Supreme Leader Snoke - decoded



Snoke was Palpatine's aid, advisor, director of Imperial intelligence and the Supreme Prophet of the Dark side.

The character used as a template for Supreme Leader Snoke is:

LORD CRONAL(codename Blackhole, also known as Shadowspawn)
Prophet of the Dark Side, Director of Imperial Intelligence.


PLEASE NOTE : Snoke is not Cronal literally . Biography of Cronal has been used as a template, idea for newly created character and wider plot that is in the foundation of Sequel trilogy. Discovery of this obscure character from old EU material served me to decode the plot behind Snoke . In this post you will find reconstruction of general picture about the events before Sequel trilogy, and eventually who Supreme Leader Snoke is .
There is alternate path - a character Kadann probabaly evolved from this one idea, in this case just as story has been suplemented with notion that Kadann supposed to be trained by the Jedi ( and could be "the last Jedi" that survived order 66 as well) but was converted to the Dark side to became dark Side Prophet, eventually same thing as original Cronal, though original Kadann is a dwarf.


Cronal is a character from Expanded Universe.

Pablo Hidalgo was according to references involved in the biography of Cronal, it is his brainchild.



Cronal was a former Emperor's Hand, Dark Side Prophet and head of Imperial Intelligence.

He was involved in formation of the New Empire, much more disciplined and darker.

He also commissioned the construction of a weapon capable of wiping out entire Star systems.

He used politics and connections in the New Republic senate to make New Republic look the other way while he rally and rebuild what was left of the former Empire military.

Cronal was also a member of the Sorcerers of Rhand(Ren?!). A group who believed in a power greater than the Force which they called the Dark and that by following the Will or the Way of the Dark, they were granted special powers. He left this order to become a Prophet of the Dark Side .

Cronal became Palpatine’s chief dark side adept exploring the “Science of Darkness” in the tradition of Darth Plagueis.

A master of Darksight, Cronal prided himself on his view of the universe, transcending the dualistic classification of the Force into light and dark sides.

Here is citation for another "Dark Side prophet "variant" Kadann.


His organisations and field of operations were also linked to Perann Nebula in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy after Empire retreat. And the First Order came from Unknown regions of the galaxy.

Cronal was interested and studied Skywalkers bloodline:"...for his visions and gnostic algorithms had exposed to him the secret of the Skywalker genealogy....".

Snoke's damaged fragile body

There is important concept of body of the Dark side wielder being degraded by intensive practicing of the Dark Side, which happened to Cronal. So his apperance is not the result of him been injured, but been eaten by the Dark side, in exchange for his powers.



He found ancient knowledge and studied Darth Plaguieis also. He is not as strong as Luke by his birth ,he acquired the knowledge in his fanatic quest for ultimate power on polithical, military and spiritual field.
He also once received some techings from the Sith (Palpatine, probably Vader to).

His body could be damaged in some old fight to of course, so his overal appearance could be result of both "dwelling into the dark", and old injuries.

SUMMARY

We revealed figure that evolved from the inteligent ambitious secret service officer and Dark side adept , to an absolute ruler of efficient militaristic regime ,, who obtained powers on the Dark side which transformed his body.

1.Born as a Force sensitive never trained formally to the level of a Jedi or a Sith.
2.Studied Dark side , Dark sorcery ,joined probably some Dark religion cult.
3.Because of his qualities he was employed by Palpatine as his chief of Intelligence and his hand, and received techings from Palatine (probabaly also from Vader).
4.He researched even further into the Dark side in the unknown regions of the galaxy, in order to obtain even more power, at the price of even more decay of his body.

There are many elements from Cronal character that fitt in what we know about Snoke and characters/events mentioned in the new Canon novels and seen in the TFA film:

-His body is damaged --Dark side toll...Physically, the dark side ate away at him...
-He knows in details what happened during the rise and fall of the Empire (he was inside Empire's ranks !).
-He has Dark side knowledge obtained by dwelling into sorcery of Dark.
Dark side Prophet.
-He has taken command of the remnants of Empire, a military regime, in only plausible way, as he was already an high ranking officer.
-Lea knows him as it seems.
-He creates New empire (Cronal), Snoke creates First Order.
-He finds way to construct a weapon that will destroy entire star systems.
-Cronal is always on the move ( later uses mobile medical chamber that supports his fragile damaged body), Snoke uses mobile command.
-Cronal was interested and studied Skywalkers bloodline:"...for his visions and gnostic algorithms had exposed to him the secret of the Skywalker genealogy....".
-A master of Darksight, Cronal prided himself on his view of the universe, transcending the dualistic classification of the Force into light and dark sides…
-He engaged in special subversion operations using his net of spies and connections in the New republic. in order to weaken New Rupublic, prevent its actions against the First Order and even to discredit Pricess Lea as a natural leader. Those are actions of someone cunning and subversive on a level once Palpatine had and someone who was in the same time once chief of intelligence of the Empire.
-It is safe to say that Snoke is not a particulary phisically strong .He dwells deep into the Dark Side using it for obtaining 1.wisdom (defined by Kylo Ren words) to see in advance and predict events, to be ahead of its enemy, and 2. for remote sensing (intelligence) defined by skills Kylo has, and its natural to conclude Kylo received that teachings or guidance from Snoke .
Deep immersion with the Dark side to obtain wisdom , predicting of events in advance, and intelligence gathering.
In my eyes like someone is making a painting of a former Dark side prophet and intelligence agent in one person.

Idea for the First Order came from fiction story about Nazis after WW II escaping into remote territories where they created secret base, planing to return.....
And their leader, naturally, has the same background .

Did we reconstructed Snoke by this? - he has analogy of a high ranking Nazi official, evil thing that was part of a regime that crumbled (analogy with commander of the Gestapo or SS ), who was also practicing dark sorcery like its former master ( Palpatine), and he and his followers escaped and were planing revenge, searching in the meantime all possible ways to obtain more power on the dark Side for control over the galaxy.

 

It was EU character in which Pablo Hodalgo invested .
