It didn't quite work for me but the thing that struck me more than anything else about Tarkin was his height, he just seemed way too tall.

I liked the Tarkin & Leia scenes, even though I could tell they were CG. I work in effects, so I asked a few people who don't, to see if it was just me and they did not notice anything off with them.

BUT... I did think the same thing about Tarkin. He seemed to tower over Krennic more than Vader did.

The actress they got to play Leia looks a lot like her without cgi.

    I know, right?

If you mean the Rebels that had died on Scarif, well she was not aware on how bad things were on the surface and probable not involved with the Rogue One squad.

Also, what she had ahead of her was way bigger than the immediate reality. Yeah, the Rebel Alliance had faced many losses but the important thing was that they got the plans and that she had her mission to go get that old Jedi friend of her father (did you guys realise Bail also mentioned Obi-Wan served with him to Mon Mothma? I thought immediately of the relief mission where Bail sends that hologram to Master Kenobi).

Tarkin worked much more convincingly for me than Leia did, which is odd because the Grand Moff had a lot more screen time than the princess. Both were still in the uncanny valley, but despite the briefness of the glimpse we got at Leia it seemed to me like she was born and raised in that valley, whereas Tarkin was merely passing through. Perhaps Tarkin worked better simply because Peter Cushing was such an odd looking fella to begin with.

The tech will only get better for future standalone films. Michael Douglas in ant-man was great. Whenever Tarkin was on screen, I had a smile from ear to ear. My Art Of Rogue One is on its way. It arrives tomorrow, I can't wait to read how they rendered Tarkin and Leia. I imagine they put in weeks and numerous hours to get it right.

Generally, I liked them. Tarkin had a lot of screen time so he didn't work in every scene and was a bit creepy, but I have a feeling that's because we all know who Cushing was and we know he died, I heard many reactions when people didn't even notice. The voice was spot-on though.

I thought Leia was almost perfect, I couldn't asses the voice based on a line or two.

For me I just erase in my mind that today is 2016.The movie take me back to 1977 or 1978.My mind was in that year. The CGI do the job.Going to watch the movie again today...:).

Not a complaint but CGI Tarkin almost had more screen time in Rogue One...seemed like it anyway. :)

Loved them both but I agree. She almost seemed too perfect. Like a wax figure. Still great story additions.

Dont think so she joked once at a tribute but I believe it was true he (George Lucas)owns her and Mark Hamills likenesses. She says everytime I look in the mirror I owe him a couple of bucks...lol

Yes, I liked them. I think the Leia one was a little fast, but it capped off the movie in such a great way. The thing I wanna talk about, is how Tarkin was a supporting character in Rogue One... I expected a cameo or something.... that was great ! Tarkin.... Star Destroyers.... Vader..... c'mon..... go with it and enjoy.

The 1st scene of Tarkin and how his face was shown in reflection on the bridge of the star destroyer was good for sure, the best effect but then as it was sort of more used it was obvious it was a CGI.

However I am not going to complain about that.

Leia they could've done a more subtle appearance like a quick or angled show of her face with her voice doing more of the effect and it'd have worked better for me but again - why complain....

It is interesting you mention the differences between 2D and 3D when it comes to these CGI renderings. Granted I didn't watch the whole movie in 3D, as I hopped theaters after my 2D viewing ended to re-watch the last 30 minutes in 3D. I actually thought that what I saw in that last 30 minutes in 3D was much better than the 2D. I actually thought the depth perception enhanced the effect.... but I will have to see the whole movie in 3D before I can say that with certainty...

In the premise of this thread, this is kind of historical isn't it ? How great a role Peter Cushing has as Tarkin is in Rogue One. I think this is a first.

i think like many here and around me at the theater last night, we saw Tarkin with his back to us and when he started to turn i was like....no.. he isn't... no.. omg!!

I thought it was awesome. I think i spotted one or 2 frames that weren't quite as 'tight' as the rest, but overall the cgi was great.

    now for the Leia scene..
gotta say, i hoped to see her.. but i almost fell off my chair when she turned to reveal her face and spoke.

my first thought was that @PrincessLeiaCB3 would have had tears running down her face at this point.. i was close to that myself to be honest.

that's a great point that needs mentioning in this thread. i saw it in 3D IMAX and was totally blown away by Tarkin and Leia, but with all the different formats it will be interesting to see how they compare.

I believe they worked just fine, seeing Tarkin's piercing eyes & Leia's graceful face worked. CF would be proud of it.
