Chewie was supposed to lose an arm?

    There was a scene in that non-descript, generic-looking rectangular box in space where there were Indonesian pirates and a prometheus squid thing attacking them, and Chewie got injured. That's pretty normal in space right? But that fact of Chewie getting injured was made too much of a big deal when it does nothing for the story other than to get Rey to co-pilot.

    If you remember months ago there was a leaked photo of a concept art depicting Chewie with a bionic arm. This coupled with that scene makes me think that they scrapped that idea of bionic Chewie due to fan reaction.

    Chewie needed to get injured so Ray could co-pilot the falcon with Han, and form a bond. It seems a small injury was enough for the plot. Arm didn't need to go. I don't think its any more complicated than that.

    A one arm wookie that's level Chewie has been reduced to, no way that blast injury was enough.

    Where's the scene where Chewie pulls someone's arm off at Maz's castle? So much cut! I want the 3 hour directors cut.

    That scene was supposed to lead to Chewie losing his arm. It was probably abandoned due to negative fan reaction.

    there would be no time for him to have one fitted and then be back in business, it was about a day or two between the Injury and them going on the raid on Starkiller base.

    Really not sure they paid attention to the reaction of leaked concept art. I think it was just that, concept art and they didn't go that way.

    Yep, just a concept art, nothing more, they surely not filmed it and deleted it, that would mean that they shot TWO different version of each scenes with Chewie, and that's not happening in a blockbuster in 2015, too much expensive, and not enough time to do it. It was not filmed.

    I think the more appropriate scene would have been for some stormtroopers to loose their arms after Chewie witnesses Han's death.

    Even if they did film it, I'm sure at some point some one brought up that way too many characters have lost right limbs in this galaxy already, let the wookiee keep his arms.

    No, the scene was in Maz's castle where Rey was being hassled and Chewie interviewed. It was supposed to show he was growing fond of her.
