Here's some wild speculation on the film. Kylo ren is one of the bigger enigmas. He's a zealot and obsessed with Vader. Anakin lost Padme but was informed by the Emperor of a way to cheat death, referencing Plagueis.

What if Kylo Ren were Luke's pupil?

Assuming the Kylo and sibling rumors are true, what if Kylo and his sister were training under Luke until Kylo's sibling died in an accident? Luke, ashamed, steps down from being a master. If they are Leia's kids, it would also explain the distance between Luke and Leia. They're estranged -- not reclusive.

What if Kylo Ren is on a two-fold quest: bring the entire galaxy iin order to prevent war and also to unlock a way to bring people back? He's trying to redeem himself through the dark side.

What if he thinks he can fight his way to peace and revive the ones he lost? There's some moral ambiguity. His heart is in the right place but his ends justify his means.

In a way, this follows up Lucas' critique of the military-industrial complex in US aggression into Vietnam and (later) Iraq. Of course, Star Wars wasn't allegory either.

It's wild speculation but it gives a stronger emotional arc and why Driver has been reluctant to call his character "evil."

    Fascinating.
I do think there is more to kylo than a mustache twirling villain.

It will be interesting to learn in episodes 8 and 9 why he has taken this path and if it is too late for him to be redeemed.

However, i think for TFA, they will keep his motivations pretty simple, on the surface - to hunt down and kill luke.
What did luke do to piss him off? We likely won't find out yet.
But, it is bound to be dark, if it sent luke packing.

I like the idea that there was a sibling. Who isn't with us any more.
Very in line with what we are seeing.
Reason enough to divide a family.

So...the dark side is the good side...in his perspective...and he's using it as a means to an end...(?)

Nice theory but I don't think they're going down that route.

I think Kylo is going to be more like the modern day religious fanatic. I would speculate that the event that set him on the dark path could be something like what you have described. However, what turns him in my opinion will be down to blaming Luke and his parents for something as well as Snoke deceiving him into believing it is his destiny (to destroy last Jedi and Resistance).

From this he will worship the Dark Side and Vader like a fundamentalist.

I just don't think they will go down the cheating death route. It will be more 'grounded' than that.

    That is a nice theory.
How will it affect Han's and Leia's relationship?

It's almost assuredly hogwash but losing a child (or two) could have a profound impact on a relationship: Gen. Leia is submerged in her work and Han's brash, rakish attitude might've inspired Kylo's cockiness. After they lose their kids, it might be too much and the differences between Han and Leia only exacerbated.

In fact, for fans of Leia's comic, her quiet grieving as a public figure might rub Han the wrong way -- in a way that undermines the dated, sexist charming chauvinist / ice queen dynamic. Here, she's not icy but working with a reality as a general and leader. Han might not understand, even in his old age. What more did she owe the Alliance? Didn't they give enough of their friends and lives to it? Can't they give up fighting and leave?

Hogwash? No, not by a long shot. Your initial instincts are correct- people who lose a child or have a very sick child are far more likely to separate than those who don't. That's a fact.

I agree that Han might not understand. Leia has always been dedicated to the cause. Han has always been dedicated to the people who are dedicated to the cause. He trusts only those who have demonstrated they can be trusted. An entire Resistance is never going to make the grade for him. Personal relationships will always be the key for Han, a former smuggler whose life used to depend on those same trusted personal relationships.

Knowing frellig Disney, they probably shohorned in Elsa (FROM FROZEN)'s characteristics into Leia . I wouldn't be shocked if there's something during the credits where Leia sings, "Let it in" .

But, getting back to Kylo (and Anakin before him) this concept of cheating death seems to go against belief in the Force. Obi-wan wasn't afraid of death in the least. Nor was Yoda. They understood that it was just a transition to a different existence. I don't know why Anakin didn't understand that- probably because he was still in the selfish stage of love where he had to have Padme with him instead of thinking about what might be best for her.

So this whole "cheating death" objective seems to be an incomplete understanding of the Force.

They weren't afraid of DETH because they would join the force as the next level up in their lives, and they could still communicate with the physical force while being ones with the "living force..."Anakin felt too much emotion (I can more than relate) and he didn't have a clear head because he didn't want to lose the one thing that meant the most to him, that care about him the most, his rock/love/anchor. I can totally relate to his feeling and if do the same thing and not be rational, just like he wasn't. He was the first human Jedi in thousands of years. Also, Padme had no knowledge of the force to become one with the living force after her physical existence ended.

My apologies. I meant my wild speculation likely isn't the film.

My fiancée and I were discussing my vasectomy and our five month old. She worried what we'd do if anything happened to our kid and whether we have more. My philosophy was if we can't take care of one child well enough, why should be deserve two?

It was cold of me but it framed one particular worldview. I grew up the eldest of eight. It was a huge struggle helping raise my siblings, especially in the midst of abuse. So, it skewed my opinion on having larger families.

Going back to Han and Leia: Han might blame Leia for feeling more duty to the Alliance while Leia feels it's the greater good. They still care for each other but neither of them are getting younger and Han wants a sunset to ride off -- the same one he hoped for 35 years ago -- but he's not anxious to go alone into that long night.

Han is more emotion-driven and Leia is more literal in her sense to what she believes in, and is willing to give it all up for the greater good, similar to Poe Dameron.

    Leia to Han:

Yes, I think that's right. Even in ANH Vader said she'd never give up the location of the base. Her reputation must have been quite solid even then.

Also, love that incredibles scene. I think it's one of my favorites from the entire movie. I could so hear Han saying "Greater good? Greater good? I am your husband. I am the greatest good you are ever gonna get."

Lol. I don't think Han has lost his touch of arrogance even now. Who's scruffy-lookng?
