much new and fun stuff it throws at us.

TROS has the benefit of TFA and especially TLJ before it to develop the characters. TROS could then just basically go all in on an action packed finally.

Rogue One is not an "objectively bad movie." Come on now. I wouldn't say ROTS is "objectively bad," either. Don't just superimpose your personal, subjective opinions, on what is a subjective thing to begin with, upon everyone else.

I liked it overall. Individual aspects I disliked
(Reylo fan service felt forced, pacing, certain plot points that I'm sure were shaved that could've added to the story)
did not detract from my overall enjoyment of the film. I do think the ending could've been more well thought out it felt...off. Visually it worked but not sure it struck the right emotional chord and much like the entire trilogy the characters motivations for what we were looking at was difficult to determine. This trilogy may be an untrilogy. I like all the films individually but as a group or cohesive part of a whole its been a mess.

Well, the wife and I went to see it today. I don't know what movie The reviewers were shown, but I really couldn't find much wrong with this film. It's not perfect, but I've never seen a movie that's perfect.

I'm interested to see what other people thought. I didn't think it was too fast paced, I didn't think it was to fan servicy. In fact I was kind of looking forward to that part of it!

I was quite pleasantly blown away.

It was good, if a tad forgettable. I didn't find the fanservice to be overwhelming. I'll do a full breakdown in a spoiler board sometime.

    Soooo my spoiler free reaction...

I liked the movie, a lot. Already saw it twice. There are some things I didn’t like too, but overall I left satisfied. That Daisy Ridley is just adorable...her smile with dimples! It was definitely very dark. I like Poe but his humor overdid it at times. 3PO crushes it! Adam Driver sure can act...wow. I liked Luke much better this time around. In the spoiler thread I’ll be more specific about my likes/dislikes.

Keep an open mind and more importantly, have FUN watching it! ❤️

Just saw it... need to see again. I thought it was excellent. With more polish it could've been really special...a masterpiece even. As is, it's the best of the ST by far for me, which was more than I expected.

It seems the breakneck pace is a common complaint, and I kind of understand that, and it's a little worrying and disheartening because if even fans on a Star Wars forum are saying that I can imagine it might impact repeat viewings from more casual moviegoers, and that would be a shame, I think. The pace felt much less of an issue to me the second time than it did the first (which was not a huge problem anyway, but I recognise what people complaining about it mean, and yeah if you'd offered me another half an hour I wouldn't have said no lol, but that's because I still loved it). Anyway, 'always leave 'em wanting more!' :D

I voted 'Excellent' after one viewing and I don't think I'd change that to 'Masterpiece' quite yet, but it got nearer. And I've only seen it twice so far. I think JJ, Chris Terrio et al have made a film that is going to reward with repeat viewings, perhaps more than TFA did (as much as I love TFA too and think they did the right thing with it at the time and context that was made in). If that means it loses a little repeat business on this initial theatrical run, so be it. Star Wars is forever, this was important to a lot of people and when I show my nephew this film in a few years I'm going to be so thankful it's a rewarding story with real depth and emotional pay-off (IMHO) rather than something less satisfying that might have earned Disney another billion they don't really need all that desperately.

I also absolutely think this film improves TFA and TLJ. And the saga as a whole. When I read people saying 'but what does the ST actually add or change to where we were at the end of ROTJ?' I am kind of surprised, and without launching into a full-on essay here in a non-spoiler thread... it adds lots. Lots and lots. And it reinforces the repeated, poetic structure that is personally something I find endlessly fascinating about Star Wars.

I was sat in a lovely cinema today with a huge screen and amazing sound watching Star Wars Episode IX. If I could have told myself 10 years ago that I'd be watching this in 2019, it would have blown my mind. I am savouring this, and loving it. This is free beer. This is a gift. This is something we never had much of a right to expect, or to feel entitled to ever seeing. If you can't squeeze even the visceral joy of seeing, for example, 2019-level CGI and effects work in the Star Wars universe... I don't know what to tell you. How quickly some of us forget the days when widescreen VHS tapes of the OT and the promise of 'maybe a new novel that lives on the edge of sorta-maybe canon if George doesn't disapprove' was all we had!

I think that Ben Solo finally accomplishing what Vader couldn't do ( save the one he loves from death was a brilliant move it completely fullfilled his arc when we first met him )

Also Palpatine imitating Vader's voice in Ben's head was also a brilliant move to explain why Dark Anakin was speaking from the dead.

Rey knowing she's a Palps is very well executed, Daisy Ridley is at her best in this movie

I'll probably watch the film again (third time) this weekend.

To many things to check that were pointed out here in the forum.

This third viewing probably will decide if I liked it or not.

I still not sure if it was a good idea about the presence of Palpatine in TROS.

Without getting into spoilers, TRoS is without question the best film in the Star Wars franchise, period, and does not actually do any of the things that the negative "critics" claim that it does insofar as The Last Jedi is concerned.

JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio made a movie that does exactly what it said it was going to do - end this trilogy and the Skywalker Saga as a whole - and does it almost flawlessly (there are a few little things that made me scratch my head, but they're ultimately inconsequential).

Just got back from seeing it with my sons and we all really enjoyed it. My youngest son said right away, it felt really rushed but once you got used to it things were okay. We spent the entire car ride home discussing various spoilerific plot points and all three of us came to the same general consensus:

Not the best one, but certainly not the worst one either. The boys put it on par with ROTJ in terms of general feeling. I think I agree. There are imperfections, but hey nothing is perfect. I can't count how many movies I've seen that others claim to be perfect or must see movies only to come away from it feeling like I wasted time. I didn't feel that with TROS. I genuinely enjoyed it. Yes there are some aspects you just have to go with. Once you let go and just go along for the ride, it's all good.

    My first viewing last night...
Dear Lord! Still processing the amount of great moments. That was an insane non-stop adventure with a lot of incredible moments! I couldn't breath during all movie.
My vote goes for an Excellent movie. In this first view, a great 9/10.

For me, to end this saga and this trilogy, it couldn't have been better. We have to honest, to tie all the saga and the ST has to be a tremendous hard work. And JJ and Chris, in my humble opinion, have made it in a very satisfactory way.

I will go for spoiler threads to speak more about the movie, its greatest points and the others that could have worked to.

From my 42 year old freak dude vision, yes, am happy. And yes, I cried.

This is more of a general comment, but because of the decisions that were made in both TLJ and TRoS, I think rewatching the trilogy is going to be a fun experience since you'll go into The Force Awakens knowing that Ben/Kylo is one of the story's co-protagonists even though he spends all of The Force Awakens acting in opposition to his opposite and equal co-protagonist, Rey.

Going to see it tonight...kinda worried actually w/ all this negative press and feedback.

I've been a SW fan off my life. I remember driving to the US with my folks when I was 4 to see "Star Wars" in 1979 (re-release). Had all the toys, comics, lunch box, bed sheets, shirts and spent countless hours playing and dreaming Star Wars in the backyard,

To me its more than movie, SW has been such a huge port of me. it represents my entire childhood and also my imagination and creativity; so am already sad knowing the Skywalker story-line, for me, ends tonight at 10pm... Such a awesome world with great characters and locations to play in...and knowing the movie my just stink leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I've gotten advance tickets before..Avengers, Terminator 6 etc and it was like "going to the movies on X date" but Start Wars is a different animal. Been thinking of this movie everyday waiting impatiently to see it...please Force don't disappoint me!

Here's to you all SW fans!

I’m 47 and the ending really got to me too. I get annoyed with Kevin Smith’s hyperbole of the franchise sometimes, but he was spot on when said a few months ago that JJ nailed the ending.

So thought I would add reactions from family and friends from 2nd viewing last night.

I thought it was much better 2nd viewing.
My oldest son (24) felt the same
My youngest son (18) had to work
My wife enjoyed it just as much
My sister went with to see it for the 1st time and she loved it. Cant understand negative reviews

We also took a friends of ours that consists of mom, dad and 2 teen daughters, 3rd daughter had to work. They all really liked it. Especially 13 year old daughter.

Saved these 2 for the end.
My middle son (22) let his wokeness get in the way. The 2 women kissing at the end bothered him because he thought that Disney wouldnt commit to a LGBTQ relationship and tried to sneak one in. Thinks Poe and Finn should just have been an item. He also felt that Disney did not do well by Kelly Marie Tran. So he likes the story and movie, but outside stuff bothered him. He does lets this sort of thing bother him. I have very so called woke kids (consider myself woke as well), but none like my middle one.

My oldest sons girlfriend went with and although she has seen all the Star Wars films including some with us so some of her views were odd to me. She did like it, but felt she had to know more lore. For instance she didnt understand why Ben faded away. She didnt catch Rey explanation of how the force healing takes away life from someone who uses it. So she didnt understand why Ben died. She did not like the kiss. She was surprised that we believed there was romantic feelings between Rey and Ben throughout ST.
