Lots of cool stuff here. Some hmmm type stuff as well. I do wonder if some of these are red herrings - but I would be really impressed if JJ's team had that much sneakiness! ;-)

Loving that it IS Tatooine (I didn't really doubt it but I was worried it would be some "other" desert planet which would just be silly given how important Tat is to the Star Wars universe)

Loving the look of the up-armored Stormtroopers too. They look like true soldiers.

Some of these deserve their own threads to discuss at length and coherently!

 

This can be added to the leaked concept art thread - MERGE

I wouldn't read too much into the codenames the leaks have. Some were listed as Foodles and AVCO and Dark Knight. I think they're listed that way to throw people off. Binary Sunset is referencing a desert planet that could be Pasher also.

 

Guys - if all discussion of the concept art is going to be in one thread - it's going to become a major disaster of a thread in short order. Perhaps each photo - or group - should have it's own thread.

 

I don't think there needs to be 31 different threads for these photos.

 

Okay - but you're at over 100 replies and coming up on 7K views with 15 separate conversations all in one thread after a couple hours... Just saying it's about to get REAL messy...

Okay party people, here are my impressions of each of the concept photo groups.

AT-AT & Binary Sunset
Looks very cool but I don't think it's on Tatooine. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't remember there being much grass/weeds (dead at that) on Tatooine so it could be Prashur or whatever the new desert planet from Heir to the Jedi will be called. Plus, we don't see two suns in any of the images, the leaker may have just labeled it incorrectly because they assumed the desert planet was Tatooine.

Daisy Ridley & Boyega Saber
First image; are those both droids down there on the bottom right?
Second image; the red-saber weilding character is bald and looks like a breather mask, kind of like Darth Malgus of The Old Republic games, comics, and books.



Grave Robber & Vader
I don't belive this character to be the same as the character with the lightsaber above. The face appears different. As Viral said the lips do look a bit feminine so I immediately thought it to be Leia. thus explaining why her daughter (Ridley's character) is alone on a desert planet living in an AT-AT and while Luke would be in exile, feeling remorse for his sister falling to the dark side. Although, it could be Adam Driver's character as well. Same story for Luke and Ridley, shes in hiding because her brother will kill her and Luke is in exile because he feels remorse for his nephew falling to the dark side. The second image looks like it's on an Imperial ship so either one of those characters could have easily gotten access to an Imperial ship to have their throne room in.

Grave Robber & Daisy Ridley
First image; The red on the left fading into the blue on the right is very cool showing the figure on the left is evil while the one on the right is good. It appears to be in some sort of underground temple.
Second image; It looks like Ridley is in some sort of trance/under a spell or possibly shocked. If the cyborg drunkard is her friend in the beginning of the film and at the end she finds out he is the Dark Lord, this could be her reaction.

Greenham Hangar Set & Massassi Temple
To me this still looks like Dantooine in Knights of the Old Republic.

The second image; if it is the Temple on Yavin IV it doesn't look like it did in A New Hope so it may be the interior of the Greenham hangar.


Millennium Falcon & Skellig Michael Set
The first image reminds me of the area during Knights of the Old Republic where you face Bastilla on top of the Temple of the Ancients on the Unknown World, can't find a good image of it.
The castle in the second image is very Hogwarts-ish so maybe this is where Luke is training new Jedi? I don't know.

Pod Bike & Pod Falcon and Pod Junker & Land Speeder
Looks to be on the desert planet again. The bike reminds me of the Cloud Car from Bespin in Empire Strikes Back.
The Pod Falcon reminds me of the Ebon Hawn Revan's ship in, once again, Knights of the Old Republic

No comment on the Pod Junker/Land Speeder pic but they do look neat.

Tie Fighters
The new TIE design looks very cool. The troopers in the hangar pic appear to have the same helmets from the OT but different body armor, can't tell much as the shot is from behind them.

Abu Dharib Set & Outrider
Funny they mention the Outrider in this image. If you look on the bottom right on the first pic, it does look like Dash Rendar's Outrider from Shadows of the Empire.

Look at the pod/cockpit of the ship.
The creature in the second pic looks like the creature from the first set of leaked set images.


Chewbacca Cybernetic & Knight Trooper
Metal arm Chewie looks silly. Knight Trooper?

Try white Imperial Knight. Has to be Boyega's character. Cool costume.

Daisy Ridley
I really like this character design. Reminds me a lot of McQuarrie's original Luke Skywalker design.

The second pic looks like it's in a restaurant, probably a cantina.

Montross (Unused Character 1976)
Very cool character designs but if it is named correctly it could be this character:

Millennium Falcon Set Plans
Seems Pirate's Cove is indeed a real set. Possibly used by Han in his pre-Rebel days and now the Alliance is using it as a hangar or hidden base.
These diagrams are really cool though.


Wampa Saber
Can't really make out much of the text on the image but I like the way this saber hilt looks.
It looks like the saber on the Knight Trooper's belt.

Vader Helm
Appears this charred Vader helmet will be an actual prop. Very cool seeing the effects of fire on it.

Well they said when they made the announcement about the EU reboot that they will mine it for future uses. Many have already appeared in Rebels so appearances in Ep 7 doesn't really surpise me.

The one where the Character in the hood is looking at Vader's helmet, the close up.

 

Now that weve proven that it does not prove one way or the other who the "dark figure" is i will go on record saying this art is EPIC!

 

The Pirate's Cove is Yavin Base. They've recreated it - look at the drawing that includes the old set.

 

Yes, but it's quite understandable really. The EU as it existed was not canon. However they said they would be picking and borrowing from it. Now certain things that were EU are being canonized. There's absolutely no reason to scrap things that are NOT contradictory to the story. ONLY things that are contradictory will be scrapped. IE the offspring -- Jaicen, Jaina, Anakin, Ben etc... or the rumor that a moon killed Chewbacca.

 

It just seems silly to call it a Pirate's Cove though, why not call it Massassi Temple if it's the same one from ANH?

I hate to disagree with the boss but I don't see anything feminine about it. Hence NOT Leia or any female IMO.

The impression I got when I viewed the pics was that the temple was the same as ANH. However, the Rebs have abandoned old bases and that this was perhaps taken over by pirates, smugglers etc...

 

Because that's what it is now. It's no longer a Rebel base. Somebody's taken it over with the assumption being their pirates.

They do use Massassi Temple on there as well.

Just look at the lip and the chin. This one is clearly meant to be female.

So they left in ANH. Pirates moved in. Pirates left. Rebs are back in Ep 7. Got it. lol
