Is it possible that there was some footage shot with her and Adam Driver? That would be great.

I think there was supposed to be a flashback of Han and Leia dropping Ben off with Luke. Other than that, not sure how there would have been a Leia and Kylo scene when she was on base pretty much the whole time other than Takodana and Kylo's ship left before Leia landed.

    Milage can definitely vary.
I thought she was drastically improved in Last Jedi from Force Awakens.

Well I'm going to assume that with every movie theres footage that doesn't even make it to the deleted scenes... for one reason or another. There's probably a lot more footage then we're aware of.

Excellent question. My thought would be probably not, but I agree it would be great if there was. I think of all the relationships in the new trilogy, this is the one that interests me the most.

I wonder though, so long as the footage involving Carrie is authentic, what else they might be able to do with it. Can they take a conversation she had with Harrison Ford, edit in Force Ghost Luke saying well timed lines and responses? Can they have a Force-Face-Time conversation between Carrie and Ben? I feel like there's a lot of possibilities if they want to be creative.

Anything that they want to do but don't have footage of will be CGI'ed. What they did this week was very wise. They announced they are using stock footage when it will really be much more a mix of footage and computers. I am very glad they made this decision and the integrity of the storyline is being maintained.

    There at least two:
    - Maz giving Leia the lightsaber (teaser 2)
    - Leia's speech to the Republic

It's going to be fascinating to see them pull this off in a solid way. I know a lot of the production of the origional Twin Peaks T.V series was dictated by on set mistakes and crew relations and because of that the series has a loose, non-linear feel to it. This doesn't work so well for Star Wars which has always funcioned strongest following a simple arc of mythic themes.

How messy TLJ was in regards to its sub plots does not bode well for a conclusion for 'The Skywalker Trilogy' I mean, How can they convincingly conclude the saga with only one Skylwaker (Kylo Ren) still standing? and a few ghost moments for Luke and a few clips of Leia?
I trust JJ as much as anyone to pull this off, but I can't see how it can end Happily ever after for the good guys. not all of them.

We know soooo little about Ep.IX… so, just thinking out loud, what could we see in the next instalment?

Now, I’m certain there are more Leia cut material from TFA (and TLJ?) that could wind up in Ep.IX, but these are the deleted scenes we’ve been showed that could be reused. Thoughts?

“Never underestimate a droid”/”Should we contact the Republic?” – “We need to be smarter than that”:

    Convince the senators:

Incidentally, as much as I love Carrie’s performance in TFA, these scenes are even more “on” and “in-the-zone”, I think :D

it will be nice to have Lando back again, but it's a shame they couldn't bring him in at the same time as harrison ford, though. i could see those two playing two cantankerous old geezers flying around in the same old beaten-up spaceship, still getting into scrapes at the age of 70. it could have been a funny double-act.

They said they will use unseen footage. These don't qualify as unseen footage.

Todd Fisher: "[What hints has J. J. Abrams given you as to the footage used for Leia in Star Wars: Episode IX?] There are things we know that I can't say. [..] No, we're not allowed to talk much further than that. I can stay in the area we're in but not into too many specifics. But yeah I was given some information about the things that were there but I can't address it. Suffice it to say that you've seen what was in the - what was the name of the last film? Not the most recent one - but the one [before] The Last Jedi - The Force Awakens. So all of this footage obviously was shot around The Force Awakens so if you look at all the scenes that were in The Force Awakens you can kind of imagine some things that could be made available (grins). I think one of the all time greatest scenes - well one of my favorite things Carrie's ever done - is the last movie and when she says, 'May the Force be with you,' I mean it's (heartstrings hand gestures) like, you know, so those words - you are hanging on them. So there's a lot of those words and it's some of her best acting. I can tell you in my view and I've known her since she didn't know anything about acting, it's remarkable, she's really killing it."

By last movie he clarifies in the video he was talking about TFA, and by recent he means The Last Jedi.

LEIA (TFA): (to Rey) 'May the Force be with you' extended novelizations scene

Maryann Brandon is back as an editor on IX.

Maryann Brandon: (48:30) “I know… It’s a weird thing that [hug between Rey and Leia], isn’t it? It’s like sometimes you’re working on a movie and there’s this thing that’s really powerful and you can’t really explain it. Like the hug between them is really powerful and you’re like, ‘Well, I didn’t see that coming.’ The lack of Chewie at the end was a big discussion and I think you know we did the best we could because that’s what was shot and you’re absolutely 100% right like… your emotion is with Chewie because he’s like this great character who always saves the day. Ummm… You know it’s one of those… I mean we tried to cover it up. But I guess the thing is what we tried to do is have Chewie go with Finn to try and make sure Finn’s OK and Leia went for Rey. The whole idea there I think is that they have a special connection that they don’t even know about. There was an earlier idea at one point that Leia knows who [Rey] is. And we sort of took that out because it didn’t make any sense. Um… because we don’t know who she is! So that’s what I’m talking about – you just kind of keep – things just evolve and you go, ‘that’s not a good idea, that is a good idea.’ ‘Keep that,’ or ‘Lose that’.” (May 15, 2016 – this video has edited out this part since its original posting)

Who knows, maybe the whole saga ends with a shot from Leia holding the Skywalker lightsaber (deleted scene with Maz) and the epic sound of the epic Jedi weaphon.
Epic finale for an epic Jedi Saga, the sound of an Order.

Being terribly unsentimental about this, I'd say the whole process of bringing Leia back to life in episode IX will be terrific bonus material for the DVD... The technology for doing this kind of stuff is just amazing and JJ has a touch of the Ridley Scott magic with the camera.

To be honest, I'm starting to get worried by this with the information of utilizing unreleased footage from TLJ (besides, what unreleased footage? I thought all of Carrie's scenes were included in the final cut. Maybe they mean alternative takes.). I'm fine with it being a cameo but this begins to look like like a full-sized secondary role and there's something about it that irks me. I do not believe that there was no way of writing IX without that much of Leia. I have a bad feeling about this...

Not TLJ, they were planning on using unreleased footage from TFA. And what gave you the impression that there is no unused footage but only alternative takes?
