Of course we know Captain Phasma will be in Episode VIII. It's been confirmed. And hopefully we see her doing more than just walking around with a gun across her chest and looking totally badass!

But, the last time we saw her, Finn, Han, Rey, and Chewie were going to throw her into the Trash Compactor. While it wasn't shown, we're assuming they went through with this, because she isn't seen again to hinder the Hero's progress.

At the end, Starkiller Base blows up. General Hux was ordered to run away with his tail between his legs before the explosion. Kylo Ren will almost certainly survive, even though it wasn't shown. This can be explained away with Snoke watching Kylo's every move via The Force, so he sent someone to go scoop him up, a la Anakin on Mustafar.

But, what about Captain Phasma? We know she's in the Trash Compactor. It's doubtful the Heros left her with a form of communication, so she had no way of informing someone to let her out so she could hunt down the Heros and put the hurt on them. So, how do you think Episode VIII will explain she escaped? Or will they even explain it?
    - Will they say the Heros left her with some form of communication (whether the Heros knew about it, or it was a hidden form of communication.)
    - Will Captain Phasma show some connection to The Force, so Snoke also knew she was in trouble? (Theorizing.)
    - Will they just gloss over it, never really giving a good explanation?

    Thoughts?

How does a character come back from being thrown into a trash compactor (not jumping inside one to avoid being shot) and not become a joke for the rest of their cinematic life? They should've had her be the one to duel Finn on Takodana. For the life of me, I have no idea why they didn't do that. It would've set up a rivalry to be continued. Han vs. Fett :: Finn vs. Phasma -- would'a been perfect.

I agree that it would have been awesome to see Finn and Phasma duke it out on Takodana, especially since Finn LOST that fight. As for what happened to Phasma, I assume they will address in Ep. VIII that General Hux came across her when he went looking for Kylo Ren. The whole planet was collapsing, she could have easily escape at that time and stumble upon Hux, she was probably the one who carried Kylo Ren to Hux's ship (I don't think Hux could have carried Ren, although, he was not unconscious if I remember correctly so Ren could have walked there himself too)

That would have added a great side-story, if Phasma was after Finn. And early concept art showed Captain Phasma with a lightsaber (though the art may have been from when the shiny armor was a concept for Kylo's outfit.) Captain Phasma going at Finn would have been much more interesting than Finn versus a random storm trooper that carried a shock-tonfa.

Hopefully she doesn't become a joke character and end up Wilhelm-screaming into the Sarlacc Pit. She has so much potential (like Boba Fett,) that was sadly unused in TFA. Adding a rivalry like that would have spiced up her character and given her a reason to exist in TFA. I do hope she still carries a burning HATE for Finn in Ep 8 because he was all in her face before throwing her into the Compactor.

So, there could still be the rivalry, but it definitely could have been set up better than it was.

I think a rivalry with Hux and Ren is much cooler, and Ohasma would never have a rivalry with afinn since she is his boss and muuuuch higher than afinn, who's just some ranom trooper at he beginning of TFA .

I LOVE the rivalry between Hux and Ren! I can see that it is definitely going to EXPLODE at some point!

But just because Phasma used to be a higher rank than Finn, before his defection, doesn't mean there would never be a rivalry between them. In fact, I think it would make the rivalry even more. Phasma wants to subdue him so he can be reprogrammed into a "good little storm trooper," and Finn wants to rebel and resist his former controlling "boss." So, I think it is perfectly plausible the rivalry could EXPLODE. Maybe not as epically as the rivalry between Hux and Ren (someone is going to lose his head or be force choked to death,) but it could still be a very interesting rivalry that comes down to a showdown of "pupil" versus "old master."

Out of all of the screenings I've seen, I was the only one that laughs when Snoke agrees with Hux and Hux smiles and Kylo just silently gives Hux a death stare .

I think the most rivalry I've seen wth Phasma and Finn is that you can hear the nervousness in her voice when she's talking to Hux about Finn and when Finn gets all excited as if he's losing his virginity when Han asks if there's a trash compactor.

I'm going to revive this thread because this needs to be speculated further:

As we know, Phasma escaped Starkiller before the meltdown. Now Gwendoline Christie DID say that we're going to see much more of Phasma and the moral decisions that she's going to have to make, as well as a bit of her history.

I'm personally interested in seeing where her allegiance will ultimately rest and if it shifts, how that happens. I believe that she's going to be a VERY pivotal character in the upcoming movies, and MAY EVEN defect to the Republic/resistance and be a kick-ass war commander that may (by the end) be the leading general that will bring down the FO...as it's the right thing to do. :)

Perhaps she got out of the chute & rendezvous with Hux just as they were leaving the starkiller base.

Phasma comes back, meaner and more ruthless than ever, and with a hate-on for Finn. She might lead the hunt for him, Poe, and co (which could be kind of cool).

THIS is really interesting. what if she becomes part of Finn's stormtrooper rebellion. how cool would that be?

it might be the only way she can save face as a character after she rolled over like a retriever and dropped the shields.

From what I've heard, and don't quote me on this, Phasma was actually supposed to have had LESS of a role in the film initially. They beefed it up a bit once Brienne of Tarth got cast. Also I've heard that her role expanding in Episode VIII was always part of the plan.

Yes, like Finn and Rey, I believe that Phasma's character is going to greatly expand, and we're going to get a surprise from her ultimately that may be...rebellious, and everyone is going to say; "Did you SEE THAT?!?" we wait and watch... :)

Perhaps her willingly lowering the shields is meant to show that she's less fanatical than the other FO people. Like she possesses a reasonable self-preservation instinct that some of the others lack. Which could come into play later on.

Interesting! I hadn't thought of that angle, but that would be a good twist if she decided to side with the Rebellion, by the end!

Alternately, she could defect to the Rebellion, but secretly still have allegiance to the FO. In the middle of the night, she sneaks in, covertly kills General Organa and making it look like natural causes or an accident. Then as everyone grieves the loss, Phasma manipulates her way up and replaces Leia as the head of the Rebellion, all while seemingly being on the side of the Rebellion. Phasma then secretly manipulates the Rebellion to support the FO's agenda, without the Rebellion's (or audience's?) knowledge.

Then, in Ep IX, eventually, Phasma is either found out, or she springs the trap, and the Rebellion falls by the hands of the FO. This would lead to the epic final battle of Ep IX where the remaining Rebellion forces try to get out of the clutches of the FO. (Of course, the final battle would cut back and forth between the FO/Rebellion battle, and whatever Lightsaber/Force-related fight is going on with Rey, Fin, Snoke, Kylo Ren, etc.)

Assuming Snoke/Kylo are defeated/converted in the end, Captain Phasma would then step up as the leader of the remains of the FO... Possibly setting up for another Trilogy?
Maybe a downtrodden, "sad" ending, rather than the happy, dancing teddy bears and fireworks ending Star Wars fans are used to...
