This doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong. I liked the original 1977 movie, I've never loved it that much. I don't think I would have such a high regard of Lucas' tale without the other five movies.

I wonder if Vader and Tarkin were supposed to be conspiring together against the Emperor. Tarkin calls Vader "friend," and in the unrevised fourth draft, Tarkin says to Vader, "This operation will secure my place on the Emperor’s council. With the right maneuvering, I could be Emperor. The rebel base will soon be destroyed."

The Emperor was likely envisioned as a man with a crown on his head who partied in his palace while people like Mas Amedda, Tarkin and Vader made the decisions.

    The Paintbrush!

IMO, the films are entertaining as stand-alone pieces for those watching them for the first time, with their visuals, costumes, unusual imagination, and character abundance (e.g., the explosion of the Death Star, the romance between Han and the Princess, the Ewoks, etc.).

However, IMO, the films are also great 'pieces' of the larger impressive puzzle which revolves around Anakin wrestling with the dark side.

A New Hope is the most artistic, since it breaks ground into the 'human side' of space exploration, and Revenge of the Sith is the most symbolic, since it delves into all the purgatory associated with the Sith.

Of course? Why don't you just say . . . in my opinion? Which is closer to the truth.

    In your opinion . . . right?

I didn't like "A New Hope" when I first saw it. It took me several years to fully enjoy it.

In the original scripts, the Emperor was a non force-sensitive political puppet of the military and the Grand Moff was conspiring against him.
