    Bah ..Rax.

Anyway we certainly dont have slightest clue what was(IS!!!) there in the Underground of Jakku. And Gallius Rex was appointed there for years by Palpatine himself.

observation: Snoke was loosely based on Abraham Lincoln and/or his bigger than life image. Lincoln was a Satanist was he not? Snoke probably did the same thing and served and worshipped the devil aka. Sidious. George lucas said it himself when he described how anakin makes a deal with sidious etc.

    does this theory make sense?

After new leak about Snoke's red guard, which mirrors Palpatine's imperial guard, suddenly I found myself rethinking again about this old theory.

We know from Rogue one that Palpatine and Vader had red guards.

Could there be Third person in the Empire that had red guards?

And again, it is in essence a brainchild of Pablo Hidalgo.

    A. I think we are not going to get Snoke's background in the ST. Might this be material for a TFA prequel animated series in a few years?(or maybe we'll just get his background in books)
    B. When we do finally get Snoke's background, I think he is going to end up being a new character based on bits and pieces of various EU characters, such Plagueis and Cronal, among others.

It is than, unfortunately rip off (wanabe) from Original Trilogy where there was mysterious Emperor, however same approach is absolutely unsuitable in the setting now.
This is now a continuation trilogy which requires explanation and that explanation is Snoke. Without Snoke there will be no First Order, and Kylo Ren will not turn to the Dark Side destroying Lukes Jedi order. So Snoke enables new trilogy, and if he is not explained he is than artificial main villain made to justiffy trilogy, which will be perceived as very very cheap.

Original trilogy was built on millenia long history of conflict between Jedi and a Sith, which resuted in culminantion.
This new trilogy however is continuation, millenia long history is finished by the demise of Sith, and just 30 years after that millenia long history, a new dangerous dark side enemy shows up, after, I repeat millenia long continuation of Sith and Jedi conflict. He can not be left unexplained in the context of that millenia long history. His hiding, source of power, and his role in the story of balance of the Force brought in ep VI must be put on a lever and justiffied.
Mysterious unexplained snoke in ST will be absolutely unacceptable, it will decrease value of entire Star Wars franchise. ST will be at the end preceived as a cheap OT ripoff and commercial extravaganza that exploited and compromised previous acheivements.

It is possible that Snoke will be left unspoken, but the price will be hughe.

@McDiarmid - You're preaching to the choir. I agree with you 100%. But if we're not getting his background in ep 8, I'll be surprised if we get it in ep. 9.

    t

I will be unfortunate if Snoke's background will not be explained (at least mentioned or hinted) until the end of Trilogy, as this will inevitably decrease the value of the Trilogy.

We can presume Snoke will be defeated and finally killed in ep IX.

Now, one thing is people going out of cinema in ep VII and VIII asking themselves who is Snoke, but it is absolutely different thing people leaving theater after ep IX asking whatahel was this killed Snoke anyway, it will look really cheap, even if Snoke explained later in novel or in other form.

In this case its a massive derivate (rip off) of Emperor approach from Original trilogy, but not justtiffied, people know much more about SW universe than in the 1983, and expect the background.

So my worry is about the quality of trilogy.

As in smoke was a hidden figure during the republic and empire? Wouldn't that make him more important than even the emperor? I don't think so because the retcon would have to be too major

This days I read back first Aftermath novel, and there in the first pages it is mentioned that Darth Vader have captured some survived Jedi after the order 66, and he tortured them in his "castle" on Mustafar.

In theory, however unlikely, Snoke could be even a former Jedi that was turned on the Dark Side trough torture.

Motivated by fan reconstruction of "normal Snoke" I found possible proof of this OP theory.

This is Snoke.., not injured(or damaged by the Dark side) .

"That all came out of conversations about what would have happened if the Nazis all went to Argentina but then started working together again? What could be born of that? Could The First Order exist as a group that actually admired The Empire? Could the work of The Empire be seen as unfulfilled? And could Vader be a martyr? Could there be a need to see through what didn't get done?"
