I read that before I knew it was her and didn't catch that! I liked Aftermath ok. Looking forward to the second part this summer.

Yes! The interlude in Chandrila! I hope so! I mean, from Rebels I have always wondered that maybe the FS ones might not make it to avoid continuity issues with ROTJ and Yoda telling Luke "the last of the Jedi you will be." But I mean, as much as I'd love to see Kanan and Ezra around after ROTJ, I guess there is more chance to have Hera, Zeb and Sabine around, and it makes sense that she was the Artist!

Agree, I mean maybe Wedge was recruited around Season 1 on another rebel cell, and then he had that accident on his leg so he had to work in the freighters for a while before piloting his X-wing in Yavin.

Though I admit that I've been biased towards this outcome since I read those final pages of Aftermath, I think that the Fleet Admiral being Thrawn is gaining credibility. Filoni's recent hint of bringing Thrawn into Rebels (along with the MSW rumors about this months ago) points to his canonization; assuming he'll be at least teased in the two premiere episodes and/or S3 trailer screening at Celebration Europe (July 15-17), this debut will arrive suspiciously close to Life Debt's publication date.

The way I see it, Rebels might provide more of a 'backstory' to Thrawn, allowing the heroes to "defeat" him and send him out of the galactic spotlight until he reappears post-Endor. I feel like handling the character in this way would make a lot of sense.

Sounds reasonable. I just finished reading this book and I was wondering the same. The way he is depicted sounds too much like Thrawn, and it would be great is he is canonised.

Just finished Aftermath. Not bad, not my favorite new Canon book, but still pretty good and enjoyable. Will we be seeing more of the featured crew or is this a one off story for them? I'm really enjoying these stories that tie different eras together or at least acknowledge the history of their own galaxy. Also pretty cool how one of the interludes ties into the next Aftermath story (intentional I gather). Would be cool if the "Fleet Admiral" does turn out to be Thrawn. I'm more a fan of the later post-RotJ EU/legends material, but also enjoyed TTT.

Yes but not sure how much. Here is a synopsis for Life Debt.

Set between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, the never-before-told story that began with Star Wars: Aftermath continues in this thrilling novel, the second book of Chuck Wendig’s New York Times bestselling trilogy.

It is a dark time for the Empire. . . .

The Emperor is dead, and the remnants of his former Empire are in retreat. As the New Republic fights to restore a lasting peace to the galaxy, some dare to imagine new beginnings and new destinies. For Han Solo, that means settling his last outstanding debt, by helping Chewbacca liberate the Wookiee’s homeworld of Kashyyyk.

Meanwhile, Norra Wexley and her band of Imperial hunters pursue Grand Admiral Rae Sloane and the Empire’s remaining leadership across the galaxy. Even as more and more officers are brought to justice, Sloane continues to elude the New Republic, and Norra fears Sloane may be searching for a means to save the crumbling Empire from oblivion. But the hunt for Sloane is cut short when Norra receives an urgent request from Princess Leia Organa. The attempt to liberate Kashyyyk has carried Han Solo, Chewbacca, and a band of smugglers into an ambush—resulting in Chewie’s capture and Han’s disappearance.

Breaking away from their official mission and racing toward the Millennium Falcon’s last known location, Norra and her crew prepare for any challenge that stands between them and their missing comrades. But they can’t anticipate the true depth of the danger that awaits them—or the ruthlessness of the enemy drawing them into his crosshairs.

Thank you. That answers that question. I won't mind reading how their story continues. Earlier I was reluctant to read Aftermath, but I'm glad that I did and have just pre-ordered Life Debt.

They had me at Han Solo!

I just finished it today too and though I enjoyed more Lost Stars and Bloodline, this was good anyway. One of the things I am enjoying is the perspective we are getting from these books to get familiar and new surroundings with new characters, using known characters in the background. We hear from Leia, Han, Ackbar, Mon Mothma, Wedge, but they are not the focus of the story. Of course they keep their importance in the Star Wars universe, but these stories are focused on other characters, and I am really enjoying how some of them are connected. For example, Sloane, who I met in "A New Dawn" interacting with Kanan and Hera and then back again with Kanan at the "Kanan The Last Padawan" comic too; we see her again in the fall of the Galactic Empire. I enjoyed these new band of heroes: Norra, Temmin, Sinjir, Jas and Mr. Bones too. I liked the interludes - especially that one with the Corellian scoundrel looking scruffier lol - though I found them a little bit challenging if you stopped reading and resumed afterwards at least myself I had to go back to the previous Chapter to see where we were in the main story.

I have to reread this before Life Debt is released, because Wendig might decide to continue some more interesting interludes and I have no idea how much I remember.

This is the worse Star Wars book I have ever read. Literally it is impossible to follow the characters and the narrative. This is bad, bad 4 out of 10.

Sinjir's speech to Nora about what he did as a loyalty officer and how the Empire was always his enemy remain one of the reasons why he is my favorite character from this book. I wonder how he will develop in the future.

That's what I have enjoyed from these new books, the perspective for the new characters. Being part of the Empire does not mean you are a cold-blooded villain, as we see with Cienna or Sinjir. Even Tarkin appears endearing in "Lost Stars" when he allows young Cienna and Thane to go inside his Lambda shuttle.

i love that Sinjir was so good at his job. he's hands-down the best thing to come out of Aftermath, i think.

super excited to see his return with Jas in Life Debt. Norra, not so much (i don't hate her, she just needs to stop dying) ~ hahaha.

I just started Life Debt and although the sentence structure is the same, it seems to be an easier read than Aftermath. Personally, Aftermath was a huge let down. It was pushed on us as the story leading up to TFA. While it did throw a few hints, although fragmented, dispersed hints, it was a far cry short from what we were led to believe it was. Maybe it's because I live with an English major, but I'm astonished with the grammar and sentence structure (or lack thereof). Thank God for Lost Stars. Much better book IMO.

Is Wending really that bad? I wanted to read Aftermath (and Life Debt too) but there are so many negative reviews... I enjoyed most of the new canon books very much.

I don't think so. After suffering through some of the amateurs of the old EU that would barely qualify as passable fan fic, I think Wendig brings a style and energy that we haven't had before. The first book was overall OK, although suffered badly from the muzzle, since the book couldn't give away much about TFA. The new book really opens up the universe, with Han Solo being a main character for the entire second half. Wendig also nails the character in ways other authors usually miss.
This new one is REALLY good. Just my humble opinion.

i agree with @Chairman Kaga ; i think i "get" why people complain about Wendig's books, but frankly, they are pretty darn entertaining and Life Debt was actually better than just good. i think a lot of the worst of the negative reviews are coming from very close-minded perspectives or people who were disappointed that the books have a lot of extraneous (i.e. not immediately tied into the film canon) subject matter. and some people have a hard time with his style, but that's completely subjective.
