Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For
    • Run Time: 104 minutes
    • Rated R for strong brutal stylized violence throughout, sexual content, nudity, and brief drug use

Sin City 2 is about Dwight, and his ex lover who plays a damsel in distress. Not is all as it seems in Sin City. A true film noir, a nod to the 40s classic crime dramas with a modern twist. The entire movie is CG and the actors are enhanced. creating a unique look that mirrors the Sin City graphic novel published by Dark Horse. The extras on Blu-ray includes a special feature where you can watch the entire movie at 4x the speed before the environments were added, complete green screen. Visually, the movie is perfect. Some parts are humorously casual. the characters at first don't appear to be connected, yet somehow they eventually will be. The soundtrack is pop jazz and rock. If you remember the old intro to Cowboy Bebop you know what im talking about.

Overall the story of Sin City 2 wasn't as engaging as i hoped it would be. The acting is dark and moody, a bit much at times. Every other scene is narrated by the actor’s inner dialog. If I summed up the movie with one phrase it would be cheesy. Thats the way it was written to give it the feel it has, not necessarily a bad thing.

    Final thoughts: 6/10

I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone under 17 due to the sexual content and blood violence.

You might like this movie if you enjoyed: Sin City 1, Pulp fiction, Reservoir Dogs, L.A. Noire(video game), A Clockwork Orange

Great thread, and not just because you quoted me. ;)

I'm primarily a Netflix user, although I also have Amazon Prime but mostly use that for my kids and for streaming some TV Shows.

For movies I am almost exclusively Blu-Ray. Quality is of high importance for me and I think that watching on a small computer screen or with poor quality can sometimes not give you the accurate picture of the complete film. Obviously I'll make exceptions where blu ray isn't available, but more often than not Blu-Ray is my preferred format unless I see it in the theater first.

I've been on a good run on the home video front recently.

    Monsters 7/10
    Edge of Tomorrow 7/10
    12 Years a Slave 6/10
    Snowpiercer 9/10
    The Wind Rises 8/10

I'll try to get back in and write a full review on a couple after the weekend if I get a bit more time. But I strongly suggest all of them with the possible exception of 12 Years a Slave which I thought had fantastic acting across the board, but it was very strangely paced and edited and i thought it ended up muting the emotional content it was trying to convey.

Its very good. Had a few nitpicks with it, and it has a different feel from most Miyazaki movies, but I still thought it was excellent.

I was actually thinking about starting a Miyazaki/Ghibli thread on this board, but as I have yet to see all the movies I felt I wasn't the best qualified to start the discussion. Spirited Away has been one of my all time favorites since I saw it in its initial release, but for some reason I never sought out the rest of Miyazaki's catalogue (let alone the other Ghibli directors) until about a year ago. Been working my way through Miyazaki ever since. Just Kiki, Lupin III, and Porco Rosso left to see now (I own Kiki but haven't gotten around to watching it yet). After that its onto the Takahata stuff and the others. Haven't been disappointed by a single one yet.

First rule of movie club -- do NOT talk about movie club!

Second rule of movie club -- do NOT talk about movie club!

This is a great idea. I have a very long list of movies that I want to watch still. For now, Sin City 2 is only of interest to me because of Eva Green, otherwise I'm not really interested.

    I'll get back to this thread . . .

Alive Inside: A Story of Music and Memory

    Run Time: 78 minutes

    NR

A documentary about the power of music in memory loss patients mainly dementia. The film begins with what looks like a true miracle. A woman is asked to recall her childhood, due to her disease she is unable...until the music starts. At that point she suddenly became more alive. She started telling detailed stories of her childhood and even her mothers influences over what she was permitted to listen to.

Music can improve the quality of life for memory loss patients. This holistic approach to treating patients as people first will be a very important part of future care in nursing homes and hospitals around the world.Treating people with disabilities with all the dignity that they deserve will be the key to success for future care of these types of patients. Achieving this goal however will be difficult and will require doctors to recognize the importance of this new approach to care.

This is a very heartfelt documentary about the difficulty of connecting with those we love and those forgotten through the power of music. As the film progresses it becomes more clear that these programs are few and far between. This cognitive science is complicated, but in this documentary you will begin to understand the complexity of how music affects memory.

    Final thoughts: 9/10

    This is a must watch.

    big hero.jpg
Run Time: 102 minutes Rated: PG

Staring: Scott Adsit, and Ryan Potter
Directed by: Don Hall, Chris williams
    Executive Producer: John Lasseter

From the world of Marvel comes Big Hero 6. Picture iron man meets Megaman...ok got it? Here we go.

Big Hero 6 is currently nominated for a well deserved 2016 Academy Award for best animated feature film, and its easy to see why. It has more heart and soul in 102 minutes than most in its category. In the first act of the film we are introduced to Hiro a robotic protege, and his companion/robot Baymax. It takes place in the fictional futuristic city of San Fransokyo, by the name implied is Tokyo/San Francisco. The perfect backdrop for this tech heavy world that they live inspires Hiro to apply for highly competitive seat at the San Fransokyo institute of technology. When first introduced to the institute they make it clear that technology is cool, and it's developed by everyday people.

The supporting cast of unlikely misfit heroes lack character development, but as mentioned before this is Hiro's story. Baymax is as big as he is lovable, his original design is to be a medical assistant...but with a little tinkering he becomes the hero we se in the trailers. Hiro acquires Baymax when tragedy strikes. The movie revolves around action yet is still character driven. The characters in the film have purpose and in just a short time we learn to care and empathize with them as if they are real people. That quality in an film is what makes one great.

Ill be dropping a few points off a perfect score because it does follow the generic kids movie formula but in a really good way. This is a must see film for kids and parents alike. The acting is great, the soundtrack is by Fall Out Boy, the animation if fantastic, clearly a movie that anyone can enjoy. I cant wait to see the next chapter of this new franchise. BTW if you look closely you can even find a Stan Lee cameo.

    Final thoughts: 8/10

You may enjoy this movie if you liked: Up, Avengers, The Lego Movie, or Wreck it Ralph.

If you had a chance to se this one let me know what your thoughts were. Also if anyone else has any movies they recommend lets talk about it.
